Chapter Text
Hisashi groggily found himself swimming back to consciousness, the scent of eggs and toast drifting past his nose. From a distance, as if he were underwater, he heard Tenko and Toshinori arguing about something, likely the quality of the eggs. He heard pattering feet, and then Tenko burst into his room, running over to his side and shaking him.
“Wake up, Papa! Dad’s trying to make eggs, and only you can stop him!” Hisashi groaned, and pushed a pillow over his head. “Five more minutes,” he mumbled, groaning when the pillow was pulled off of him. His eyesight grew clearer, finally able to make out the face of his eldest, staring down at him with barely disguised panic in his eyes. “Please, papa, he’s using the stove,” he said, and Hisashi was immediately up, throwing on clothes and racing downstairs just as the fire alarm sounded. Turning the corner, he saw Toshinori, his love, one of his favorite people, former nemesis and Symbol of Peace, standing sheepishly next to the stove, on which a pan of what must have been the eggs was on fire. He looked up and met Hisashi’s shocked and resigned gaze, as Kurogiri warped into the living room with a fire extinguisher.
“Good morning, dear,” was all he could say before Hisashi smacked him on the head.
---
Once the fire was put out and breakfast was finally cooked (by Kurogiri), Hisashi went to wake up Izuku, who had somehow slept through the entire ordeal, and went to the bathroom to finish getting ready. He was in the middle of brushing his teeth when he felt two lanky arms wrap around his chest and pull him against a chest. He chuckled as he felt Toshinori press his lips against his head, mumbling “sorry about the stove” as he did so.
Hisashi smiled, and put the toothbrush down. “I’m still mad at you, you know?” Toshinori laughed. “I know you are, love.” HIsashi turned to face his boyfriend, mock-glaring. “I thought that you’d learned by now: you never, ever use the stove.” Toshinori grinned sheepishly. “I know dear. I just wanted to make you breakfast.” Hisashi smiled and leaned up to kiss Toshinori. “I appreciate the thought, but I won’t be offended if you ask Kurogiri to take care of it.” He smacked Toshinori’s chest. “Now then, don’t you have an interview with Nezu to get to?” Toshinori’s eyes widened, and he placed a kiss to Hisashi’s scalp before sprinting back to the living room, calling out a final well-wishes to Izuku and Tenko and sprinting out the door. Hisashi smiled. His lover was a good person, and a wonderful hero, but by God was he an idiot.
He came back down to the kitchen to see Izuku shoving folders and notebooks into his small yellow backpack (Hisashi had offered to get him a new one, but Izuku had refused for some reason), and Tenko getting his hero gear on, slipping on his gloves. Kurogiri had finished packing lunches for Tenko and Izuku, and was placing them in front of the two boys. He walked over to Izuku and ruffled his hair. “Do you want me to give you a ride to school Izuku? It’s on my way into work.” Izuku smiled up at him. “No thanks Papa! I already promised to go with Fumichan!” Tenko raised a singular eyebrow. “Oh?” he asked. “Fumichan?” he grinned. “Are you gonna go and ask him out at long last?” Izuku immediately turned bright red and buried his head into his uniform. “It’s not like that Tenko-nii!” he cried. “We’re just friends!” Tenko laughed. “But you want to be more…!” Izuku sighed. “Yeah, I do, but he doesn’t see me like that.” Hisashi smirked. “Speak for yourself, but I think that, if you ask, you’ll find-” He was interrupted by the sound of a doorbell. Izuku’s face lit up, and he sprinted to the door, flinging it open to reveal the bird-headed boy, dressed head to toe in black, save for his red choker.
“Fumichan! It’s good to see you again! It’s been too long!” Fumikage chuckled. “It’s been only two days.” Izuku pouted and pulled him into their house. “Too long!” Fumikage turned to Hisashi and bowed. “It’s a pleasure to see you again, Midoriya-san.”
Hisashi chuckled. “As ever, I’m constantly struck by how polite you are. Would you like something to eat? Drink?” Fumikage shook his head. “Thank you, but I have already eaten before coming here.” Hisashi nodded. “And would Dark Shadow like anything?”
