Chapter Text

this is my first fanfiction so please excuse me if it's really bad haha

It was another regular day at PK Academy. This 'regular day' consisted of Saiki's desk being overcrowded during break time by his friends while he tries to ignore them. As the bell was about to ring, the group at the desk suddenly teleported to a separate location.

The group collectively fell onto the floor of an unfamiliar room that resembled a home theatre. Saiki, Kaido, Teruhashi, Kuboyasu and Yumehara, all looked around in confusion at the sudden change. Saiki quickly tried to analyze the situation while the others started freaking out.

"Is this the work of Dark Reunion?! Come out and face us, you cowards!" 'If this is some sort of prank I'll beat the culprit's face in!' "What just happened?! Am I dreaming? I must be dreaming!" 'Where are we? We were in the classroom just a second ago!' and various other thoughts and talk along those lines were heard.

Eventually, the yelling died down to a normal level, not that it made much of a difference to Saiki since their thoughts were still just as loud and persistent. The psychic could tell that no one knew what was happening but what he found more surprising was the fact that he couldn't hear any thoughts outside of the room.

'I can usually hear at least a handful of people but other than in this room, there doesn't seem to anyone in the vicinity.' Saiki thought while looking around the room. He tried checking through the walls and floor with his x-ray vision but didn't see anything other than something akin to a void, which was concerning. He also couldn't teleport so he came to the conclusion that something was messing with some of his powers.

That was when Teruhashi spoke up, "Everyone, I think I've found something!" while waving a piece of paper in her hand. Everyone gathered around her while complimenting her for finding a clue.

Teruhashi read the note out loud, "This isn't meant to harm you so please don't worry too much for the time being. You will be watching a show based on you and your friend's lives. You will not be able to leave this room until you are finished so keep that in mind. You will return to the moment I took you from a few minutes after you finish. Until then, feel free to sit down in the provided seats and the first episode will begin shortly. Sincerely, Anonymous".

Everyone decided that seeing as they couldn't do anything at the moment, they should listen to what the note said. Of course, they were still concerned about the fact they were trapped in a room they had seemingly been teleported into by an unknown person.

They all looked towards the screen at the front of the room as it turned on.

Chapter Text

While everyone else was wondering what was going to be revealed in the upcoming episode, Saiki was thinking, 'If this show is supposed to be about our lives I can probably expect my powers to be revealed soon. Since explaining my powers would be redundant, seeing as it's about to start, I'll let them figure it out. There might be a few hard feelings, considering that they're finding out from a third-party instead of me telling them myself, but they'll most likely come around.' so he settled into the chair as the video started playing.

‘Psychic powers make the impossible possible.’ narrates Saiki’s voice.

“Isn’t that your voice Saiki?” says Teruhashi, and Kuboyasu chimes in with a “And why are you talking about psychic powers?”. ‘I don’t know.’ Saiki replies to the second question, and this was the truth since he didn’t recall ever narrating like this, ‘It also seems to already be getting into my psychic powers.’.

A guy appears on screen “What a cutie! I’m a huge dog lover.” ‘But I love chicks even more’ he chuckles.

“What a crappy guy.” says Kuboyasu with Kaido and Yumehara nodding along.

“Wait, Pochimi!” shout the dog’s owner, as it runs in front of a moving vehicle, “Watch out!”.

The car suddenly jumps off the ground and passes over the dog.

“...” everyone, minus Saiki, stares uncomprehendingly for a few seconds before “EHHHHHH?”. “H-Has Dark Reunion started their evil schemes?!” “That car just ignored gravity!” followed by some more screaming and shouting. ‘Wait, didn’t the video start with Saiki saying something about psychic powers? Could it be that…’ thinks Teruhashi frantically. ‘Good grief, they’re already so loud.’ Saiki sighs while everyone else is still freaking out.

Someone wearing the PK Academy uniform is partly shown with a hand raised.

“Hey it’s our school uniform guys!” points out Yumehara, and everyone calms down a bit and notices as well, “Wonder who it could be.” says Kaido.

The person is revealed to be Saiki, ‘My name is Kusuo Saiki. I’m a psychic.’.

“WHAT!” everyone shouts and turns to Saiki, who on his part, is sitting in his chair staring back. Kuboyasu speaks up first, “What are you talking about Saiki?”. Saiki sighs and answers, ‘I was born with psychic powers. They include telepathy, telekinesis, invisibility, teleportation and clairvoyance, among other things. I’ve been keeping them a secret since I was a kid.’.

They all silently take in the information and are quiet but thinking non-stop inside their heads with questions and thoughts about what it means. Kaido opens his mouth, which Saiki knows is to ask a question, but Saiki stops him and says ‘Before you ask any questions, it looks like the video is about to do some explaining so I’ll answer any ones you have, afterwards.’ and looks back to the screen. The others seem to understand and do the same and look forward.

It shows text saying ‘16 years ago’ as Saiki narrates ‘Sixteen years ago, an ordinary couple had a baby boy’ as it fades to show Saiki as a baby with his parents ‘who was anything but ordinary.' and baby Saiki is shown sleeping in his crib.

