Work Header

Ryu's little time travel adventure.

Summary:

When helping his Pops fight a villain, Ryu accidentally gets hit with his Quirk and ends up in the past, before he was born or his parents even were officially together. However his sudden fall into the past might just come as a blessing for Hawks and Dabi.

Notes:

Work Text:

Dabi had been trough a lot of unexpected stuff on his life. For instance, he did not expect to leave his family behind and fake his death, but he was forced to do it in the end.

But this definitely took the price.

He had been at the league hideout when he received a rather ominous text from none other than Hawks to go upstairs to his room. He thought it was probably something to do with their usual meet-ups, aka a quick fuck. But once he arrived at his room upstairs he realized just how wrong he was.

There on his bed layed a very unconscious teenager. He looked at Hawks, who was just standing to the side, looking at said teenager.

"... What the fuck, Hawks!?"

Hawks cringed.

"I know what it looks like! Let me explain. I was on my way here when suddenly there was this light, and then there was this kid falling off the sky unconscious, so I just... Grabbed him and took him here. I was already on my way!"

Dabi took a deep breath, seriously considering if he should roast Hawks alive right then and there.

"Let me get this straight... You found an unconscious teenager and instead of taking him to a hospital or something you brought him here? To the League's hideout!?"

"Uh... Yes?"

Dabi was about to turn Hawks into roasted chicken when suddenly the kid started to wake up, moving around and whimpering softly. Only then did Dabi took into his appearance: poofy white hair than in a way reminded him of Hawks, weird markings around his eyes that all but reminded him of the hero too, and a pair of massive white wings that faded to blue from the bottom down. Really, the kind reminded him a lot of Hawks. That is until he opened his eyes, and Dabi stared back at eyes that were as blue as his.

The kid suddenly seemed on high alert, looking around the room.

"Dad, pops! What happened!? What about the villain!? Where...?" he stopped suddenly, apparently just now taking a closer look at Dabi and Hawks and cursing under his breath, holding his head in his hands and whispering repeatedly 'no, no, no, no...'.

Dabi watched him seemingly spiral into a crisis, shaking his head.

"Are you sure it was a good idea to bring this maniac here?"

"To the circus of maniacs?" Hawks hummed "I don't know, you tell me..." he turned back towards the kid, who was still mumbling under his breath "Um, hello? Are you okay? Do you have a concussion or something?" Hawks asked, offering the kid a kind smile.

The teenager's head snapped up, and he gulped, still staring at both of them.

"This isn't good..." he sighted.

"Indeed. Can you tell me your name and what happened to you?"

The teenager nodded slowly. So far, the most strange thing about the kid is that he didn't seem to question why he was in a room with the current number two hero and a high ranked villain.

"Uh... Yeah, I... Um, I was on my internship with my Pops, we were fighting this villain, apparently his Quirk was time regression? He could send people back into the past. And it looks like it managed to hit me, so now I'm here..." the kid cleared his throat "I'm Ryu Takami-Todoroki. Your son."

"Son!?" Dabi repeated.

"Todoroki!?" Hawks repeated.

"Judging by that reaction, you're not even officially together yet... So it's way after the fight with the PLF, got it..." the kid mumbled.

"How do we know you're not just lying then?" Dabi asked, crossing his arms over his chest "How do we know you're not a spy or something?"

"Well... I know your name. I know the color of my hair comes from my grandma, your mom. The wigs are a clue already, but..." Ryu paused, a white feather with blue ends suddenly floating in front of him. Then the feather lit on fire. Blue fire.

"Fuck..." Dabi cursed, convinced the kid wasn't lying.

"Yeah, it's nice to know I have a son an all..." Hawks cut in "But can we please get back to the part where Dabi is a Todoroki!?"

Dabi growled.

"Touya Todoroki. Nice to see you again, birdie."

"WHAT!?" Hawks screeched "This... Okay, this is too much. I need a second... You're telling me in the future I have son with you. My childhood sweetheart. You of all people..."

Dabi snorted.

