All That's Left is a Note

Summary:

Izuku goes to talk to his mom about Aizawa training him, but Inko Midoriya is nowhere to be found.

Notes:

So, it only took me 5 days to decide to make this a series!

Work Text:

Izuku sat up in his bed, yawning and stretching his arms above his head. "That was a nice dream," he muttered, remembering the dream he had about meeting Eraserhead. The two had sat down on the roof and talked, and Eraserhead had told him that he could become a hero. He even said he would train Izuku. "If only that dream was real," Izuku muttered, rubbing his eyes. He reached over for his phone, unplugging it from its charger. He unlocked it and held it in front of him, wincing at the brightness. "No way!" he whispered, staring at his phone, which showed Eraserhead's phone number saved to his phone. "It wasn't... Oh, My God! It wasn't a dream!" Izuku yelled. "I met Eraserhead! Eraserhead wants to train me to be a hero! Eraserhead thinks I can be a quirkless hero!" he cheered, jumping around the room. He froze when his eyes met the eyes of the number one hero. Izuku looked around the room, seeing all of his All Might merchandise. "No. All Might was wrong. You can be a hero," he told himself. 'They have to go,' he thought.

5 minutes later, Izuku was staring at the bare walls of his bedroom, as a neat pile of All Might merchandise sat on the floor. "I should probably go talk to mom, huh?" he asked, smiling, as he looked around his room. Izuku walked out of his room and into the kitchen but found no sign of his mother. 'That's weird. Mom's normally awake by now,' he thought, looking at the clock that read 12:09. He turned around and walked to his mother's room. He knocked on her door, asking, "Mom? Are you awake?" After receiving no response, he opened her door and gasped. The room was empty; there were no pictures on the wall, no clothes lying around, no sheets on the bed, and no papers lying scattered on her desk. "Mom?" he asked again, worried. He ran back to the kitchen. "Mom?" he yelled, starting to cry. He looked through the entire apartment, but the more he searched, the more he realized she was gone. Izuku couldn't find a single thing that belonged to his mother in the house. He walked into the living room and collapsed onto the couch, crying. He looked at the floor and saw a piece of paper that had fallen onto the floor. He picked it up and saw his name on it.

Izuku,

My baby, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, but I just can’t do this anymore. I can’t sit around and watch you long for something that you can never have. My baby, you can’t be a hero. I don’t know how many times you are going to have to hear that before you understand. You’re quirkless, you’re going to get killed if you try, and I can’t watch that.

I met someone, you see, he’s a lovely guy, but he doesn’t want a son, let alone a quirkless one. I love him, Izuku, and I’m so happy with him. I deserve happiness, don’t I, baby? I’m sorry, I’m really sorry, but this is just how it has to be. The apartment is paid for the next 6 months, and there’s enough money to last you for that long. I’m sorry, baby.

Izuku read the letter over and over again, trying to make himself believe it was a joke. After reading it for the tenth time, he finally broke down. Curling himself into a ball, he sobbed for what felt like hours before grabbing his phone and dialing a number.

Aizawa groaned as he heard his phone ringing, waking him up from his sleep. He rubbed his eyes and reached for the phone, answering the call, he growled, “What?”

“Eraserhead?” he heard a boy ask.

“Who...” he began to ask before recognizing the voice. “Midoriya. Kid, what’s wrong,” he asked.

“What did I do? Why did she...” Izuku asked before breaking down into sobs.

“Hey, kid, I need you to calm down for me. I can’t help you if I don’t know what’s wrong,” Aizawa told him.

“Sorry. I’m sorry,” Izuku muttered.

“You have nothing to be sorry for,” Aizawa told him.

“She left me, Eraserhead. My mom left me,” Izuku admitted softly.

Aizawa gasped. “Oh, kid,” he said softly. “Tell me your address; I’ll come and get you, okay?”

Izuku was silent for a minute before asking, “why? Why would you want to help me, Eraserhead? Not even my mom wants me. No one wants the useless Deku."

“Kid, do you remember what I told you last night?” Aizawa asked.

“Huh?” Izuku questioned.

“I told you that there was nothing useless about you, and I meant it,” Aizawa said softly. “I also told you to call me Aizawa, not Eraserhead,” he muttered.

Izuku giggled, making Aizawa smile. “And I told you to call me Midoriya, not kid,” he told him.

