Can You Celebrate?

Summary:

The ceremony itself was almost perfectly planned. So now, Fuyumi could focus on other personal problems, like her family.

aka

The happy traditional Japanese wedding, full of family fluff, that Fuyumi and Hawks deserve.

Notes:

I'm so glad I wrote this! It is pure family feels.

It is actually set after my other fic A Bouquet Full of Love
I've been meaning to write this since I finished the previous fic but lack of motivation came in lol
Then the Huwumi Mini-bang came in and I thought what a better way to get the motivation!

This fic is coupled with the beautiful art by the talented stardust. Thank you so much for accepting my story with open arms!

There are a lot of references because I tried to stick the most that I could with Japanese traditions. I am also not an expert about Japanese weddings, and most info comes from the Internet or my Japanese cultural books so please forgive me if there's anything amiss.

It is also set in a canon divergence AU I started so if you want to learn more, please check the series!

I gave a name to the Hero Commission President because I couldn't just call her President all the time lol
Also gave a name to Natsuo's girlfriend. I think it comes for the Huwumi server? Sorry, I took it without permission.
There's also a reference to TodoMomo but I don't dwell on it.

Without further ado, please enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Fuyumi was reviewing all the documents the wedding agency had given her. It was almost all settled. They only needed the downpayment from her father and by this time next year, she would be a married woman.

Fuyumi giggled. Keigo had been right, the wedding planners indeed knew what they were doing and all her silly worries and nitpicking, like the fact that she absolutely wanted the marriage registration to be of the same date as the ceremony, were answered in less than an hour.

Their main wedding planner, a lovely lady called Morimoto, had laughed, saying that Fuyumi was far from the worst bridezilla she had worked it.

It made Fuyumi feel a little lighter.

She could now focus on other personal problems, like her family.

The fact that her mother had asked to see her in person was alarming enough, Fuyumi had no clue what it was all about.

"It's nothing big, just come by when you have time" she had told her and Fuyumi bought the shinkansen tickets for the following weekend as soon as she had gone off the phone.

"You sure you don't want to fly there?" Keigo had asked.

"No! I know you are faster," "Way faster!" "But you have a shift this weekend. You can join me when you are done."

She also didn't want to fly for an hour. She enjoyed it when it was romantic escapades but not so much when it was just for transportation.

She sighed, getting ready to leave to take the train. Before she forgot, she sent the PDF of the documents to her father and went out of the house.

-379 days before the wedding-

Her mother smiled warmly as she arrived.

"Tadaima!" she said.

"Okaeri!"

As Fuyumi arranged her shoes in the entrance, she saw boots that couldn't be either Shouto or Natsuo. "Do you have a guest?"

Her mother smiled, albeit nervously and said, "please come to the living room."

Suddenly full of dread, Fuyumi entered the living room. "Dad?" Her father nodded but didn't say anything. He had a cup of tea in front of him showing that he had been there for at least a few minutes. "Not that I'm not happy to see you but...?" She couldn't even formulate her question.

"Fuyumi, sit down," her father said as Fuyumi stayed frozen at the door. She sat on the couch opposite side of him.

Her mother arrived with tea and sat next to her.

"You see, your father and I have been talking through letters," her mother started slowly.

"I... assumed so," she replied, turning toward her mom. Before she had left to live with Keigo, they both asked her to play messenger.

"Yes, and when you announced your wedding, I thought it would be better to face your father sooner than later..."

"Ok..." Fuyumi said. "Why didn't you tell me before?"

Rei sighed. "I was scared. If it didn't work, I didn't want to disappoint you."

"Mom..."

"And both our therapists thought it was better if we did it on our terms."

"Both?" Fuyumi couldn't help but repeat, looking at her father.

"I started seeing one after I decided to buy this house," her father replied truthfully.

Fuyumi felt there was so much information to take in but she decided to focus on the most important. She looked at her mother. "And you are okay?"

Rei smiled. "Yes. It's still rocky but it's our third time meeting without the therapists and I'm okay," she glanced at Enji,"we are okay."

Fuyumi nodded, feeling the familiar prickling in her eyes. "Good."

"More than that!" Rei exclaimed. "You decided on a date!"

Fuyumi smiled. She reached for her bag to pull out the papers. "April 29th!"

"During the holiday?"

"Yes! I thought it was the best so I do not have to take holidays with the school and then Keigo-kun and I can go on our honeymoon."

"That's an excellent idea!"

"Yeah. Hotels will be a little pricey but I can manage a deal with the reception hotel."

"So you managed the number of guests?"

"For the reception, yes. It will be some of my coworkers and friends from university and high school, Keigo-kun's sidekicks, Mirko and Edgeshot, some people from the commission of heroes which he is friends with and our family of course."

"I feel a but coming."