"Oh, so now we're childhood sweethearts?"

"Oh, so now you're denying it?" Hawks retorted. Dabi shrugged.

"So... Now what?" Ryu interrupted.

"You said this happened because of a Quirk, right?" Ryu nodded "So... I don't know, wait until it wears off?"

"He means what are we going to do while that happens, dumbass. We can't just have a teenager around the League's hideout. We already have enough with Toga."

"Right. Well, I guess he can stay with me then. I have a spare room either way..."

Ryu nodded.

"How old are you?" Dabi asked, leaning on the closed door.

"Uh... 16. I turn 17 on December, so only a few weeks from my time, but I don't know how long that is now..."

"Wait, you said you were doing your internships?"

"Yes. At your agency."

"So you're going to be a hero..." Dabi grimaced, clearly not pleased by that information.

Ryu got a sudden look of determination on his face.

"Yes. And I know both of you don't exactly like that idea... But there's something I have to do, and I need a hero license in order to do it. Besides, the Comission is in better hands now. They won't try to recruit me or control me, which only works in favor of me achieving my goal."

Dabi arched a brow.

"And what exactly is that?"

"You'll find out. Eventually."

"Looks like someone inherited your love for being all mysterious all the time..."

"Shut it, chicken."

Hawks protested at the nickname, but Dabi ignored him, still focused on Ryu.

"Can't belive I appently have a kid with you, Kei."

Hawks got startled at the use of the name Dabi used to call him back when they were kids, definitely not expecting that.

"I know, I can't belive it either... We should get going, kid. It's late."

Ryu nodded, hopping off the bed in a quick, swift move. He was no doubt Hawks' son.

Ryu wordlessly made his way over to the window, clawing out into the fire scape with ease. Hawks soon followed, stopping only to look back inside the room at Dabi and clearing this throat.

"You... You can come over, you know? Just let me know if you're dropping by."

Dabi nodded before throwing open the door and exiting the room, not even bothering to see if Hawks and Ryu had taken off already.

Ryu whistled next to Hawks.

"So you two are most definitely not together yet. Got it."

Hawks huffed.

"Not sure how it is that we're apparently together in the future. Da-... Touya is a dick. And a villain."

"He is" Ryu agreed easily enough "But he has a soft spot for us, belive it or not. Now we should go, it's not a good idea for anyone to see the number two hero around here."

Ryu was the first one to take off. It took Hawks a second to realize he had, soon following him. He then realized the kid was wearing a visor and headphones much like his own, with the difference his visor was blue and his headphones black and silver. That was probably his hero suit, then, since he mentioned he was in the middle of helping him fight a villain. It actually wasn't that much different from Hawks'. His undersuit was black too, but with blue details on it, and missing the diamond like shape Hawks wore on his chest as a symbol of the Comission, instead replacing it for a small flame. He was also wearing an aviator jacket, only that his was a shade or two darker than Hawks'. And instead of cargo pants he was wearing what looked like leather pants and boots much like his. Apparently, his son had a more of Dabi's fashion sense than his, despite his hero suit being an almost carbon copy of his.

Hawks didn't question how Ryu seemed to know the way to his apartment, apparently he was still living there in the future.

Flying actually gave him a chance to think about everything that was going on.

He had a son. With Dabi, who so happened to be Touya. This was actually... Surreal. I mean, of course, he knew it was possible for him to have biological children with another man, that was something he knew about his body already. But the fact he had one with Dabi? That was... Yeah, that was something he wasn't expecting. Did he really got so far as to have a kid with him? Of course, he loved Touya, but somehow it felt like he and Dabi were completely different people. Touya was kind and compassionate, Dabi was a wanted villain known for burning other criminals to ashes. They didn't even had a proper relationship when they were younger- the feelings were there, and they both knew it, but back then they were kids. They knew shit about relationships, so they didn't really do anything about it. And since then, it felt like his feelings had been put on stand by, and something inside him seemed to come back to life when he met Dabi. The connection was still there, but none of them were acting on it again. And Touya felt like he was a complete different person than Dabi, but yet, now that Hawks looked back on it, Touya's mannerisms and attitude were still engraved in Dabi. He could see it in the way Dabi sometimes helped him preen his wings with gentle, patient moves, as if he'd done it timeless times before, which he had, as Touya. He saw it in the way his lip pressed together when he was deep in thought. He saw it in the way he knew Hawks' own mannerisms like the back of his hand. He saw it in the way his left brow would get a small crease when he frowned.