The black mass that made up Fumikage’s quirk shot up and dashed to the counter. “Chips! I want chips!!” Hisashi laughed at the quirk’s antics. “They’re in the top left pantry.” Dark Shadow immediately burrowed into the pantry, coming back out with a bag of chips, which it began to vigorously tear into. Midoriya giggled at its antics and Fumikage’s beak curved slightly up.
Tenko pulled out his phone and checked the time. “Oh shit, it’s time for you three to get going. We’ll see you after school tonight!” Izuku shrieked and grabbed Fumikage’s arm, who just looked resigned as he was pulled out the door. Dark Shadow yelped as it was pulled along by its connection to the bird-headed boy, slamming the door as they left.
The house was quiet for all of two minutes before Tenko turned to Hisashi and Kurogiri. “We are getting them together, right?”
Hisashi chuckled and Kurogiri’s eyes crinkled. “Yes. Yes we are.”
---
Izuku ran across the street to their school, Fumikage right behind him. He really couldn’t afford to be late again. Aldera was already waiting for him to slip up one more time, and he couldn’t be expelled. Not because he would get in trouble with Papa, but because Papa would immediately burn down the entire building, and it would be harder for him to get into UA.
The hallways were empty, but Izuku still felt the watchful gaze of the security cameras on him, judging, hating, all the way to their classroom. Before opening the door, he looked over at Fumikage, who nodded at him, giving him the courage needed to open the door and take his seat, his only friend sitting next to him. He looked down at his desk, and his brow furrowed.
Someone had taken a knife to his desk, carving the usual insults into the desk, on top of the ones that were already there before: useless, Quirkless, Worthless, Stalker, Freak, Pariah, Deku. He didn’t comment on it, instead choosing to cover them with his notebooks, praying that the day would be over quickly.
It wasn’t. He was snapped out of his funk by the sound of explosions, and the telltale yell of his once-friend, Kacchan, screaming something about being a quirkless, weak, Deku. The next thing he knew, he was sent flying back across the room, and his head would have hit the wall if it weren’t for Dark Shadow, who shot out and grabbed him. He sent a weak grin to the Quirk, who gave him a thumbs up and set him down on the ground, curling protectively around the boy and growling at the aggressors.
Kacchan smirked. “You think I’m scared of you, bird-for-brains?! Your quirk means nothing against mine!” His palms sparked, and Dark Shadow flinched, just for an instant, before surging to greater heights. Izuku’s eyes widened, and he jumped in between them, attempting to defuse the situation. For some reason, the teacher grew bored of watching the students fight, and he called the class back to order, although Midoriya was meant to get rid of his now burnt and smoking desk and find a new one.
---
Izuku walked out of the school, head racing. Kacchan had just told him to kill himself. He… He had really gone there, hadn’t he? All those thoughts ran through the boy’s mind as he walked over to the fountain that his notebook had fallen into, only to find it missing.
Before he could start frantically searching for it, his view was suddenly filled with an amorphous black mass. Stepping back, both in shock and to get a better view, he sighed in relief to find that it was just Dark Shadow, proudly holding his burnt but dry notebook. Fumikage was standing next to him, looking absolutely furious, his feathers ruffling. He strode past Dark Shadow and grabbed Izuku’s shoulder, thankfully not touching the shoulder that Kacchan had burnt.
“What.” His voice was low, promising pain. “Did. He. Say.” Izuku looked down at his shoes, wishing for nothing more than to fall into the ground. Fumikage gripped harder. “I need to know. What did he say.”
Izuku gulped, but the answer came out before he could stop it.
“He… he told me to… to take a swan dive off the roof and pray I get a quirk in my next life.”
Dark Shadow stopped smiling, and red started to bleed into his eyes. Fumikage looked like something out of a horror movie in that instant, his eyes filled with such hate that it overwhelmed everything else.
“That fucker.” The use of a swear shocked Izuku deeply, and he had to plead with his best friend to keep him from going to murder Kacchan, reassuring him that it didn’t really hurt him at all, and that he wasn’t seriously going to consider it. Even then, Fumikage would have probably gone to deliver pain to the explosive boy, if it hadn’t been time for his train, and he had to leave Izuku on his own, muttering a soft apology as he left.
Izuku sighed, smiling at the protectiveness of his friend, and continued on his way home, excited to discuss the recent debut of Mt. Lady with his Papa and Dad. He very pointedly ignored the fluttering in his chest whenever he thought of his friend’s care for him.
