Work Text:

He could feel the blood gushing out of his abdomen at an alarming rate. He managed to take down the last villain but an unexpected explosion rocked the factory off its foundation. Concrete was stacked upon him crushing his ribs and making him gasp for air. It was just supposed to be a quick recovery mission. Get in, get the info, then leave. Why did everything have to go so wrong?

His vision was swarming and he knew paramedics weren't going to make it there on time. The factory was in a desolate part of town, at least forty minutes away from the nearest hospital. All the villains were unconscious under the rubble and even if he did have the energy to yell for help no one would hear him. Death was inevitable.

Silent tears made their way down his cheeks at the realization. He was just a twenty-one year old hero just making a name for himself. Chargebolt was finally making it into news headlines and topping all of the hero charts. He was projected to be within the Top 20’s within the year and in the Top 10’s within the next two. All of his friends were finally able to hangout more often after getting the gist of what it meant to be a hero. All his friends finally opened an agency together. Why did everything have to go so wrong?

Everything felt heavy as he waited for death to approach. He remembered the last time he talked to any of his friends. Him, Uraraka, and Hagakure just finished eating at a diner near the agency. They were both leaving on an undercover mission in America that morning so he wanted to treat them both to one more big meal before they caught their flight. Both of them seemed relatively grateful for the kind gesture and Hagakure even tried to pay him back but he refused. After they both left he headed to the agency to get ready for his own undercover mission.

Even though it was late the agency was buzzing. Apparently there was a recent attack in downtown Musutafu so while half of the heroes left to deal with the villains the other half stayed to handle the paperwork, phone calls, etc… Needless to say everyone was stacked with work. Deciding against distracting anyone from their job he grabbed his gear and quickly left the building. If only he knew that was the last time he’d be in the agency. Would he have done anything differently? Would he have splurged on Hagakure and Uraraka a little more? Would he have said goodbye to anyone?

A buzz from his back pocket startled him out of his thoughts. His phone. He knew he didn't have much time left. He definitely didn't have enough time to be saved. But if he could just properly say goodbye to one person that would be enough.

The rubble surrounding him was tight but not tight enough that he couldn’t snake his arm down his leg and grasp his phone. He shakily brought the phone to his face and winced at the bright light while his eyes attempted to focus on the task at hand. He put in his passcode and clicked on the first contact that appeared.

“Hello this is The Golden Age Hero Agency. Please hold and a hero will be right with you shortly.”

Before he could say anything the pre-recorded message they all pitched in on began to play. He remembered how hard it was to get Iida to voice the message but after enough begging from him and Midoriya he reluctantly agreed.

Thank you for calling The Golden Age Hero Agency! Your call is very important to us so please stay on the line and if this call is an emergency either dial 119 or head to your nearest emergency facility.

Sighing to himself, he came to a realization that no one was going to pick up the phone any time soon. He could just hang up and call someone's personal phone but it’s a guarantee that they wouldn’t answer since everyone was so busy at the moment. Hagakure and Uraraka would probably answer but they were most likely already sleeping by now and he didn't want to stress them out the day before a big mission.

At The Golden Age Agency we have many Heroes dedicated to bringing you your peace of mind. Heroes like Deku, Ground Zero, and Shouto work tirelessly to keep Japan safe.

He wondered how they were doing right now. They obviously weren't currently at the agency since they are the number one, two, and three heroes respectively. But he wondered if they were okay. Midoriya had indeed been working tirelessly and hadn't taken time off to himself in a while. In fact the last time he saw Midoriya relax was a week ago when they both happened to go to the same cat cafe for some morning coffee. Although it was mainly Bakugou who forced Midoriya to take some time off, the dude seemed like he was having a nice time. They did share some small talk while petting the cats before Kaminari had to leave for patrol.

Both Bakugou and Todoroki seemed to go on missions and patrol together a lot. Everyone in the class noticed them getting closer to each other after the whole ordeal with Shigaraki all those years ago. Todoroki appeared to mellow Bakugou out which came as a surprise to everyone. Even when they graduated Bakugou didn't even really rave about how he’s going to be the number one hero and top Midoriya. Todoroki also looked like he had gotten over his issues with his family and his awkward teen phase. He learned how to better interact with people which could be in part thanks to Bakugou who would begrudgingly invite him to any hangouts. Kaminari was glad he could see all three of them learn and grow from each other.

Not only do we have the Number One, Two, and Three Heroes but we also house the best Rescue Heroes such as Cellophane, Froppy, Pinky, and Uravity!

He wondered when Sero would realize he wasn’t coming back to the apartment. When the two boys graduated they decided to pool their finances and share an apartment together. It made it easier on both of them since neither knew the basics of paying rent, financing, or even doing taxes. They were both pretty happy in the shared apartment which was a shame since he knew he’d never get to come home to seeing Sero passed out on the couch while some random nature documentary blared on the television. The last time he ever saw the boy was when he was leaving for patrol that morning. They were both chowing down on some cheap, stale cereal Sero found in the discount aisle while talking about whatever came to mind. At one point Kaminari realized he was twenty minutes late and had to rush out of the apartment ushering a quick goodbye to Sero.