Hawks was definitely feeling rather confused.

They arrived at Hawks' apartment, slipping in through the balcony. Ryu looked around, examining the place.

"It's definitely different than my time" he said "It feels all more... Homey in the future."

Hawks could see what he meant, his apartment was perfect. Way too perfect, nothing ever looked out of order, which was only a sign for how little time did Hawks spent there. And since he started dancing around Dabi, he had come to spend a whole lot more time on the Leagues' headquarters and Dabi's own rundown apartment. It was only his place by name, but it didn't felt like it was his at all.

"I guess the spare room is my current room" Ryu said, pointing in the direction of the hallway, to the first door.

"I guess it is" Hawks shrugged. He still think this whole situation was rather strange "Do you have any idea of how long the Quirk lasts?"

"According to the info we had, between one and three months."

"That's not good at all."

"Yeah..." Ryu sighted.

"You can't just stay on the apartment all day for that long."

"Agreed, I'd die of boredom."

"... You're on the Hero Course where? Shiketsu?"

"UA, actually." Ryu shrugged "You both agreed to me going there because UA is out of the Comission's jurisdiction. You were afraid they could try to do something to me before because every other hero school depends on the Comission."

"Didn't you said the Comission was on better hands now?"

"Yeah, but that didn't happened until halfway through my first year."

"I see... You have your provisional license already, I suppose."

"Yes, just got it."

"Well then, you can come to the agency with me!"

Ryu smiled, apparently amused.

"I have a feeling dad won't like that, but sure."

"Dabi can't say shit when he probably won't even show up around here."

"I guess that's fair."

"Let's call it a night for now, it's late. Tomorrow I don't have to work, so i guess we can spend the day together. I'll try calling Dabi, but I seriously doubt he will show up."

"He will, you'll see. He'll do anything you ask him to."

Hawks raised an eyebrow.

"Does he really does that?... In the future, I mean."

"Oh, for sure. He might not really like to show his feelings now, but he'll get there. You'll see."

Hawks grimaced. This all still felt so hard to belive. All signs pointed in the direction that they had a happy ending. Why? Why them of all people? How exactly did they did it? Was Dabi still a villain? What happened with the League? There was too many questions and not nearly enough answers for him. Did they... Did they really deserve a happy ending?...

"I know that face" Ryu interrupted his train of thought "That's your 'I'm overthinking' face" Ryu sighted, walking over to Hawks and placing a hand on his shoulder. It surprised Hawks to see Ryu was almost as tall as him "I know what you're thinking. Too many things happen in the future, and I don't even know if I can tell you half of them... But you and dad deserve everything you have now."

Hawks blinked, confused that Ryu had seemed to guess his exact thoughts.

"You two deserve your happy ending more than anyone. You've been trough a lot, not to mention all it took for you to get together. So yes, you deserve all of the good stuff that happens to you in the future."

Ryu gave him a soft smile before stepping away and walking into what was apparently his room, mumbling a soft 'good night, pops'.

Hawks stood there for a second, stunned, before making his way over to his own room.

Dabi had actually showed up. Well, that was... Something. Hawks wasn't really expecting for him to show up, and yet, there he was. Sitting on his sofa, watching Ryu closely as he picked a movie to watch.

Suddenly Ryu gave out a victorious shout, the feathers on his wings puffing up on excitement. Hawks watched the action with fondness. If the Comission didn't trained him to suppress reactions like that, he would be doing it too all the time.

He walked over to the sofa, leaving the popcorn he had set off to prepare on the coffee table before sitting on the sofa too, right next to Ryu, leaving him between him and Dabi.