"For the Shinzen, Keigo-kun keeps saying that he doesn't need anyone. I said I wanted just the 'family' but..." I thought he'd choose someone to replace like the lady from the commission... It was not Fuyumi to speak about Keigo's situation. She shook her head. "Anyway, just technicalities. It will be alright."

Rei smiled and didn't ask more about it. "Is Keigo-kun coming later?"

"Yes! He should be here for dinner if hero work doesn't stop him."

"Will you be staying too, Enji-san?"

Fuyumi looked at her father pausing. "I wouldn't want to push the boundaries."

"I am okay," her mother replied. "Please stay for dinner."

Fuyumi smiled as her father nodded. She started to help her mother cooking, chatting with her.

Soon, Keigo arrived and started to entertain a grumpy Enji. Whatever her father acted, Fuyumi knew that he loved Keigo, even if he did everything as he hated him.

Maybe soon, this image of her mom and her cooking while the men are in the living room will be added with children running around the house...

It made her smile.

-292 days before the wedding-

Everything considered, Keigo will always be grateful to the commission. After all, they took him when he was at the bottom and raised him higher than he ever thought.

He just didn't think of them as family , at least not in the way Fuyumi thought of it. For her, a family are people you go back to, dine together, be united with. In all honesty, if he never saw the president, he wouldn't mind.

Yet, here he was, knocking at her office's door.

"You can enter," she said and Keigo did so. "Hawks," she acknowledged.

"Yo, Yuuko."

She frowned at the use of her first name. "What do you want... Keigo."

He couldn't help but let a snort out. When was the last time she had used his real name? "As you already know, I am getting married."

"I am well aware. Who do you think is making sure it doesn't leak before the official announcement?"

"I am very grateful for that."

She raised an eyebrow at him as if she didn't trust his words. "And?"

"And my fiancee," he smiled at the word, "she wants my family to be present. Whoever I consider family, she wants them there for the Shinzen."

The president stayed silent for a moment. "You consider me family?"

Keigo shrugged. "I don't know. I don't even fully grasp the concept of family. Not like Fuyumi does. But I want to give her that. I want to give her the family she deserves... even with all the complications."

"You must be aware that the Todorokis... Endeavor and Shouto are not fond of me after the Dabi affair."

Keigo refrained from groaning. Of course, it wasn't all the president's fault but she did have a big part in why none of the Todorokis could visit Dabi in prison. Most of the League of Villains were all banned from visits, considered too dangerous. Keigo understood where they came from, he still wasn't over his encounter with Dabi, the fact that he had almost lost his wings, but he knew the Todoroki family at least wanted some kind of closure.

He also just wanted to see Dabi's face when told he was marrying his sister.

"I know," Keigo finished by answering, "but Fuyumi said she wanted whoever I thought was family. Your strict training, with always making sure I wouldn't get myself in trouble, is probably the most motherly thing I received."

Yuuko's face was unreadable and it unnerved him.

"Thank you," she whispered so softly that if Keigo hadn't been trained to never miss a detail, he probably wouldn't have heard it.

"Don't thank me," he replied because if it wasn't for Fuyumi, he probably wouldn't have thought of even having a family.

"May I ask who is going to be your 'father'?"

"Mera," he replied with a smile as she grimaced. "He was the one sneaking out with me and giving him snacks after all."

She shook her head in disbelief but Keigo didn't miss the way her lips curled up.

That had gone better than he had expected.

-87 days before the wedding-

Fuyumi had expected things to be awkward, she just never anticipated to be that bad.

She had begged her family to be cordial during the dinner. She knew the tension with the commission, she also was not agreeing with how they handle things, especially after hearing some of Keigo's stories, but the president was still the person who had raised Keigo so she wanted an opportunity to bring both sides together.

Also because if the worst happened here, it should be okay for the wedding.

As the date was getting closer, the more stress Fuyumi felt.

Rei was giving pleasantries to Mera as Enji kept his discomfort clear on his face. Natsuo was not doing better as he only softly whispered to Hana, his girlfriend. Shouto was with Momo but they both seem to listen to whatever Keigo was blabbing about to the president.

Yuuko-san , Fuyumi kept repeating in her head.

It was calm, for now

Of course, with so many people in the hero industry, the talk about work was unavoidable.

"Since the League perish and the new generation of heroes so strong, we are planning to reduce the hero budget and focus on things we haven't done in the past."

"Like?" Shouto asked.

"A lot of reports have been showing more needs in social work, so more social workers and psychological help working with heroes."

"I think it's a great idea!" Momo exclaimed. "Just the other day my team had to deal with a case of drug addicts that started to use their quirk because of the hallucinations. It was easy to stop them but not so easy to help."

Yuuko nodded. "I've heard a raise in those cases."

"You help civilians with psychological help but not heroes. Not surprised."

There was silence at the table and Fuyumi refrained to groan. Of course, it would be Natsuo to break the status quo.