“You gonna give me your address, Izuku?” Aizawa asked.

“Yeah,” Izuku said before telling Aizawa his address. Aizawa typed the address into his phone. “It’s about a 20-minute drive from where I live. Are you gonna be okay until I get there?” Aizawa asked.

“Yeah. Um... Thank you, Aizawa,” Izuku muttered.

“Of course, Midoriya. I’ll be there in less than half an hour,” Aizawa told him before hanging up. Aizawa glared at the ceiling for a second, thinking, ‘how dare she!’ before getting out of his bed and walking to the kitchen. As he got closer to the kitchen, he began to hear the worst singing he’d ever heard and smelled the delicious scent of pancakes. “Zashi, I love you, but if you don’t shut up,” Aizawa said, smiling softly as he stepped into the kitchen.

“Shota, my adorable kitten, you’re awake,” Yamaha cheered, walking over to his husband and giving him a giant hug.

“Stop cooking. I need you to drive me somewhere,” Aizawa ordered.

“You just woke up; at least eat breakfast,” Yamada tried to tell him.

“No!” Aizawa yelled. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell.” He ran his hand through his hair. “I’ll explain everything in the car, just please.”

“Okay, kitten,” Yamada said, turning the stove off. “But we’re both in our pajamas, so at least let us change.” Yamada burst out laughing as Aizawa blushed, walking back to the bedroom. Yamada followed.

It took them about five minutes to get changed and get to the car. Aizawa was silent for the first five minutes of the ride. “I met a kid last night on patrol,” he finally said. “He was standing near the edge of the roof, and we talked for a while.”

“No, please tell me he didn’t jump,” Yamada said.

“No, Zashi. God, no!” Aizawa told him. He was silent for a minute before he continued, “he wants to be a hero, but he’s quirkless, so his whole life, everyone told him no. But Zashi, the kids amazing, he has these notebooks that he analyzes heroes in. They’re insane; he has a page about me. He figured out my quirk by watching me fight four times. Four times, Zashi.”

“Someone got attached real fast,” Hizashi said, teasing his husband.

“Shut up, Zashi,” Aizawa said, glaring at his husband. “Anyway, I told him I’d train him for UA.”

“Dadzawa!” Yamada teased, earning another glare from his husband.

“I was going to go meet with his mother today to try and convince her to let me train him, but...” Aizawa said sadly.

“What happened, kitten?” Yamada asked softly.

“She left him, Zashi,” Aizawa whispered.

“No. The poor little listener,” Yamada said.

The two of them were silent for the rest of the drive.

Izuku looked up as a knock sounded at his front door.

“Midoriya, you in there?” Aizawa asked. Izuku got up and ran to the door throwing it open and throwing himself into Aizawa. Aizawa grunted as he felt Izuku run into him but he returned the hug. “Geez, kid. A little warning would be nice.”

Yamada burst out laughing at the two, “You guys are adorable!”

“Um... hi,” Izuku said, confused at who the blonde guy that Aizawa had brought with him was.

“Hey there, little listener,” Yamada said, waving at Izuku.

“Present Mic?” Izuku asked, tilting his head.

“Dang, kid! That’s impressive; not many people can recognize me out of my hero costume,” Yamada told him.

“Kid, meet Hizashi Yamada, aka Present Mic, my annoying husband,” Aizawa said, making Izuku gasps at the word husband and Yamada fake gasp at the word annoying. “Zashi, meet Izuku Midoriya, the kid I decided to train.”

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, little listener,” Yamada said.

“You too,” Izuku said before turning to face Aizawa, “you’re married?”

Aizawa chuckled, “didn’t know that little fact did you?” Aizawa asked, making Izuku shake his head. “Can we come in?” He asked.

“Yeah,” Izuku said sadly. “She left a note,” Izuku said, going to the living rooms and grabbing the note before handing it to Aizawa. Aizawa read the note before handing it to Yamada.

“She’s wrong,” Aizawa told him, “you can be a hero.” Izuku hugged Aizawa again, this time crying into his chest.

Yamada sat down on the couch, holding his head in his hands. “We need to call the police,” he said.

“No, please, you can’t. They’ll put me in foster care, won’t they? They won’t like me; no one likes the quirkless kid,” Izuku muttered, crying harder.