"What are we watching?"

"Rio!"

Dabi snorted.

"So, a bird's movie? Can't say I'm surprised."

Ryu laughed before grabbing a half full of popcorn as the movie started playing.

The movie went by swiftly, and that's how they spent their day: all three squeezed into the tiny sofa, watching movies and eventually ordering takeout.

The night started falling. This time, they were watching an old superhero movie, from the era before quirks were a thing.

Suddenly, Dabi felt a weight on his shoulder. He turned his head slightly, catching a glimpse of messy white hair. Ryu had fallen asleep on his shoulder.

"He's quite the kid, isn't he?" Hawks whispered. He apparently had also noticed Ryu falling asleep.

"... He is" Dabi agreed, shifting a little bit so Ryu could be more comfortable.

There had been something on his mind since he learned of the existence of Ryu. Something that had been tormenting him...

"Do you think I'm a good dad? In the future, I mean."

Hawks seemed taken back by that question, but he recovered soon enough and gave Dabi a smile.

"I think the answer is right next to you right now. I mean, look at him. You think he would be so relaxed around you had you turned out like you dad?"

Dabi hadn't specified why he doubted whether he was a good dad or not, but he didn't had to. Hawks just knew him already, and apparently he remembers Touya telling him he was afraid he'd turned out to be like Endeavor one day.

If Hawks saw the way Dabi visibly relaxed, as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, then he didn't comment on it.

"I guess you have a point..."

"... What about me? At least you had a father figure to reference and make sure you wouldn't make the same mistakes he did, but I don't even remember my dad..."

"I'm sure you did great as well, feathers. Ryu adores you."

"But... He said he was helping me fight a villain. He got hit, what if it was because I wasn't fast enough to get him out of the way?"

"You, not being fast enough? That would be a first. But I don't think it's your fault. For all we know, it's possible Ryu jumped on the way so you wouldn't get the hit. You know, hero instincts or whatever."

Hawks snorted.

"You say that as if you didn't jumped in front of me to protect me when my handler would try to punish me for doing bad on our training countless times. Sounds to me like you had some hero instincts on you too."

Dabi shrugged.

"You call it hero instincts, I call it muscle memory from having to jump in between my bastard father and my siblings on a daily basis."

Hawks hummed, his eyes suddenly shinning with something Dabi couldn't really read.

"Still sounds heroic to me. To your siblings, you were a hero every time you saved them from your dad. Probably to your mom too."

"Since when is common sense heroic?"

"It's not. Because not everyone would have jumped in to take the beating..." Hawks looked away suddenly, as if just watching Dabi hurt him "I know I did, but my mom never did. Not whenever she would take a new boyfriend home and encourage them to hit me for fun. But every time one of them tried to touch her, I just... Didn't think. I'd jump in front of her in a heartbeat, as if a 5 year old could protect her. And most of the time, when it was only us and she'd be the one beating me... I wished there was someone to jump in the way I did for her."

A small silence took over the room as Hawks' words sinked in. Back when they were kids, Hawks wouldn't talk a lot of his life before the Comission. He only mentioned he lived with his mom, and that his dad had been arrested before he was even born.

"Sometimes I wonder if my dad would have been that person. Mom didn't liked to talk much about him, but she mentioned once he'd never tried to hit her, unlike lots of her boyfriends... He was a thief, not an abuser. I don't think he even knew she was pregnant before he was arrested by your dad... " Hawks finally dared look back at Dabi, his eyes shinning with tears that didn't dared go down his cheeks. Something inside Dabi broke upon seeing him like that.

"If you ever did for me what you did for your siblings, I would think of you as my hero, too. But..."

'But no hero came', was what came unsaid on his sentence, yet Dabi understood. The only reason Hawks had ended up with the Comission as a kid was because he saved some people with his feathers, and soon enough the Comission's President was knocking at his door, offering to train him. And his mother had accepted without second thinking, practically selling her son and claiming she didn't wanted anything else to do with him.