‘It’s Saiki as a baby!’ thinks Teruhashi, finding him pretty cute as one. Saiki resolutely ignores her as per usual.

The parent’s heads pop up “Look how cute he is! He’s as cute as his mommy!” “So cute! He’s as cute as his daddy!” “Such a cutie pie.” they exclaim. Baby Saiki wakes up ‘So, I’m only in second place?’ and it switches to Saiki narrating ‘I started talking when I was only 14 days old without using my voice. And then...’.

“Fourteen?!” exclaims Kaido, ‘That’s impressive, even if he does have superpowers… and didn’t actually use his voice.’.

“Look who’s walking! Look who’s walking!” chants the mother while clapping her hands. It shows baby Saiki walking in the air, ‘When I was a month old, I started to walk in the air.’. “Amazing!” says the dad while his son drools on him.

‘Well, this at least proves Saiki wasn’t lying. Not that I thought he was!’ thinks Teruhashi. “Your powers are really cool, Saiki!” says Yumehara with an awed expression on her face.

The scene changes to show the kitchen, ‘And when I was one…’. The mom stands up, “Looks like we’re out of rice wine.” and Saiki is shown disappearing in the background and his mom looks over to where the baby had been “Ku?”. Saiki reappears on the counter with multiple bottles of rice wine ‘I successfully ran my first errand.’. “Ku…” as it shows baby Saiki, ‘That’s when my mom finally started to worry.’.

“She probably should’ve started sooner.” says Kuboyasu and the others nod, including Saiki, ‘Although, she never really started worrying in the end.’.

‘You would think that at this point, my parents would take me to get checked out.’ says Saiki while showing imagery of baby Saiki getting checked out, ‘But they’re pretty weird too.’.

“They are, aren’t they.” thinks Teruhashi out loud, before covering her mouth realizing she had said that, “Not in a bad way though! They’re wonderful parents and they’re not weird in a bad way at all!”. Saiki just nods, not much that he could say in response.

It shows his concerned-looking parents, “I bet he stole them.” says the mom “I’ll take him to the supermarket tomorrow.” while baby Saiki holds up a receipt ‘They’re pretty lazy, too’.

“That’s what they were worried about?!” shouts Saiki’s friends, with a hint of exasperation. “There are more important things in life than some stealing, especially psychic powers.” states Kuboyasu, making some of the others sweatdrop, ‘You’re right, but the way you put it…’.

“Our little psychic paid after all!” “He takes after you.” says his parents as they fawn over him. ‘They’re a pretty happy-go-lucky couple, and they act like silly little lovebirds.’ narrates Saiki.

“I think they’re cute!” says Teruhashi and Yumehara agrees, “Definitely! I’d love to be in a relationship like that someday!” she says while glancing at Kaido, who is oblivious, as usual.

‘So they accepted me as I was without any fuss.’ 2 years old Saiki is shown with a photo-realistic drawing of his dad, “He’s so artistic!” compliments his mom.

“Amazing! You can draw like that?” says Kuboyasu, ‘More like I can only draw like that.’ thinks Saiki to himself.

‘The days went by.’ cuts to current Saiki, ‘And that little boy became a high school student.'. ‘As you saw earlier, I still have my psychic powers.’ and shows the earlier scene of him using his psychic powers to save the dog.

“I still can’t wrap my head around it, honestly.” says Kaido with a small chuckle, “I mean I know that I have unspeakable power sealed into my right arm, but to think that you, Saiki, actually had psychic powers this whole time.”. Saiki gives a small shrug, “Well, I think what matters now is that he’s told us and we know.” says Teruhashi, with a kind smile as always as the others nod and agree with her statement.

‘I can bend spoons without touching them, and I can hit it big whenever I want to.’ he narrates while it shows some imagery. An imaginary scene with Saiki is shown, ‘I’m living the dream.’. It cuts back to Saiki walking, ‘I bet that’s what you’re thinking, right?’ he exclaims, as he turns towards the camera.

Some of the occupants in the room looked away from the screen with a tiny bit of guilt, Saiki just sighed again, ‘It is a fair assumption when coming from their perspectives, but still an incorrect one.’.

‘So, what if I can bend spoons? That just makes it hard to eat my curry. And winning free snacks just gives me stomach aches.’. ‘If you think that I’m the happiest guy alive and that I have it all, you’re dead wrong.’ he says as the camera zooms out of his face, ‘I’m the unhappiest guy alive and I have nothing.’.

“Don’t you think that’s a little dramatic Saiki?” asks Yumehara, turning towards him. Saiki gives a small incline of his head, ‘I do admit that my onscreen self seems to be exaggerating a bit, but even so, powers aren’t all they’re cracked up to be in reality.’ and he thinks a bit to himself, ‘But I know now first-hand that powers are a large part of my daily life, and I do enjoy them to a certain extent sometimes, so it’s not too bad of a thing that they decided to stick around.’.

‘Telepathy, psychokinesis, x-ray vision, foresight, teleportation, clairvoyance, and et cetera. I can do all those things.’.