“Hey now, little listener, calm down. You see, there's this super awesome thing about being a hero; we're able to adopt kids super fast," Yamada told him.

“Huh?” Izuku asked, confused.

“You’re not going to go to foster care; you’ll come live with us,” Yamada told him, smiling. Aizawa smiled at Yamada, nodding.

“You really want me?” Izuku asked.

“Yes,” the two of them replied.

“Hey, kid. Why don’t why you go sit with Zashi while I call the police. I’ll be right back, okay?” Aizawa asked. Izuku nodded before walking to the couch and sitting next to Yamada. Aizawa smiled at them before walking out of the room.

“Um... Present Mic?” Izuku asked nervously.

“What’s up, little listener. By the way, you can call me Yamada or Hizashi, whatever you’re most comfortable with,” Yamada said.

“Could I ask you some questions?” Izuku asked.

“Of course,” Yamada replied excitedly.

“Wait here,” Izuku said before running to his room. He grabbed a notebook and ran back to the living room.

“Oh my gosh! Is that one of the notebooks Sho was telling me about?” Yamada asked excitedly.

“He told you about them?” Izuku asked.

“Yup, he was crazy impressed with them, little listener,” Yamada replied, smiling. Izuku blushed, making Yamada chuckle. Izuku smiled at him before asking ten different questions.

Aizawa leaned on the wall outside of Izuku’s apartment. He dialed detective Tsukauchi’s number.

“Aizawa, what can I do for you?” Tsukauchi asked as he picked up the phone.

“Child abandonment case. I need you to come over here as soon as possible,” Aizawa replied, giving Tsukauchi Izuku’s address.

“I’ll head over right away. How’d you find out about it?” Tsukauchi asked.

“I met the kid last night on patrol. He called me this morning, saying his mom had left him. I came over and found him alone in the apartment, with a note saying she had left him,” Aizawa replied.

“Sansa and I will be there in 20,” Tsukauchi told Aizawa before hanging up.

Aizawa ran his hand through his hair. ‘This poor kid. If I ever see his mother...’ he thought before shaking his head and pushing off the wall heading back into the apartment. As he walked into the living room again, he saw Izuku writing in his notebook and Hizashi smiling at the boy. “What are you two doing?” He asked, walking over to them and sitting on the right of Izuku, sandwiching him between the two adults.

“Yamada was answering some of my questions. Speaking of questions,” Izuku said, looking at Aizawa with puppy dog eyes.

“Ask away, kid,” Aizawa told him, chucking.

“How does your capture weapon work?” Izuku asked.

“It’s complicated. It’ll be easier to explain it to you while I teach you how to use it,” Aizawa replied.

Izuku dropped his notebook and pencil, staring at Aizawa. “No way,” he whispered.

“Yes, way,” Aizawa said before Izuku tackled him in a hug.

“You’re the best,” Izuku told him.

Izuku continued to ask the two heroes questions for the next twenty minutes until a knock sounded at the front door. Aizawa got up and walked to the front door. He opened it revealing Sansa and Tsukauchi.

“Long time no see Eraser,” Sansa joked. Aizawa rolled his eyes, making Sansa laugh.

“Come in,” Aizawa told them. “Kid, this is officer Sansa and detective Tsukauchi,” Aizawa announced as the three of them walked into the living room.

“Hi,” Tsukauchi said.

“Hi,” Izuku whispered.

“Is it alright if I ask you some questions?” Tsukauchi asked.

“Is it okay if Aizawa and Yamada stay?” asked Izuku.

“Of course it is,” Tsukauchi said, smiling at the boy. “Alright, first question, what’s your name, kid?”

“Izuku Midoriya,” Izuku replied.

"Alright, would you rather I call you Midoriya or Izuku?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Mido..." Izuku began to say before pausing, "Izuku, please."

"Of course. My quirk is called lie detector; I can tell when someone is lying to me. Now I'm not saying that you're lying to me; I just have to inform you of my quirk, alright?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Okay," Izuku replied before muttering, "that's a really cool quirk,"

"Thank you, Izuku. Now, can you tell me what happened this morning?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Um... well, I woke up, and then I went to go talk to my mom. Aizawa was going to come over and talk to her about training me today. Um... she wasn't in the kitchen, so I checked her room, but it was empty. The whole house was empty. Then I found the note..." Izuku explained before he turned and hid his face in Aizawa's shoulder, tears running down his face. Aizawa ran his hair through the boy's hair, trying to calm him down.