But if he had never saved those people, if the Comission had never come and fetch him... Who knows what would have happened to him.

Keigo had no one but his abusive mother, who didn't really cared about him. Touya had his dad, who was a complete bastard, but he also had Fuyumi, Shoto, Natsuo and Rei. He had people who loved and him and were worth facing his father's wrath. Keigo never had anyone, not until Touya came along.

And it was then he realized, after he died, he'd left Keigo alone again. Really, he'd always been on his own.

And a part of him wondered too how much faith in heroes could one person possibly have. Keigo knew first hand the world was cruel. No hero had came to rescue him from his mother, the Comission did, but only so they could use him. He was a tool for them. And Hawks knew the truth behind Endeavor and his treatment towards his family, too. He knew what he did behind closed doors, and yet... Yet, he'd become a hero himself.

"I wanted to help" Hawks answered, almost reading Dabi's mind "I wanted to help people like me... And like you. People who didn't felt safe in their own homes. The Comission called me childish, said I couldn't possibly help in every single abuse case... So I had to do it behind their backs. Ever heard of Karasu?"

Dabi narrowed his eyes.

"You didn't..."

"I did." Hawks chuckled "Karasu is known for helping abuse victims, get them out of the country, help get a new identity, anything they need. Karasu is considered a vigilante, only because everyone thinks he doesn't does things legally. Becoming Karasu was... Liberating. But it also reminded me why I wanted to be a hero in the first place: getting to save someone, getting to see the looks on their faces as they thank you... It's all I want. To see the look of pure relief, knowing I helped them."

"Well, maybe mentioning you had a nightime job as a famous vigilante would have helped get you in the League faster."

"Not if it meant confessing it would somehow put everyone I saved and how hard I've worked to keep this a secret in jeopardy."

Dabi shook his head.

"You really are the most selfless person I've ever met, birdie..."

A weight shifted in Dabi's shoulder, and suddenly Dabi realized something: Hawks had Ryu too now. He no longer had to be alone.

Ryu stirred, apparently waking up, and looked around confused until he set eyes on Dabi and Hawks.

"I fell asleep..."

"Can't blame you, the movie was starting to get really boring."

"Did we woke you up?" Hawks asked.

Ryu shook his head, his considerably smaller wings moving slightly behind him. Dabi recognized the motion as him trying to shake the numbness from his wings after having them pressed against the sofa cushions for so long. Hawks tended to do the exact same, although he claimed it was always easier to shed his feathers and leave them aside in order to sit in a sofa, which both him and Ryu had done before starting the movie.

Ryu yawned, still shaking the numbness from his wings. Hawks checked the hour, noticing it was fairly late already.

"Maybe we should call it a night?"

"Yeah, maybe. Ryu looks tired either way."

"Pops, don't we have to be at your agency tomorrow?"

Dabi perched up at that.

"You're taking him to your agency?"

"Yep. Kid's already got his provisional license, and the Quirk can last from one to three months. He can't just stay here for the entirety of that time, he's a bird too, he can't just be caged!"

Dabi rolled his eyes at the bird analogy.

"And you're explaining his presence at your agency... How? It's not time for students from any hero school to be doing internships."

"I'll figure something out!" Hawks carelessly waved a hand in Dabi's direction, dismissing his very valid question "And after that- we're going shopping. You can't be walking around in your hero costume all day, especially since you're going to be using it to help me out at the agency."

"Bold coming from the bird who practically lives in his hero costume..." Dabi mumbled, causing Ryu to snicker in amusement. Hawks just glared at him.

"I have to! The title of number two requires me to work extra hours."

Dabi rolled his eyes again, grabbing Hawks by his wrist and pulling him out the sofa.

"Just shut up already. Come on, I'm staying for the night, you big chicken."

That managed to successfully leave Hawks frozen in place for a couple of seconds.

"You are?..."

"Yeah, and I'm definitely not sleeping in the couch, so unless you want to be the one sleeping here, move your ass."

