Work Text:
Every other Friday, when everyone else leaves for the dorms, Eijiro stays behind and dyes his hair. He used to do it at home, but with the dorms in place, the home visists aren't often enough for Eijiro to dye his hair then.
So he makes due. None of Class 1-A has seen Eijiro dying his hair yet, which is a relief.
None of them have seen Eijiro's black roots showing either.
So when Eijiro heads to the boys' locker room after school eearly Friday night, he is utterly unprepared for the sight that greets him.
Midoriya is standing over the bathroom sink, a bottle of green hair dye in one hsnd and a dripping comb in the other.
Eijiro feels like he's intruding on something private. He lets out a small cough, and Midoriya whirls around.
"Kirishima-kun!" Midoriya looks panicked. Eijiro waved at him shyly, but that makes Midoriya look even more concerned. "W-what are you doing here?"
Since he knows Midoriya's secret now, it's only fair for Eijiro to reveal his own, so he holds up the bottles of bleach and hair dye from behin his back.
"You too?" Midoriya murmurs.
"Yeah." Eijiro brings a hand up to sheepishly rub the base of his neck as he admits, "I've been dying my hair since the entrance exam."
"Oh." Midoriya says. After a pause, he tells Eijiro, "I've been dying my hair since I was a kid."
"That must be expensive." Eijiro blurts out before he can think better of it. He blushes profusely at the rude assumption.
"Yeah, it is," Midoriya agrees ruefully.
After a moment, Eijiro asks, "Why do you dye your hair?" When Midoroya hesitates, Eijiro backtracks, "Never mind! That was a rude question, sorry!"
Midoriya blinks, then says, "What? No, its fine, Kirishima-kun. I just wasn't sureho to answer." Another pause, then Midorya answers Eijiro's question, "I just wanted to look more like Mom; she has green hair."
"That's so manly!" Eijiro pumps his fist in the air, then looks down sadly. "Not at all like my reason. It's cowardly.
"I'm sure it isn't," Midoriya exclaims. Eijiro shakes his head doubtfully. Midoriya's eyes narrow as he challenges, "Let me be the judge of that, Kirishima."
"Fine," Eijiro sighs. "In middle school a villain showed up and I froze. Mina had to save the day. That's why I dye my hair; as a reminder to be manly."
"Well, I don't think that's cowardly at all," Midoriya says after a moment.
"Really?" Eijiro inhales. Midoriya nods.
His smile slowly stretches into a grin, and Eijiro looks at him curiously. Midoriya tells Eijiro his plan, and after a moment, Eijiro grins too.
An hour later, Eijiro and Midoriya walk hand-in-hand into the common room.
Several of their classmates look up and avert their gazes, uninterested. Then, they do a double take.
"What happened to your hair?" Denki shrieks. The rest of the class echoes his sentiment.
Eijiro and Midoriya smile at each other. Eijiro had been hesitant about the plan at first, but it is working out exactly as Midoriya said.
It's weird to see Midoriya with red hair, but Eijiro doesn't mind. It's probably just as odd to see Eijiro with green hair, after all.
