Chapter Text

Lumine was an oddity, there was no doubt about that.

From her slight accent to the way she attacked everything she saw, the people of Teyvat knew she didn’t belong. But, to be honest, they didn’t really care. She did save Mondstadt (and to an extent Teyvat) multiple times which seemed to be more than what the Knights of Favonius, the incompetent trash, were doing.

Even so, the traveler eventually grew on the citizens of Mondstadt, her curious actions dismissed and overlooked. However, there was one person who could not, for Barbatos’ sake, understand what exactly goes through the mysterious girl’s head.

That one person was Diluc Ragnvindr, owner of the Dawn Winery and concerned citizen of Mondstadt. He thought that he had seen the weirdest of shit that Teyvat could offer, growing up with Kaeya and all, but apparently he hadn’t and the Archons were tempted to fix that.

It started before Diluc even knew Lumine personally. It was a rather nice day with a nice cool breeze and Diluc was taking a stroll through the the streets, occasionally waving to store owners and ignoring his usual adorers. So far, he had only heard rumours of the infamous outsider and he would actually like to meet this saviour of Mondstadt.

He took a left turn from Wagner’s workshop, turning into the main street, with the Adventurer’s Guild and the Good Hunter, before coming to a stop at the fountain. There were some Fatui diplomats nearby, if he was just so happening to be looking through the general goods store and he accidentally caught wind of an illegal Fatui camp near Wolvendom, then the burnt grass and ash at that exact location would just be coincidence, right?

At the corner of his eye, he saw a dark shadowy figure on the ground, moving left and right at a rather alarming speed. It seemed to be coming from the roof of the exact general goods store he was browsing through. Cautiously, he took a step back and peered up, squinting against the sun to see a person with a rather petite figure jumping up and down quite vigorously.

Diluc blinked in confusion, glancing around the street to see if anyone else was seeing the same thing or if he was hallucinating. As if the entirety of Mondstadt was in on a joke of having someone jump on a roof while everyone ignored it completely, the many people who were going about their day didn’t even spare a glance up.

“Master Diluc, are you here for some lunch?” Sara, from the Good Hunter, called out to Diluc, who was still staring bemusedly at the rooftop.

He had subconsciously taken a few steps back to get a better view and ended up with his back to Sara. He observed the shadow for a while longer, before turning back to Sara and murmuring, “Good afternoon. Just a quick question: Is it just me, or is there someone jumping on the roof of Mondstadt General Goods?”

Sara took a moment to follow his line of sight, following his example and narrowing her eyes against the bright glare of the morning sun.

“Ah,” She replied as if that answered everything, “You mean Lumine? So that’s what she’s been up to these days. I was getting a bit worried since I haven’t seen her around in a while. Last I heard, she was near Stormterror’s Lair, getting crystal chunks. I don't know why that girl goes there of all places and how she manages to travel so fast but to be honest, I don’t really care. I don’t think any of us do anymore.” She giggles softly before turning away to take another customer’s order, leaving Diluc to process the given information.

So the notorious girl, who Diluc had been hearing so much about from his informants, was a hyperactive oddball. Good to know. How much more of this girl was he going to see?

_______

Up on that rooftop, Lumine was grumbling in frustration and was a hilichurl’s hair width from pulling out her own. Why was there a glowing white triangle, pointing downwards at some merchant poster? How did it get up there? What in the goddamn hell did Branch Master Cyrus in Mondstadt want??

Notes:

this came to mind when i was doing exactly what lumine was doing idk what i was doing but i was literally so annoyed at that glowy white triangle

also pls i’m too scared to move on to world level 2 so take this as non-canon compliant.
also also idk when i’ll update next, might be tomorrow might be 3 years later it rlly depends on my mental stability and commitment issues