"Can I see the note?" Tsukauchi asked softly.

"Here," Yamada said, handing the note to Tsukauchi. Tsukauchi read the note before sighing and handing it to Sansa.

"We'll need to open a case file. Put out an arrest warrant for Inko Midoriya," Tsukauchi ordered.

"Yes, sir," Sansa said, walking out of the apartment to call some of his coworkers.

"I'll also need to call child protective services; we'll get a caseworker down here. Am I correct in assuming you're taking Izuku in?" Tsukauchi asked Aizawa and Yamada.

"Yup. We'll be looking after the little listener," Yamada said, smiling.

"Alright. You guys are both heroes, so all you really need to do are sign some papers, but that will still take a few hours. Izuku, where would you like this to take place?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Huh?" Izuku questioned, looking up from Aizawa's shoulder.

"It's going to take over an hour for the social worker to get here, and then it'll be a few hours before all the paperwork is done, so if you're not comfortable doing it here, we can go down to the police station, or to Aizawa's apartment," Tsukauchi explained.

Izuku looked up at Aizawa. "can we go to your place?" he asked softly.

"Of course, we can, kid," Aizawa replied.

"Alright. I'll go back to the station, call a social worker, and get the case file going. I'll text you when I found out when the social worker is free. I'll probably stop by while the social worker is around to finalize the case file," Tsukauchi explained.

"I'll walk you out," Yamada said, getting off the couch. The two walked out of the room.

"He's already attached, huh?" Tsukauchi asked as the two of them approached Tsukauchi's car.

"Oh, don't worry, I've already started teasing him about it," Yamada replied, laughing.

"Take care of him," Tsukauchi ordered.

"Oh, did someone else get attached?" Yamada asked.

"Shut it, Yamada," Tsukauchi said, smiling.

"I don't think it's possible not to get attached to that cutie," Sansa said.

Yamada laughed. "Don't worry, Izuku's in good hands."

"I'll see you in a bit," Tsukauchi said before getting in the car, driving off.

Yamada turned around and walked back into the apartment. "Alrighty, my two favorite listeners," Yamada cheered, walking back into the room.

"You're loud," Aizawa muttered.

Yamada giggled. "How you doing, Izu?"

"Okay," Izuku muttered.

The two adults looked at each other worried. "It's okay not be okay, kid," Aizawa told him.

"Can we go?" Izuku asked.

"Yeah, kid, we can. Do you want to pack up some stuff, or do you want to come back for it later?" Aizawa asked.

"Now. I don't want to come back," Izuku replied.

"Alrighty then. Let's get packing," Yamada cheered. The three of them walked into Izuku's room, seeing a large pile of All Might merch. "Dang, little listener, someone is a big All Might fan."

"Was," Izuku muttered. "I'm gonna sell it and buy some new stuff."

"That means shopping!" Yamada cheered, making Izuku giggle.

"I have a better idea," Aizawa said, grinning.

"Better than shopping?" Yamada asked.

"No, we still need to go shopping. But instead of selling all this All Might merch, we're burning it," Aizawa announced. Both Yamada and Izuku turned to stare at him in shock.

"But we can't do that," Izuku said.

"Yes, we can," Aizawa said.

"Okay. So I know you don't like All Might, Sho. But when did you start hating him enough to burn his merch?" Yamada asked.

"Last night," Aizawa replied.

"What did that oaf do to my precious little listener?" Yamada asked.

"He told him he couldn't be a hero," Aizawa replied.

"Oh, that fucker is so getting DJ punched the next time I see him," Yamada muttered. Izuku giggled before bursting into laughter and falling onto the floor. Aizawa and Yamada smiled at the boy. "But seriously, he's an idiot, you are going to become a hero," Yamada told Izuku, once the boy finally calmed down.

"Thank you, Yamada," Izuku said, hugging him.

"You are very welcome," Yamada replied. "Alright, so we're going to need to make three piles. Stuff to bring with us, stuff to burn, and stuff to give or throw away."

"Are we really going to burn it?" Izuku asked.

"Yes," Aizawa replied.

"Yup, we can even roast some marshmallows over the fire," Yamada said.

