Work Text:

“Mirio has been acting weird lately,” Tamaki mentioned to Nejire as they sat in his dorm room studying. This caused Nejire to pause what she was doing, looking over at her friend. He was sitting on the bed, papers scattered in front of him. He had his chin in his hand and seemed to be staring off into space.

“How so?” She responded after a moment, trying to sound curious. In reality, she knew exactly why Mirio was acting weird. Nejire had also noticed his weird behavior, and after pestering him about it he confessed that he really wanted to ask Tamaki out but was super nervous over it. He’d made Nejire promise not to tell the boy in question, so she had to be careful of what she said.

“He’s just been really... distant lately. Normally he’s always making excuses to hang out with us, but now he always has other things to do. He couldn’t even come to our study session today!” Nejire stayed silent as the boy ranted. Clearly this had been bothering the dark-haired boy for a while. “Do you think he’s mad at me?” That made Nejire pause. Honestly, she’d expected Tamaki to jump to a conclusion like that, but she hadn’t expected him to sound so... heartbroken. She set her work aside to sit next to the anxious boy on the bed, wrapping her arms around his huddled form. He quickly accepted the hug, leaning into his friend’s arms as she comfortingly rubbed his shoulder.

“I doubt Togata could ever be truly mad at you. He probably has a reasonable explanation for why he’s acting like this,” she soothed. As much as she wished she could tell him the real reason for Mirio’s behavior, she made a promise. As much as she thinks it would help, she knows that Tamaki wouldn’t believe it unless Mirio said it himself.

They sat there for a few more minutes before Tamaki pulled away. After making sure he’d be alright, Nejire moved back to her original spot. They barely had the chance to return to their work before the door flung open, revealing an out of breath Mirio. They both jumped at the noise before looking at their friend.

“Tamaki, can I talk to you? Alone?” He asked, glancing at Nejire. Tamaki turned towards her, looking apologetic.

“It’s fine, I doubt we’d be able to get back to work anyways.” Nejire grabbed her things and moved to the door. Mirio moved aside to let her through. As she passed him, she gave him a quick thumbs up and mouthed ‘good luck’ before stepping into the hall and heading back to her own room. As she left she heard Mirio move into the room and shut the door. “Those boys are going to be the death of me,” she said to herself.

She wouldn’t want it any other way.

Notes:

This was my first time writing a fic and posting it here, so sorry if it’s not that great. Also sorry for any spelling and/or grammar mistakes, I wrote this on my phone so autocorrect probably acted up somewhere. Regardless, I hope you enjoyed!