On the way to his usual patrol route he remembered seeing Tsuyu helping a little girl get their cat out of a tree. He was never that close to Tsuyu but he did consider them friends. Although they never really hungout one on one he did see and talk to her if they had hero work together or if there ever was a hangout with their friends. There was this one time that he’ll never forget when Tsuyu actually agreed to his and Sero’s plan to prank Bakugou. Even though it was mainly Uraraka that convinced her to agree he couldn’t have been happier with the results of Bakugou coming out of his office screaming about how all of his things were taped to the ceiling. He began to laugh at the thought but winced when the pain in his stomach spiked at the sudden movement.

He really wishes he asked Ashido to come on this mission with him. If she did, she could have just melted the rubble around him and he’d be on his way to the hospital. She would’ve probably worried over him the entire night, harassing the nurses to visit his room until they finally relented, then tell him off for how stupid he was for going on this mission alone. After the whole fight with Shigaraki, she began to grow even more protective of all of her friends. She always insisted on going places with them and she probably would have followed him here if the agency wasn’t so busy tonight. He’d be lying if he said he wouldn't miss her protective personality.

And let's not forget our great Stealth Heroes such as Earphone Jack, Tsukoyomi, and Invisible Girl!

Jirou would probably be the first one to notice that he was gone. After all he did promise to help her with a song she was planning on writing that night. They often did that after graduation. Since Jirou lived in Yaoyorozu’s place which was halfway across the city, the pair often found it hard to go out together when they weren’t on the clock. So they usually stayed at each other's places overnight, writing songs, doing nails, jamming out, and watching all of the bad movies they could get their hands on. Occasionally they would even invite Tokoyami who, because of his nightly patrol schedule, didn’t really see his friends often. They would all just spend the entire night jamming and writing. At times it almost felt like he was back at UA, practicing for the Cultural Festival with the A-Band.

Everyone at The Golden Age Agency went to the fantastic school of UA whose job is to shape the heroes of the future into hardworking individuals who work with one goal in mind... To save the public no matter the cost!

He wonders if the people he’s saved will remember him. Over his measly three years of officially being a pro hero he has saved so many people from disasters, attacks, and accidents. There was this one family he saved that he’ll never forget. The family of three had just gotten into a car accident. They had a daughter who made it out of the car on time but the mother and father were still stuck inside. He immediately rushed into the scene taking out both parents before the car was engulfed in flames. Paramedics arrived and took care of the parents while Kaminari took it upon himself to talk to the girl in order to distract her from everything happening. They talked about everything from Pokemon to the newest video games. Eventually the little girl had to leave in a police car taking her to the same hospital her parents were in. Kaminari was sure that was the last he’d see of her until one week later when the girl showed up at the agency, completely alone, asking the receptionist for one Chargebolt.

The girl's eyes widened when she saw Chargebolt and she walked towards the hero. In her hands was a letter addressed to him. He’s read over that letter countless times after receiving it and to this day that letter is still hung up in his office as a reminder of why he does what he does.

If you are attending a hero school feel free to intern for us. Heroes like Red Riot, Creati, and Chargebolt are great at passing on our collective pro hero experiences to heroes-in-training who are willing to learn. So come to The Golden Age Agency...

After opening the agency, Kirishima, Yaoyorozu, and him were selected as the designated “teachers” which meant they showed the ropes to interns and new sidekicks. It was exhilarating, working with some of the hero students and seeing how they grew and changed over the course of the internship. Although he will admit that his methods of teaching were a little unorthodox compared to the others and had gotten him in trouble on several occasions. One time, there was a student from Shiketsu High who had a mutant quirk which gave them octopus arms stemming from their back. Kaminari decided to test the limits of the intern’s abilities by seeing how many plates of food they could serve within a certain time limit without using their hands. He was reprimanded pretty hard by Iida for using the intern as a “personal servant” however there was a very noticeable improvement in that student’s abilities after that day so he considered it a win. The intern also got a kick out of it after they heard about Kaminari’s scolding by a certain gossiper.

It was little things like that, that reminded him of all the progress he’s made at the agency. The many students he’s taught, the people he’s saved, and all the friends he’s made. They’ve all made so much progress, both in their hero and personal lives, and he’s content he was able to help them get to that point.

A very small part of him is scared of the unknown and what lies ahead but a much bigger part is proud of the legacy he’s created and glad that he got to live out his dreams with the people he loved even if it was for a short time. He’s glad he got to see them all grow and change for the better and that he got to be a part of that.

The more he thought about it the more he realized that maybe dying wouldn’t be so bad after all. They’re going to be just fine without him. Slowly, he let his eyes drift close as his phone fell from his grasp, clattering on the concrete floor.

...and we’ll show you what it means to be a hero!

Notes:

I promise I do actually love Kaminari but the urge for angst hits at strange times. Please feel free to comment and leave a kudos they are my main motivation to keep writing! Until next time ;)