“Wow.” gasps everyone, but Saiki, “You have a lot of useful powers, huh Saiki?” states Kuboyasu, even if it was formed as a question.

It shows Saiki walking again, ‘But for each thing I can do, there’s something I can’t do.’.

“What do you mean by that, Saiki?” asks Teruhashi, turning towards him. Saiki gestures towards the screen with his head, ‘Keep watching, it’ll probably explain on its own.’.

‘A dog that’s fed by its owners never learns to hunt for food on its own. Spoiled children who always get what they want never learn how to be independent.’ he says while showing related scenes, ‘So trust me, I’ve missed out on so much!’ and Saiki is shown once more but with dramatic lighting.

‘I don’t know what it’s like to feel a sense of accomplishment. I’ve never been surprised by a surprise party. I can’t experience any of these things.’ and more walking is shown.

‘Wait, does that mean he knew about his surprise party that one time? But his reaction looked so genuine!’ thinks several of them at once, ‘Well, this show will probably cover that so I’ll leave the question alone for now.’ and so Saiki ignores their internal questioning.

‘It’s true that I never get angry or sad, but I never feel happy, either. That’s my life’.

‘That sounds horrible, I can’t imagine living like that. Maybe I should try to comfort him…? But wait! He isn’t really someone that seems to want others to comfort him so maybe I should just leave him alone? Wait, he has telepathy so can he hear everything I’m thinking anyway?’ Teruhashi glances at Saiki, who gives a little nod in response to her last question and she looks back towards the screen, embarrassed. ‘The thought is appreciated and thank you for not making this any more unpleasant than it has to be.’ and Saiki looks back to the screen, ignoring any looks the others may or may not have given him.

It shows Saiki’s house, ‘Still, I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed or anything.’ and it goes back to Saiki, ‘A life without ups or downs isn’t all that bad.’.

Saiki’s friends all let out a small relieved sigh, seeing that their friend isn’t overly upset with his life or struggling too much.

‘Kusuo is late.’ is heard from Mr. Saiki and the mentioned Kusuo looks up.

“That’s your dad, right Saiki?” asks Kaido, a nod of confirmation from Saiki.

The dad gets up from his curled up state at the front of the house when he notices his son approaching, “Oh, you’re back! What took you so long?” and Saiki thinks to himself, ‘Why is dad hanging out in front of the house?’. Kuniharu adjusts his glasses “I was wondering if you could open the door for me. I couldn’t get in”. Saiki is shown with an unamused face, ‘Really? Again?’.

“Again? Does that mean your dad gets locked out often?” Kuboyasu asks Saiki. He simply nods and broadcasts an ‘At the time, yes, it was a regular occurrence.’. ‘At the time…?’. wonders Kuboyasu.

Saiki walks up to the door and lifts his hand to the handle. A closeup of his face is shown and his eye glows as the lock unlocks itself. “That’s my little psychic! Such amazing lock picking skills!” says his father as Saiki opens the door, ‘I’m not a burglar.’. Saiki’s father strikes a dramatic pose, ‘Kusuo, I think you can do something amazing with your powers.’ and a ‘Keep those thoughts to yourself.’ is Saiki’s reply.

“Your dad’s pretty funny, Saiki.” comments Kaido.

“Ku, is that you?” calls Kurumi Saiki’s voice from inside the house. At the sound of her voice, Mr. Saiki bolts into the house, “We’ll talk more about this later, Kusuo!”.

‘Actually, there is one thing that disturbs my rather calm life.’ says Saiki, “Why did you change the lock again?” yells Kuniharu at his wife as she cooks, ‘That would be my parents’ relationship.’.

“Why is that Saiki? Whenever I came over I think they were getting along really well.” asks Teruhashi, “Yeah, they seemed really close! Even on screen earlier.” adds Kaido. All Saiki responds with is, ‘You’ll see.’.

“Welcome home, Ku! We’re having pork cutlets for dinner!” says Saiki’s mom while ignoring her peeved husband, “Stop ignoring me!” exclaims the peeved husband “And we are supposed to have steak today!. Mrs. Saiki replies with “Oh, is that so? So sorry! How about I fix you a leather shoe?” while smiling.

Everyone was stunned silent. “They’re not like that now, are they?” says Yumehara hesitantly, turning towards Saiki, he just shakes his head, ‘Not even close. They’re back to their overly affectionate selves, don’t worry about them.’. They all sigh in relief and turn back to the screen.

As his parents continue to argue in the background we return to Kusuo, ‘I wonder where it all went wrong.’. We see a small flashback of his parents, “Your love makes me high like Tokyo Tower!” “I love you more than anyone in the world.” “Oh, you…”, ‘They used to be so lovey-dovey.’ thinks Saiki. The hand holding couple is replaced with them holding each other by their shirt collars, “You make me want to push you off the Tokyo Skytree!” “I hate you more than anyone in the universe!” “You little…”. The focus is put back on Saiki, ‘Well, I guess you could say they’re still passionate about each other.'.

“But wow, that contrast is jarring, huh.” comments Kuboyasu, “Those are both extreme displays, just on complete opposite ends of the scale.” says Kaido with a light chuckle.