"We had been lacking supporting the heroes on the psychological field," Yuuko said, as calm as ever, "but we are also working on having heroes checked more often and having big agencies to have a mental health department."

Natsuo was about to retort when Hana put her hand on his arm, shaking her head no. Bless her .

"I know you are not satisfied with things, and as the commission, we might have turned a blind eye to certain issues," Yuuko continued, "but the new generation is not letting us do that anymore." She looked at Momo and Shouto and it almost looked like she was smiling.

"And yet you don't let us see Touya," Shouto replied.

"Shouto!" Fuyumi hissed.

"What? It would go out at some point."

"But does he wants to see you?" Yuuko said.

Fuyumi paused. "He said that?"

"The one in charge asked if he wanted to see any family member before full imprisonment. He said no."

Fuyumi glanced at Keigo who avoided her eyes. He knew.

The rest of the dinner stayed in this uncomfortable atmosphere. Mera and Keigo continued to do small chats to lighten the atmosphere but the Todorokis were on another set of minds.

As they stood up to leave the restaurant, Yuuko stopped in front of Fuyumi. "Thank you."

"What?"

"I never was a mother to that boy. I was just... I was doing what I thought was best for our society. I don't regret it." She glanced at Keigo who had managed to get a laugh out of Natsuo. "But sometimes I wish I had been better to him."

"No one in here had a perfect childhood," Fuyumi replied, "but we learn to acknowledge the past and make a better future. You could always try with Keigo. It's never too late."

Yuuko gave away a sad smile before going to neutral. "I'll see you at the wedding."

And just like that, the older woman left.

Fuyumi and Keigo said goodbye to the others and Keigo flew them to the temporary apartment they always reserved when coming to Tokyo. Fuyumi knew they could technically go back to her mother's house but they enjoyed having their private space. Tonight especially.

"You knew," Fuyumi said without preamble.

"About?"

"Don't play dumb, Keigo. About Touya."

"I... read the reports. I wasn't supposed to see them but I wanted to know why they were not letting any of you see him."

"And you didn't tell me?"

"I thought... I didn't want to see you make that face."

"What face?"

"The one you are doing right now. The sad, hurt face."

Fuyumi took a long breath in. "We are supposed to tell each other this stuff. Be honest. Like the vows, together in joy and sorrow."

"I know... but I'd have to tell you what I read."

"What did you read?"

Keigo sat on the couch and Fuyumi followed. He took her hand. "He didn't just say no. When asked if he wanted to see any family member before full imprisonment, he said: 'I have no family.'"

Fuyumi stayed silent as the words sunk in. She wasn't sure what hurt the most, the fact that her presumably dead brother turned out to be an atrocious criminal or the fact that he didn't even consider them family.

It was a thing for him to reject their father, but reject all of them...

"There. Here's the face I wanted to avoid," Keigo said, his hands cupping her face. It only made her cry. "'Yumi..."

"I know it's dumb," she said in between sobs, "but for a second, hearing he was alive made me believe the whole family would be back together."

"It's not dumb."

"It is! He almost killed you! He could've..."

"Hey, don't go there. I'm here, I still have my wings, so there's no need to worry about me."

"But..."

"I know how you are. You want your family back. I get it."

"Do you?"

Keigo's eyebrows furrowed.

"I just... I feel like I've been pushing on you my vision of family and you just..."

"I don't just go with the flow," he quickly interrupted. "Before meeting you, it's true that I never thought about having a family. I thought I had lost this right." He pushed a lock of hair out of her face. "But I want to create a family with you. And I'm okay with taking every broken piece that is around us."

She snorted. "I do have a broken family."

He let out a peal of laughter. "It's not a competition, but I do win in the fuck up family division."

Fuyumi snuggled in his chest and he wrapped his arm around her. She could feel that the wings had followed, bringing her in a warm cocoon.

"You are sure that I didn't force you by bringing Yuuko-san into the wedding?"

He stayed a moment silent before saying: "It is weird. But I do own her a lot. It's also my way to show that I'll be alright from now on and she can stop meddling."

Fuyumi hummed in agreement.

"By the way, Natsuo is very excited about being one of the witnesses."

Fuyumi groaned. "He just wants to embarrass me, doesn't he?"

"He indeed said he had a couple of embarrassing stories that he couldn't wait but say at the reception."

Fuyumi groaned once more which made him laugh. "Have you told Mirko-san?"

Keigo stayed silent.

"Keigo!"

"Before you say anything, it wasn't like I didn't want to tell her."

"But?"

"She's back at work and all over the place so it was hard to catch her and have a moment."

"For the past 3 months?"

"I've been busy too!"

Fuyumi rolled her eyes even if he couldn't see it. "Just make sure to ask before the wedding!"

