   Summary

The red-haired boy fights him - they all do - but it is no hassle for John to lift him off the ground and haul him down into the dark, safe cellar.

He is already dizzy and disoriented. The sun must have broken the horizon - he feels it in his bones, an instinct that flushes him with fear even as he slams shut the padlock on the door and sinks his fangs into the hot, pale skin of the boy’s neck.

The frantic little pulse quivers under his lips.