Izuku giggled as he began sorting his belongings into piles. Thirty minutes later, everything in the room was in boxes, ready to be moved to Aizawa and Yamada's place.

"Um... does your car have enough room for all of this stuff?" Izuku asked.

"Uh..." Yamada said, staring at all of the boxes.

"We'll just take the stuff you're keeping, for now, and then Zashi or I will come back for the stuff to burn," Aizawa told him, picking up one of the boxes.

Yamada picked up the other box. "Let's go, little listener," he said as they walked out of the apartment. Izuku froze right before he exited the apartment.

"Izuku, are you okay?" Aizawa asked softly as he set down the box he was holding.

"Why am I going to miss this place?" Izuku asked.

"Because this place was your home.." Aizawa said.

"But it hasn't been in years. Ever since I was quirkless, this place changed. Mom was overprotective and tried to stop me from being a hero. She ignored the scrapes, burns, and bruises. She... This place isn't home," Izuku said, cutting Aizawa off.

"But you have some happy memories here, don't you, little listener?" Yamada asked softly.

Izuku nodded, saying, "but that was so long ago before I was quirkless."

"But you still associate that feeling of being happy with this apartment. Even though it might have been years since it happened, this place still makes you remember being happy. That's why you're going to miss it," Yamada told him.

"You know, when I was little, I always thought that I would have bad luck unless I touched the top frame of the door. My dad would lift me up and let me touch the door before going out. Dad used to always touch the door frame, too, when he left. I'd wave him off and remind him to touch the top of the door. He'd laugh and smile at me, saying, 'thanks, my little hero,' as he touched it. Mom thought it was dumb and told dad and me to stop, but we never did. The day dad died was the same day I was diagnosed quirkless. Mom didn't let me touch the top of the door. I always blamed that day on the fact I'd never touched the door frame," Izuku said and then shook his head, "It's stupid."

"Do you want to do it?" Aizawa asked.

"Huh?" Izuku questioned

"Touch the door frame," Aizawa explained.

"But it's dumb. That's what mom always said," Izuku said.

"I don't think it's dumb," Yamada said, as he touched the top of the door frame, walking out of the apartment. Aizawa followed, reaching up and touching the top of the door frame. The two turned around and smiled at Izuku, who jumped and touched the top before smiling back at the two adults.

"How do you feel about cats, kid?" Aizawa asked as the three of them walked out of the apartment building. Yamada burst out laughing.

"Cats?" Izuku questioned.

"Yup, we have two cats," Aizawa told him, making him smile.

"I love cats. They're so cute and fluffy," Izuku said.

"I think we should get another," Aizawa announced.

"Sho, no," Yamada said.

"But it's not balanced anymore," Aizawa told him.

"Balanced?" Izuku asked, confused.

"Sho believes that we should have an equal number of cats and humans living in our apartment," Yamada explained.

"That's smart," Izuku said.

"What? Hey, no, you're supposed to be on my side," Yamada told him.

"Please," Izuku said, giving Yamada his puppy eyes.

"I'll think about it," Yamada said.

"That's a yes," Aizawa told Izuku, smirking, holding out a hand for a high five. Izuku giggled as he high fived Aizawa. Yamada glared at them, and they all got into the car and drove off.

When they got to Aizawa's and Yamada's apartment, the three got out of the car. Aizawa and Yamada each grabbed one of the boxes before waking up to their apartment. They opened the door and walked in. Two cats were sitting at the door, a black Bombay cat with green eyes and an orange tabby cat with gold eyes.

"The black one is Loki, and the orange one is Simba," Aizawa told him.

"Simba, like from lion king?" Izuku asked.

"Yup, Zashi named him," Aizawa replied.

"Well, you named Loki after the marvel character so that you can shut up," Yamada muttered, glaring at Aizawa.

"No, I named him after the god of mischief, and I named him very well, thank you," Aizawa retorted, glaring back at Yamada.

"I like them," Izuku said. The two adults turned their heads to see Izuku sitting on the floor, with both Loki and Simba curled up in his lap.

"I have a feeling you're not moving anytime soon, so Zashi and I will go put these in your room, and then start on lunch; you just enjoy the cats," Aizawa told him, smiling at him. Izuku nodded his head as he pet the two cats.