"Yes~"

-86 days before the wedding-

Hawks had been supposed to tell Mirko about being a witness months ago. He hasn't sure why he was delaying it so much. She knew about the wedding, had been there at the beginning when Hawks was clearly smitten and making a fool of himself to get Fuyumi's attention. What was there left to be afraid of?

"And here's my favourite chicken!"

Hawks smiled. "I'm glad I'm your favourite!"

Mirko punched his shoulder with way too much strength. "What brings you here?"

"You know... I'm getting married," he started.

"Yep! I RSVPed!"

"I know."

"So, what about it?"

He fidgeted suddenly understanding what was his problem. He was always 'Hawks' with Mirko. Of course, they often were goofing around and she had seen him being clumsy but it was still 'Hawks'. He was rarely vulnerable around her, rarely 'Keigo', even if he did consider her as his best friend.

"Rumi," he said and she looked at him, not hiding her shock. "Would you be my witness?"

She stayed silent for a moment. "Cool. What do I need to do?"

Keigo was a little flabbergast. "Cool? That's your answer?"

"What do you want me to say? It's neat! I've never been a witness! I'm usually the one who needs one if you know what I mean."

Keigo snorted. "Not the same thing. A wedding witness just has to be there during the whole ceremony and sign papers. Maybe do a speech."

"Even better! I can embarrass you in front of all your guests!"

Keigo groaned. "Please keep it PG, her parents will be there."

"Oh, so no talk about your huge ass crush on Endeavor, got it."

"I never...!"

"Yeah. Right. You got me for a moment. I was sure you were aiming for the big guy." Before Keigo could defend himself, Mirko added: "Oh! Can I wear a kimono?"

"Yeah, sure. I don't think Fuyumi has a dress code in mind."

"Cool! I never wore a kimono! Nice! I'll ask your girl what colours she'd prefer."

"Why not ask me?"

"Please. We all know you have no taste."

"You have no taste!"

They continued to banter before Rumi suddenly turned sombre. "Hey... Keigo."

"What?"

"Are you ever afraid? To lose her?"

"All the time," he responded honestly. "But it would be worst to know I didn't fight for it."

Rumi hummed in approval but didn't say anything.

"Oh my god, Rumi, are you in love?"

It was the first time in his life he saw her ears flap so much. "Shut up! I just have this girl and..."

"No way! You are serious about a relationship!"

"Shut the fuck up! I don't want to hear it from you!"

Though Keigo never heard about who was this mystery girl, he never stopped teasing her. Payback for all the time she had teased him.

-1 day before the wedding-

The Shinto priest confirmed for the last time the sequence of the ceremony.

At last, tomorrow. Fuyumi had her vows memorized, the whole procedure ingrained in her brain to make sure everything would go smoothly.

"Do you have any questions?" The priest asked and Fuyumi shook her head no.

"Then, please do rest for the rest of the day. You will all need energy for tomorrow."

Keigo and her told their thanks to the priest, then to the wedding planner. Her family was already outside, waiting for them. They had decided to follow the traditions of avoiding each other until the start of the Shinzen ceremony.

Her friends from university and high school and her co-worker had decided to do a spa night while Keigo was having a night out with Rumi and Fuyumi’s brothers. To be honest, she was kind of scared of the trouble Rumi and Keigo would find themselves but to know Shouto and Natsuo would be with them reassured her. Somewhat.

"I don't want to leave you!" Keigo moaned, taking her hand.

"We'll see each other tomorrow! And by tomorrow, same time, we'll be a married couple."

He smiled. "I can't wait," he said then kissed her forehead.

"Hum, Fuyumi-san? Hawks-san? I just want to warn you..." Morimoto said, looking uncomfortable.

"What?" Hawks asked.

"There are reporters outside of the shrine."

"For fuck sake!" Keigo swore.

"I think they were curious since so many heroes are in Fukuoka right now..."

Fuyumi could feel the dread. "Are they being violent?"

"No, not for now, but they are asking questions to our staff... Please rest assured that we are all sworn by secrecy. None of them will talk."

"But it must be uncomfortable for them..." Keigo replied with a sigh.

Fuyumi knew Keigo was supposed to an official statement after the ceremony. No one had caught up on the fact they were getting married but it was true that so many big heroes in the same city would raise questions.

"It's okay. I'll talk with people so we stick to the plan," Keigo replied to Morimoto. "If any of your staff feel threaten or unsafe, please contact me or my sidekicks. We will make sure this doesn't go overboard."

As Keigo called some of his sidekicks to make sure the situation stayed under control, Fuyumi couldn't help but check what was being said on social media.

'Hawks, Endeavor, Mirko, Shouto all in the same area! Coincidence or something big is coming up?'

'Hawks, who's been secretive about his private life for so long, was seen with a woman at his arms! Is Fukuoka's favourite heartthrob hero taken?'