Ryu watched them, amusement clear on his face. He stood up, making his way over to his room and flashing them a smirk (whether he had gotten that from Dabi or Hawks was unknown) while Dabi still tried wrestling Hawks out of the sofa.

"Just for you to know, I'm not supposed to be born yet, and the walls can be really thin, so either use protection and don't be loud, or one of you definitely sleeps in the couch."

And then he walked into his room, not bothering to collect his feathers and apparently planning on sleeping with his wings bare, closing the door behind him, but still being able to hear clear as day Dabi's impressed laughter and Hawks' horrified shriek of 'Ryu!'.

Finally, and thanks to the distraction created by Ryu, Dabi had managed to pull Hawks from the sofa (and he was absolutely certain that he was pulling up a fight on purpose now).

Giving an exaggerated sight, Hawks stood up straight, and unlike Ryu, he did bothered putting his feathers back on place.

He walked past Dabi and into the hallway leading to the rooms, stopping in front of Ryu's, but not opening the door.

"And who said you were allowed to sass your parents?!"

Ryu laughed at the other side of the door.

"Fine- sorry dad, sorry pops. Goodnight."

Dabi shook his head with amusement.

"Sure, goodnight kid."

Then Hawks made his way into his room, also looking partially amused, and being followed by Dabi.

Wordlessly they took off some of their clothes in order to be more comfortable and laid down in bed. They stared at each other, kind of unsure of what to do now.

They didn't do this. They never had done that before- at least, not as adults. Because they lost count of how many times would they sneak into each other's rooms as kids to sleep together. But as adults, things were different- Hawks had no idea Dabi was Touya until literally two days ago, and every encounter between them before that revelation was casual. Just a quick fuck (although, and not like any of them were admitting it any time soon, but somewhere in the middle of that it started to feel like something more than that- something no one mentioned, because they were both afraid).

And now, it turned out they somehow made it work for a villain and a hero to be together in the future, they had an adolescent son, they had opened up with each other merely minutes ago, and now they were both aware of each other's identities. Their world was already starting to lean sideways, but in the spawn of 48 hours, it had completely turned upside down.

Sending everything to hell, Dabi finally reached out, tentatively wrapping his arm around Hawks' waist.

"Is... Is that okay?" God, had he seriously stuttered while asking for confirmation on whether it was okay to maybe cuddle the number two hero? What the fuck had his life turned into?

Hawks let out a breath, getting closer to Dabi.

"Yeah... That's fine."

And then it was as if a switch had been flipped inside both of them, getting closer and tangling their limbs together, their bodies fitting like old puzzle pieces put together again after a long time.

As the final touch, Hawks threw one of his massive wings on top of them as a make-shift blanket, the other one behind him on the massive bed and hanging lightly off the mattress.

They didn't said anything, both too afraid that, should either of them talk, the spell would be broken, and instead they simply went to sleep like that.

Ryu, who had silently slipped in one of his feathers in the room (that went undetected thanks to years of practice on how to move them slowly and swiftly enough so Hawks wouldn't notice) just to make sure his parents were not going to end up killing each other, smiled before turning over and going to sleep. Tomorrow was going to be a long day.

Turns out, Hawks' idea of 'figuring out' a way to excuse Ryu's presence at his agency was literally telling the truth. He marched into the agency with Ryu tailing after him, in a particularly good mood after waking up all tangled up with Dabi (And Ryu knew neither of his parents were morning persons, Hawks just pretended to be one, but he was a night owl). Fully aware oh his sidekicks confused glances, he called in a meeting, only to almost immediately blurt out Ryu was his son from the future and he was there thanks to a Quirk that sent him to the past. Ryu almost wanted to face-palm right then and there, but he realized something: most faces he recognized. The great majority were sidekicks still under his pop's agency at his time, and there was always one thing Ryu knew about Hawks' choice in sidekicks: they would all give their lives for Hawks in a heartbeat. They adored him, because much to the Comission's displeasure, Hawks had a tendency to 'take in strays' (as the commissioner had called it). He'd take in heroes who had their licenses temporarily removed for minor issues that were often unfair mistakes, those who were for one reason or another casted out of the agencies they tended to work for and rejected in any other.