Yamada and Aizawa walked into the guest bedroom that would soon become Izuku's bedroom. "Sho, he's so cute!" Yamada said.

"Yeah, he is," Aizawa whispered. "Are you sure you're okay with this?" he asked, setting the box he was carrying down.

"Of course I am, kitten. I wouldn't have suggested it if I didn't want to adopt the little listener," Yamada replied, smiling at him. "Now come on, I have pancakes to finish making."

The two walked out of the room and into the kitchen. "Kid, you like pancakes?" Aizawa asked.

Izuku's eyes lit up. "You're making pancakes?" he asked.

"Nope. I am. Sho can't cook without burning the place down," Yamada replied, making Izuku laugh.

"You both can shut up," Aizawa muttered as he lay down on the couch. Izuku laughed even harder, and Yamada began laughing as well.

20 minutes later, a knock sounded at the door scaring the cats off of Izuku. Aizawa got up from the couch. "That's probably the social worker; why don't you go sit at the table kid, pancakes should be done in a minute," Aizawa told him. Izuku nodded and got up, walking over to the kitchen table, as Aizawa opened the door.

"Hi, you must be Shota Aizawa. I'm Aki Saito. Tsukauchi called me about the Midoriya case," the woman at the front door explained.

"Yeah, I'm Aizawa. Come in," Aizawa told her, opening the door. "The kids at the table," he told her, leading her into the dining room.

"Hi, there you must be, Izuku. I'm Aki Saito," Saito said, holding out her hand for the kid to shake.

"Hi," Izuku replied, as he shook her hand.

"Please have a seat, take some pancakes if you want," Yamada said, as he placed a large plate of pancakes on the table and then sat down.

"Thank you, but I already had lunch so I'll pass," Saito said, as she sat down. "So, Izuku, is this where you want to stay?"

"Yes. Aizawa and Yamada are so nice, and Simba and Loki are so cute," Izuku replied.

"Simba and Loki?" Saito asked.

"They're our cats. They should be around here somewhere. They're both rescues and aren't the best with new people, but I think Izuku's already got them wrapped around his finger," Yamada explained, making Izuku blush.

"How long have you had the two cats?" Saito asked, taking out a notebook, writing something down.

"Loki's been here for 5 years, and Simba's been here for 4," Aizawa replied.

"And you think you have enough room to take care of 2 cats and a teenager?" Saito asked.

"We have 3 bedrooms; we turned one into an office for us, one's our bedroom, and then the other's a bedroom that Izuku will have," Yamada replied.

"Could I see that room after we're done talking?" Saito asked, writing something down in her notebook.

"Of course," Aizawa told her.

"Now, job-wise, you're both pro heroes. Any other jobs?" Saito asked.

"We both teach at UA, and I have a radio show on Friday nights," Yamada replied.

"And you think you can take care of a teenager with 5 jobs between the two of you?" Saito asked.

"Yes," Aizawa replied, "The principal of UA is very lenient so if needed we can leave a bit early to pick up Izuku. He'll also be fine with us bringing Izuku to UA, so we can get our work done. Our hero work is at opposite times, so one of us should be able to look after Izuku, and if not, we have a lot of friends who would be able to look after him."

"Sounds good with me," Saito told them, "Would one of you be alright with showing me around?"

"Sure, just follow me," Aizawa said, standing up. Saito stood up and followed him as he started showing her the apartment.

Izuku and Yamada sat in silence, as they ate their pancakes. "You doing okay there, Izu?" Yamada asked.

"What if she won't let me stay with you?" Izuku asked.

"Hey, look at me, little listener, everything is going well so far; I don't think that's going to happen," Yamada told him.

"You really think so?" Izuku asked.

"Yup, she hasn't said anything bad yet, right?" Yamada asked, smiling at him.

"I guess," Izuku muttered.

"So there's nothing to worry about. Just eat your pancakes," Yamada said.

"They're really good," Izuku told him.

"Alright, I think we can start working on getting this paperwork filled out," Saito said as she and Aizawa walked back into the dining room. Izuku smiled at that statement.

"I hate paperwork," Aizawa muttered, making everyone at the table laugh.

An hour later, Aizawa, Yamada, and Saito were still sitting at the dining room table, papers laid out all around them. Izuku had moved to the couch, and the two cats had crawled back onto his lap, and he was petting them. A knock sounded at the door, and everyone turned their heads to look at the door. "Izuku, can you get the door, please?" Yamada asked.