'Something big is coming up in Fukuoka! Check Hero News Network to have all the details!'

"Fuyumi," Keigo said and Fuyumi looked at her soon to be husband, guiltily.

"I know I shouldn't look but..."

"No buts! Go with the girls for your spa evening, and let me handle the press."

"But so many eyes are turned to Fukuoka right now! What if a villain..."

"I won't let anyone destroy our big day. Not the press, no villain, tomorrow is just about you making one of the biggest mistakes of your life."

She snorted. "You could never be a mistake."

"Say that again when I wake you up singing the Backstreet Boys."

"Ok, maybe a tiny mistake," she smiled, "but one I will accept for the rest of my life."

"Aren't I lucky?"

If it wasn't for Morimoto looking fondly at them, she would've kissed him.

"Ok, then you deal with my father. He must be pissed that the media are around," Fuyumi said.

Keigo snorted but indeed went to Enji with the news. She tried to ignore the anxiety creeping as Mimi, her high school friend, pulled her towards a taxi to go back to the hotel.

She had to enjoy her night. Her friends had made all the efforts to relax the pack of nerves that she was.

She trusted her husband to be, with the help of her family, to deal with whatever was thrown at them.

-The Wedding Day-

Today was the day.

The day he was marrying the love of his life.

Keigo felt giddy, even with all the alcohol he had consumed last night.

He quickly went on his feet, took a shower, and changed into comfy clothes to go down for breakfast. He knew Fuyumi would have hers in her hotel room so he shouldn't meet her.

He saw his soon to be brothers-in-law.

"Good morning!" He said sitting at their table.

"Good morning," Shouto replied while Natsuo only grunted.

"Remind me next time to never trust Mirko-san for the amount of alcohol to drink," Natsuo said making Keigo laugh.

"Unless it's work-related, you should never trust her, especially when alcohol is involved."

"She reminds me a lot Bakugou," Shouto mentioned, never looking up from his plate of food. "Once they start a competition, they'd prefer to die than to give up."

Keigo nodded. "Indeed, Bakugou does give the same vibe as Mirko."

"Are all heroes insane?" Natsuo asked after finishing his cup of coffee.

Shouto shrugged as Keigo replied: "Yes."

"And I'm letting you marry my sister," Natsuo sighed.

"No, no, your sister is letting me marrying her."

Natsuo rolled his eyes but Shouto did let out a small quirk of his lips.

Once breakfast was done, Keigo went back to his hotel room, knowing the people in charge of dressing him should arrive shorty.

He was so excited. He knew how the day was supposed to go but he couldn't wait to live it. To see Fuyumi in her Shiromoku, to do the steps of the ceremony...

A knock on the door woke him up from his reverie. He opened for the team composed of a makeup artist, a stylist and Morimoto's assistant.

"How are you feeling on your big day, Hawks-san?" The stylist, an older woman wearing a kimono asked.

"Nervous. Happy. Excited. I don't know."

The stylist laughed. "Those are very normal emotions."

As the team did their work, he started to talk away. "How's is Fuyumi, by the way?" he finished by asking the assistant as she went off the phone with Morimoto.

"Stressed. A buddle of worry is what Morimoto-san called her."

Keigo could help the laughter escaping his throat. "Good. If you would've told me she was calm, I'd be more worried."

"You know your wife-to-be well."

He smiled. "As much as she can keep a class of 30 6-years-olds under control, she seems to have no chill when it comes to those kinds of things." He sighed. "I wanna hug her until she feels calmer."

The makeup artist made an "aww".

The stylist laughed. "I wonder if my husband was thinking that on our wedding day. Your wife-to-be is very lucky," she said, her smile never leaving her face.

"I'm the lucky one."

They finished to pretty him up. He had decided to go with a simple look, the Haori black and the Hakama black and white striped. He was staring at his reflection as a new knock on the door was heard.

Rumi entered as soon as the assistant opened. "Yo! Looking good!"

"You too," he said as he looked at her light purple kimono, "suits you."

"Yeah, your wife said so," she added with a smirk.

"Wife-to-be."

"Detail."

"Hawks-san, Mirko-san, it's time to go," the assistant said, opening the door.

It was with a racing heart that he went down to the hotel lobby where Yuuko and Mera were waiting for them. They all went in a taxi.

They arrived in no time at the shrine, the hotel just a few minutes away from it.

The bride's side had yet to arrive and Keigo knew his thining patience was showing with every flapper of his wings.

Soon, a taxi arrived and the first to get off was Enji. The rest of the family followed. Fuyumi, in her Shiromoku, her face softly hidden by the Wataboshi got off last with the help of Shouto and Keigo couldn't get his eyes off her.

Morimoto quickly readjusted everything to make sure it was perfect and the Mikos helped the family get in line for the Sanshin, the beginning of the ceremony when the priest, Mikos , newlyweds and the family proceed to the shrine.