And back in his time, they all adored Ryu as much as they adored Hawks. He'd spend plenty of time at the agency growing up, so he already knew he could trust them to keep the secret. Heck, Hawks could have even shared the rest of the secret and let them in on the fact Dabi was his other dad and he was certain no one would rattle them out.

There was a couple of faces he didn't recognize, and there were a couple of options for those: gone in battle, or retired. However, there were also faces missing, mainly one of Ryu's uncles, Tokoyami, who Hawks had declared his honorary younger brother, and who went on to permanently joining the agency after he graduated UA. It was kind of strange to think that Ryu was technically a year older than his uncles Tokoyami and Shoto now.

There was a pause, almost as if everyone was waiting for Hawks to say he was joking. Once it was clear it wasn't, Hawks spoke again.

"So, this is Ryu. He is in fact from the future, and he's my son. He was brought back by a Quirk, and he will be staying here until the Quirk wears off, in between one to three months."

"The hardest part to belive, is that the boss actually managed to settle down and have a kid with someone." one of his sidekicks cut in. Ryu recognized them as one of his pop's most trusted sidekicks, Shapeshift Master.

Their comment earned an indignant squeak from Hawks.

"So, how long into the future?" another one asked, this one Ryu didn't recognize. She was young, which almost made Ryu flinch, because that most definitely meant she was one of the ones that died on duty. And it happened somewhere between the next 5 years, considering he'd been 4 when he started coming regularly to his pop's agency.

"About 17 years, maybe almost 18. I'm 16, about to turn 17 on December."

"Wait, so that means..." another one started, again, one that Ryu didn't recognize.

"You're supposed to be born in only a little bit more than a year now!" Shapeshift Master finished. "Boss, you're already dating someone!?"

"I wouldn't say date..."

Ryu snorted.

"You two fell asleep cuddling last night."

Hawks started sputtering and ignored the wolf whistles that came from some of his sidekicks.

"What did I said last night about sassing your parents!?" he finally managed to say.

Ryu laughed, but this time, he didn't even apologized. Hawks shook his head, only pretending to be upset.

"God, you're worst than your dad. You definitely got that sass from him..."

He realized what he said only a millisecond after the words had leaved his mouth, at the same time as a chorus of confused shouts erupted in the room.

"Dad? Dad!? You have a boyfriend!?"

"The fuck!? Then how...?"

"Who is he!?"

"Anyway, glad y'all got to know Ryu since he'll be staying here a while! Ryu, come on, you're coming to my morning patrol with me. Everyone else, get back to work!" Hawks spoke quickly and loud, trying to be heard above the commotion, before literally making his scape out the window, one of his feathers pulling Ryu behind him and leaving behind a chorus of surprised and confused sidekicks.

Ryu was laughing for at least the next five minutes as he followed a sulking Hawks into the busy streets of the city.

"Pops, I don't understand- you can't keep a secret to save your life, and you were sent to infiltrate the League?"

"It slipped out!" Hawks protested "Now shush, we have patrol with Endeavor."

"Oh, grandpa. Fun. Dad says you also never really liked him."

Right, Endeavor was Ryu's grandparent. Somehow, that was even more trippy to think about than him and Dabi having Ryu in the future.

"After finding out as a kid how much of an asshole he is to his family, particularly your dad, your dad's younger brother and mom? No, I never really liked him."

Ryu hummed in agreement.

"Dad gets along a little bit better with him in the future. They're not the best example of a good father and son relationship, but they at least can be in the same room for a record two hours without trying to kill each other."

"Your dad? Not trying to kill him? Now that's news."

They both laughed at that.

"By the way, haven't had the chance to ask you, but what's your hero name, little bird?"

Ryu paused for a second.

"Little bird?"

"Uh- yeah, why? Do you not like that nickname?"

Ryu shook his head.

"It's not that- it's just... That's the nickname you and dad have always called me. Although dad does calls me little dragon too sometimes... That somewhat inspired my hero name, Dragon Bloom."

