“Alright, well, I think I’m ready to sleep for the next decade,” Apollo muttered, shoving the doors open as he and Athena trudged their way out of the courtroom.
“Oh absolutely,” Athena mumbled, drooping a bit as she fell into step beside him. “I know you guys like turn-about-ing your cases, but sometimes a girl needs some time to breathe, you know?”
“Oh come on, you think I enjoy having twelve plot twists in court?”
“Herr Forehead!”
“DAMN IT, okay, thirteen.” Apollo turned to see Klavier approaching from the side, grinning that rockstar grin. “Prosecutor Gavin, what are you doing here?”
“Well, I had a bit of free time, so I managed to sit in the gallery for your trial,” Klavier said. “I have to say, you and the Fraulein looked pretty good back there, ja?”
“Oo, thanks Prosecutor Gavin!” Athena chimed, but Apollo just grunted.
“Well, to celebrate such a spectacular win, I thought perhaps I could take you for dinner?” Klavier said. “Or perhaps coffee? My treat of course.”
Apollo groaned, rubbing his face. “Ugh, can we rain check that?” he managed. “Maybe tomorrow? I think Payne’s voice set off like four different migraines.”
Klavier’s smile faded, ever so slightly, but he nodded. “Ach, well, I’m sure I can fit you into my schedule if you’re that insistent.”
“Great, thanks.”
Klavier leaned in a bit, that rockstar smile back in full force. “I will see you tomorrow, then, ja?”
“Sure. See you tomorrow.” And Apollo leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to his lips. “Alright, bye.”
There was a weird silence as Apollo turned and trudged off. After a moment, Athena popped into view, suddenly looking far more awake. “…uh, hey, Apollo?”
“What?”
“Uh, what was that?”
“…What was what?”
“…Y-You know. That.”
Apollo frowned at her, blinking off the headache still pounding behind his eyes. He frowned back at Klavier, who was still standing where he was before, frozen in place. “Uh, that’s Prosecutor Gavin. You’ve met him before, haven’t you?”
“What?! No, the…the…” She made some motions toward her mouth, Widget still glowing yellow on her chest. When Apollo just stared at her, she sighed. “…you know what, never mind. I am SURE we’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