Keigo barely paid attention as his eyes never left Fuyumi's figure until she was to his left. He knew they couldn't talk, even less touch but he was craving to reach for her.

She glanced at him and smiled. He smiled back. "You're beautiful," he whispered.

"Shh," she teased, giving her attention back to the priest. Both Mikos helped them purified by washing their hands at the Chozuya, the  basin with special wooden dippers that usually located at the entrance of shrines and temples)

As they waited for everyone to get purify, Keigo saw by the corner of his eyes one of his sidekicks. He knew some would be around to make sure no one had access to the shrine while the ceremony but to see them made him smile. He really needed to give them good souvenirs from the honeymoon.

Once it was done, the Sanshin began, marking the official start of the ceremony.

Halfway through the walk that Keigo heard soft sniffles. Rei seemed to already be emotional. Keigo glanced at Fuyumi for what seemed like the millionth time and could only see her soft smile.

For what seemed an eternity, they finally arrived. The priest and Mikos told their family members to sit down as Fuyumi and he stood in the middle.

The priest did the Shubatsu to purify them once more in front of the gods. The priest then invited everyone to stand up for the first prayer to start the ceremony.

The priest continued to all his prayers, from the offerings to the gods to the Norito Soujou, the report to the gods in the form of ritual prayers.

Truth to be told, the whole time Keigo's mind was barely listening. He kept glancing at Fuyumi who seemed to watch with interest the priest's movements.

The priest finally finished, asking for them to proceed with the Sankon no gi, the exchange cups to tied their promise. The priest said the words he had told them yesterday, the small one represented their past, gratitude towards their ancestors.

The medium one represented their present, the fact that they were getting married at this moment. And the large one represented their future, the promise of creating a happy family.

It was finally time for the vows. One of the Miko brought the paper to them and they hold it. Fuyumi finally glanced at him with a smile and she looked at the paper. They both read it:

"Respectfully, in front of the gods, we swear. We just did the wedding ceremony. We respectfully promise to give each other sincere feelings, to love each other in time of joy and sorrow, and to create a happy family."

"Todoroki Keigo."

"Todoroki Fuyumi."

Keigo had a bubble of warmth exploding inside of him. They had long discussed which name they could take and it made sense to Keigo to throw away his cursed name and take the one of the woman he loved, the man he always admired, the family he wanted to help bring together.

They gave back the paper to one of the Miko and the Mikos proceeded Kagura Housou, a tribute to the gods to make them happier and even more blessed.

The priest then gave them the Tamagushi for the Tamagushi Hairei. The Tamagushi was believed to connect the hearts of people who worship the gods. Keigo knew he was supposed to make his wish to "walk life together as a couple" as he maneuvered the Tamagushi

He wished that, and to have the strength to protect Fuyumi and their family. Keigo was never a religious person, but he took this opportunity to genuinely wish for a bright future with the person he loved.

They gave back the Tamagushi and the other Miko gave them the rings. Keigo took Fuyumi's hand and looked at her. Her eyes were teary but she had the most beautiful smile.

He slipped the ring to a ring finger and she did the same. At this moment, Keigo really wished they were in the West and the priest would say: "you may kiss the bride" because he was dying to press his lips against hers.

Instead, the priest and Mikos started to give them and the guests cups of sake for the Shinzokusakazuki no gi, the symbol of drinking sake together meant to become one family.

The priest did last offerings to the gods, before inviting everyone to stand up for the final prayer.

Just like that, they were married.

Everyone clapped as they exited the shrine, the cameraman already taking more pictures than he had done inside. Keigo finally took Fuyumi's hand, because no one could stop him at this point as Rei, clutching at her handkerchief still was sniffling quietly and talking to Fuyumi.

He quickly glanced at the rest of the group, their family. Enji, still standing awkward in his tuxedo, had a peaceful smile, eyes more watery than one would imagine. His two brothers-in-law were next to him, supporting relatively similar expressions.

Rumi was calm, even after the way she had said congratulations. Mera had probably smiled more today than Keigo had ever seen him and Yuko, even with a poker face still in place, seemed serene.

Their fuckup family.

They took a couple of group pictures in front of the shrine, with the priest and with the Mikos but all Keigo wanted was to be time alone with his wife .

He smiled.

After a bunch of pictures were taken, the cameraman asked for the newlyweds alone. The rest of the family was supposed to go to the reception first.

"I haven't told you yet how handsome you are," Fuyumi said when they were alone, the cameraman ordering few poses from afar and Morimoto still monitoring the situation.

"And I can't take my eyes off you."

"I noticed," she said, eyes twinkling in happiness.

"Eurgh. Do we have to go to the reception? I want you all to myself."