"Dragon Bloom... I like it."

"Of course you do, all my childhood I was stuck with dragon themed stuff. It seemed only fitting for my hero name to stick with the theme."

Hawks snorted.

"Whose idea was to name you Ryu either way?"

"Yours, apparently you were the one that suggested it. Dad didn't denied it, so it just stuck."

"Huh... Well, what about you an Endeavor? Do you get along with him?"

Ryu shrugged "Kinda. Never had that much of a relationship with grandpa, although he did tried. But dad didn't wanted me to be close to him, and surprisingly he complied, so I'm really closer with grandma Rei than him. We're kind of strangers to one another to be honest."

And before Hawks could answer anything, Endeavor arrived on scene, his usual scowl present. He examined Ryu, looking over at Hawks then with a questioning look.

"Endeavor, good morning!"

Ryu looked at Hawks, thinking it was scary how easily could his pops slip on a fake smile and be friendly towards Enji and still make it look genuine. He was a damn good actor, his best friend Mori would be proud. Although he'd probably bitch about how was it possible for both his parents to be good at acting (since they had found out Dabi was also a damn good actor, and apparently he did enjoyed being dramatic just as much as his pops) while Ryu could not act to safe his own life (Mori had nodded approvingly upon learning his parents were good actors, immediately saying "I knew they were teather gays too, I recognize my own people").

"Hawks." Endeavor addressed him as a greeting, still curious about Ryu, but not enough to outright ask about him.

"Endeavor, this is Dragon Bloom. He will be accompanying us for patrols for a while from now on."

Endeavor growled "If this is one of your interns, I see no reason why you can't leave him at your agency for your sidekicks to look after while we patrol."

Hawks' carefree smile stayed in place, although Ryu did notice the way his gaze got more sharp as he watched Endeavor.

"He's not any intern, he's my son, and as much as I trust my sidekicks, I'll be dammed if I let him out of my sight now. He already got himself in enough trouble by getting hit with a Quirk that sent him to the past."

Endeavor blinked slowly, apparently taking in that information. Ryu almost wanted to snap a picture and send it to his dad.

"You have a son... That comes from the future?"

Hawks beamed.

"That's why you're number one, Endeavor-san, you're smart!"

Endeavor grunted before looking at Ryu again, this time examining him. Ryu tensed up as he realized something: pretty much all his life he'd been told he looked like his dad. Take the markings around his eyes off and replace the white hair for red and there you go, a teenage version of his dad with somewhat messier, slightly curly hair and wings. Endeavor's eyes flashed with recognition for a moment, and Ryu suddenly feared for both his life and his pop's.

"Who's the mother?"

Hawks smirked. "Someone you are familiar with."

Suddenly, it was clear Hawks had said the wrong thing as Endeavor's flames suddenly grew, and he grabbed Hawks by the collar of his shirt.

"You messed with my daughter!?"

Hawks, who apparently had 0 survival instincts, laughed.

"Of course not! Ryu is not your daughter's son!"

Technically not a lie, he wasn't Fuyumi's son. He was Touya's. But Ryu was also technically a Todoroki, even if he had taken his pops last name.

Endeavor grunted, but still let go of Hawks.

"You better didn't messed with her."

Hawks patted Endeavor's arm.

"The overprotective dad is not a look I thought I'd see in you. Anyway, come on Ryu, today we're taking the sky route. See Ya at the end of patrol, Endeavor-san!"

And then he quite literally flew away, Ryu quickly following after him.

Hawks actually didn't lasted long on the air, flying to the top of a nearby building and practically collapsing there. Ryu watched him, midly amused and concerned.

"I cannot fucking stand your grandpa, kid. So he neglects two of his kids and thinks he has the right to act like a protective dad the second he thinks someone is interested in his daughter? Wait until your dad hears this, he'd call him the hypocrite of the century, I'm calling it... "

Hawks sighted. At least he was going to have Ryu around to help him get through this shit show now, even if just for a while.
