“How do we know you’re not a lying cop, huh?” Band tee guy gave a snicker at that, and eyepatch guy grinned like a shark who smelled blood in the water. Mu Qing would almost swear every single tooth in his mouth was showing, and he angrily crossed his arms. “What? Scared that you got caught?”
His brow twitched. “I didn’t get caught. I’m not a fucking cop.”
As they taunted him, a sleek, black cat jumped up onto the back of the couch. It was missing an eye, a mirror to eyepatch guy, but in its mouth was a jingling toy. Cats didn’t care about interrupting conversations, and this one walked gracefully along the back of the couch and dropped his toy into He Xuan’s lap.
Plucking up the toy, He Xuan glanced at it. Then, he looked back up with something swimming in his eyes. It could almost be mischief, if he weren’t so apathetically blank. Then, he threw the toy directly at Mu Qing, and he stepped back and watched it fall to the floor. “Fetch, cat boy.”