"Um... No. The cats are lying on me, I can't move, that's the rule," Izuku replied.

The adults stared at him for a second before Aizawa got up and walked to the door, saying, "he does have a point." Aizawa opened the door and found Tsukauchi standing there. Aizawa opened the door for him to come in.

"Hi there, Izuku. How are you doing?" Tsukauchi asked as he walked into the apartment and saw the boy sitting on the couch.

"Amazing," Izuku replied, looking down at the two cats, smiling brightly. All of the adults laughed at the boy.

"That's good to hear, kid," Tsukauchi told him. "How goes the paperwork?" he asked, making Aizawa groan as he walked back to the table.

"We should only have about thirty minutes left," Saito said.

"You got any more questions for the little listener?" Yamada asked Tsukauchi.

"Nope, we have everything we need. I just thought you would want an update. We have an arrest warrant out for Inko Midoriya, but no one has seen her since yesterday. Though I do have some good news, Izuku isn't going to need to testify when we do catch her. The note should be enough to get her charged," Tsukauchi replied.

"That's good to hear," Aizawa said, "coffee?"

"That would be nice," Tsukauchi said as he sat down at the dining room table.

"Been busy today?" Yamada asked.

"You have no idea; this is the first break I've taken since 8 this morning," Tsukauchi told him.

"I'm sorry," Izuku muttered.

"It's not your fault, kid," Tsukauchi said, as Aizawa handed him a mug of coffee.

They sat in silence for twenty minutes, until Saito broke the silence.

"So," Saito said, "what last name should I put down for Izuku?"

"Kid, what last name do you want?" Aizawa asked.

"Uh..." Izuku said.

"You can have Aizawa, or Yamada, or Aizawa-Yamada, or Yamada-Aizawa, or we could combine them. Aizamada," Yamada suggested. The adults all looked at him like he was crazy while Izuku burst out laughing.

"Not that," Izuku said.

"Hey, I thought it was good," Yamada told him.

"It was horrible, Zashi," Aizawa said.

"What Aizawa said," Tsukauchi agreed.

"Could I have Aizawa-Yamada?" Izuku asked.

"Of course you can, Kid," Aizawa replied.

"Izuku Aizawa-Yamada. Sounds lovely," Saito said. "You want to come and watch them make this official, Izuku?" she asked. Izuku picked up the two cats and walked over to the table.

"Wow, kid, the cats already like you?" Tsukauchi asked.

"Yeah," Izuku said, confused.

"I think I saw them for the first time the tenth time I came over. It took another 15 times for me to touch them, let alone pick them up," Tsukauchi told him.

"Ready?" Aizawa asked, looking up at Izuku.

"Yeah," Izuku replied. Aizawa signed the last form before passing it to Yamada, who signed it.

"Alright then, you are officially Izuku Aizawa-Yamada," Saito announced. Izuku started crying as she said that.

"Hey, little listener," Yamada said worriedly.

"Happy tears, very happy tears," Izuku informed them.

"Come here, kid," Aizawa said, standing up and opening his arms for a hug. Izuku placed the cats on the ground and hugged him.

"Family hug!" Yamada cheered as he hugged the two of them, making everyone laugh.

"Well, I'll go turn all of this paperwork in and let you guys be. I'll come to visit in about two weeks just to make sure everything is going okay," Saito told them as she packed up all of her stuff.

"I should probably get going as well, congrats, Izuku," Tsukauchi, said standing up.

"Thank you," Izuku told him.

"Thanks, both of you," said Yamada.

"Of course," Saito said.

"Have a great rest of your day," Tsukauchi told them as the two walked towards the door.

"Wait!" Izuku yelled after them, "Touch the top of the door frame before you leave. It's good luck."

"Thanks, Izuku," Tsukauchi said, as he reached up, his hand touching the top of the doorframe. Saito smiled at the boy touching it as well, as the two left the apartment.

"This is real right? I'm not dreaming?" Izuku asked.

"Definitely not a dream," Yamada replied, laughing.

"I can pinch you if you want," Aizawa told him. Izuku just glared at him, making him laugh.

"This is the happiest I've felt since that day. Thank you," Izuku said, smiling at them.

"Of course, Izuku," the two told him, smiling.