Fuyumi laughed. "How much it would be tempting to just go back to the hotel to eat and wait for our flight, I do want to see the rest of our friends. Besides, starting the end of the reception and for a whole week, I'll be all yours to enjoy."

"I hope you remember that promise, my dear wife."

"Of course, my dear husband."

The cameraman asked for more poses before Morimoto came and directed them towards a taxi to go to the reception.

Stardust's beautiful art of the ceremony

-The Reception-

It was the second part of the reception. They had come in with the sound "Can You Celebrate?", Fuyumi being obsessed with the song ever since watching the TV show that had the song as the theme song so long ago.

By this point, Fuyumi had changed to her Irouchikake. Keigo didn't want to let her go as soon she had explained the colours of her Irouchikake with: "Red for your wings, gold for your eyes."

They had cut the cake and ate but Morimoto had been right, it was better to enjoy the testing than the food the actual day. At every corner, people stopped them to congratulate them, tell her how beautiful she looked, and whatnot.

Of course, she was happy but part of her just wanted to lay down and cuddle her husband

Everyone had been mildly surprised when she had said she had left the entertainment section of the wedding to Keigo's discretion. Minus for throwing the bouquet, she had always found it fun in American movies, she hadn't known what to choose and Keigo had been happy to look into it.

Mimi, Fuyumi's best friend from high school had grabbed the bouquet. "I was scared for a minute that Mirko or Burnin would tackle me for it," she said.

"You're lucky they didn't, they can get very competitive," Fuyumi replied in a laugh.

"Well, I wanted it, I got it! You'd guess my boyfriend would finally get a clue!"

Fuyumi could only reply with a laugh.

Truly, everything turned into a success; friends and heroes alike were having a good time even if Fuyumi had little time to relax and enjoy.

They finally sat down from another round greeting and taking pictures with people that the master of ceremonies asked for people's attention.

"We will now have speeches from the witnesses. First, please have a warm welcome for the Hero, Mirko!"

Everyone clapped as Rumi went on the stage.

"Thank you," she paused looking around the room. "As a lot of you may guess, I met Hawks through work. At first, I hated him. I thought he was arrogant little shit and I was mad he had advanced me in the ranking so quickly. Then I met him and realized his truth," She paused dramatically. "He is an arrogant little shit." People laughed. "But he was damn good at his job which it's why we became friends. He always so damn obsessed with Endeavor, I thought he was aiming at the big guy, yeah sorry Hawks, I cannot not mention your big crush on him, I bet Fuyumi knows already anyway."

Fuyumi cannot help to look at her husband while he shook his head. "Of course," he mumbled, looking mildly annoyed but a smile was not leaving his face. She took his hand.

"So anyway, I was sure he was going for the daddy kink, so imagine my surprise when he came to me and said," again she paused dramatically, "'Mirko, I met an angel.'"

Fuyumi giggled. She had heard the story before but it never failed to make her laugh.

"First of all, who says that, but yeah, from that day on, he ranted again, and again and again about this girl who was so beautiful, so nice, so perfect that I was sure he was crazy. Turns out he was right. Fuyumi is so beautiful, so nice, so perfect, her only flaw is that she's into arrogant little shits."

A lot of people in the audience laugh and Fuyumi squeezed Keigo's hand and he squeezed back.

"Seriously, we have a dangerous job. And sometimes we are so preoccupied with saving people, hero ranks and all that we forget about simple happiness." She turned toward the newlyweds. "Looking at both of you reminds me of those small feelings of happiness, like sharing a laugh with someone you care about. So I wish for you both a life full of those small feelings of happiness. Cheers!"

Everyone raised their glasses and Fuyumi smiled more, tears already in her eyes.

"Don't cry yet," Keigo whispered in her ears. "Your brothers are next."

"I know, I've dreaded this moment since I asked Natsuo to be a witness."

"Thank you, Mirko," the master of ceremonies said. "Next will be Fuyumi's little brothers, Natsuo and Shouto!"

People clapped as they both went on the stage.

"Hi, I'm now the unknown member of the Todoroki family, Natsuo."

Fuyumi snorted. It was something Natsuo had started to say since Fuyumi had announced she was dating Keigo.

"I brought Shouto just to make sure I had the cute factor." Shouto bowed as he had a cue and it made Fuyumi snort a laugh even more. "Fuyumi was a terrible kid. Not joking. Mirko just said how perfect she is, well she was the type of brat who screamed if you dared to even touch her favourite doll. A little terror, I'm telling you."

"Oh that I know," Keigo once more whispered in her ear.

"Oh hush! We all know you are the worst of us two," she replied.

"She was also playful, always looking for new things," Natsuo continued. "Fuyumi never lost her playfulness, her joy, her spark. Even sometimes the situation called for her to be serious, she took her responsibilities with a smile. She is, with no exaggeration, the glue to this family. And even if we had our worries about Hawks, he let out in her that playful side even more than before and for that fact, we are grateful."

Natsuo paused and looked at her. Shouto then went to the microphone. "Fuyu-nee, I... we don't know what we would've done if you hadn't been there all along. We wish you both the best of the best."

They both raised their glasses and Fuyumi's tears wouldn't stop. Keigo had scooted closer, his free hand joining their interlaced fingers. The guests clapped and Fuyumi couldn't help to look at her left where her parents were. It felt like her mother hadn't stopped crying since the Shinzen this morning but her father was the most expressive she had ever seen.

They both got up for the last part of the reception. It was a tradition for the newlyweds to do a speech of gratitude to their parents but they had decided to skip it. Part of Fuyumi had wanted to do it but Keigo's situation made it messy. Just as a symbol, Fuyumi gave letters to both her parents as Keigo gave one to Yuuko.

While she didn't know if Keigo had even written something serious in his, Fuyumi had poured her feelings in those letters. Talking about her love and support to her mother, her hurt and forgiveness to her father.

Then her father and mother as the main representative gave the last words to thank the guests for coming.

Keigo and her went outside the room to personally thank everyone who had come. Keigo talking a little bit longer to his sidekicks to say their thanks for guarding the Shinzen against the media. Tokoyami, Keigo's favourite, had replied it was an honour, Dark Shadow excitingly telling them again congratulations.

For what seemed like another eternity, only the family and the staff were left.

They went back to the hotel and even if she loved the Irochikake, she couldn't wait to remove it and be in comfortable clothes.

Her mother followed her to help her remove her kimono.

"I'm so happy for you, Fuyumi," her mother said as Fuyumi changed.

"Thanks, mom."

"I... Again, I'm sorry I wasn't always there for you..."

"Mom..."

"But, to be there, at your wedding, surrounded by your father and your brothers, I cannot thank you enough."

"Mom, I cried enough for the day..."

"I know, me too but I wanted to tell you before you go off to your honeymoon."

Fuyumi hugged her mother. "I love you, mom."

"I love you too."

A knock was heard and Fuyumi was sure it was Keigo but was surprised to find her father.

"I just wanted to tell you a good trip," her father said, glancing at both Fuyumi and Rei.

"Thanks... also for paying so much of… everything."

"That's the least I could do..."

Fuyumi hugged her father. "I love you, dad."

Fuyumi heard her father choke a sob as he hugged her stronger he probably ever did. "I love you too, Fuyumi."

"Ok, this need to stop, I can't cry so much, I have a plane to take," she said as she broke the hug.

"Aww, I love you too dad," they heard from behind and Keigo was waiting there, his arms open.

"I will burn you to crisp," Enji replied, the quirk of his lips making his threat harmless.

"Please do not burn my husband on our first night."

"Yeah, we haven't consumed our wedding yet."

Her father narrowed his eyes and Fuyumi started to pack her things before Keigo said more things.

-The Honeymoon-

They had been overly cliche for their honeymoon destination; Hawaii. But Fuyumi never had gone out of the country and even she didn't like heat, she had wanted the beach. Also, because one of her favourite tv shows had a scene in Hawaii.

They had arrived in the hotel burnt by the long wedding day plus the jet-lagged even if they had slept in the plane. They did a long nap and woke up only for dinner: room service.

Once more, Enji had been more than generous, paying most of the honeymoon and they had reserved the honeymoon suite in one of the most prestigious hotels of Honolulu.

Once fed, they cuddled in the king-size bed while Fuyumi zapped between channels.

"Oh, my PR team already posted about the wedding," Keigo said as he checked his phone.

Indeed, his hero official Instagram had a picture, one taken at the shrine after the Shinzen , they couldn't see Fuyumi's face but Keigo was laughing, looking at her. The text was what had been written beforehand about him getting married to Endeavor's daughter.

"Your father and Shouto also posted."

"Dad too?" Fuyumi asked, surprised. Enji barely used his social media accounts, even with a PR team that could do it for him.

Keigo gave her his phone. While Shouto's picture was just the two of them, again her face strategically hidden with the words "Congrats", Enji's picture was the whole family, Hawks included. She really had to give it to the photographer to have all those pictures where you couldn't see her face. Even Natsuo and Rei had only their profile which made it hard to recognize unless you knew them. Enji was in the middle, with Shouto and Hawks next to him. "My real strength" was the only thing written in the caption.

"God, they really don't want me to stop crying."

Keigo kissed her cheek. "You know, instead of crying, we could do something else. After all, you promised me something today other than the vows."

Fuyumi took a moment to understand what he meant then she snorted. "I did."

"I mean, we haven't even consumed our marriage yet."

"I think we can remediate this situation."

"Glad we are on the same page, my dear wife."

Fuyumi could only laugh as Keigo peppered her with kisses.
