Chapter Text
Shinsou watched his classmates gather their families in the common room, all happy and excited. He couldn’t help but feel both envious and happy for them. They all had families who loved and cared about them. Even some of the Todoroki’s were there, Natsuo and Fuyumi. They all had families who excepted them, quirk and all. Shinsou left to grab a cup of water, returning to his spot on one of the couches soon after. He had come to know the class enough to realize that they all had their flaws and weren’t stuck up perf-quirked assholes. It still didn’t stop the pain of seeing them all happy with their parents and siblings though, the only one who’s parents weren’t there besides him being Midoriya, and that’s because his mom was stuck in traffic and was just a little late. When she did arrive though, he did not expect the series of events that arrived right after.
Aizawa watched over his kids students and their families fondly. There were some that worried him a bit though.
Shinsou was a given, abandoned by his parents because of his quirk at a young age, forced to watch as everyone else laughed and talked with theirs.
The other was, both surprisingly and unsurprisingly, Midoriya. He could see the anxiety in Problem Child’s movement clearly. He was always slightly anxious, what the reason was was unknown to Aizawa. But today was different. It was amplified. By a lot. Just like when he had visited the Midoriya’s home with Yagi to ask Mrs. Midoriya about the dorms (Yes I changed it so that Aizawa went with him, so what?). That day Aizawa had chalked it up to having two Pro-heroes that were also his teachers in his home. Now, Aizawa wasn’t too sure. Was the anxiety actually caused by being around his mother? If so, why? She seemed like a very doting mom, and there was nothing to show that she had been abusing her son or anything of the like. But why did Midoriya act like anything he did would prompt at the very least a strict lecture from his mom? Aizawa would later find the reason to be much more unpleasant than he hoped.
Midoriya was nervous. Really nervous. He loved his mother, he really did, there wasn’t a reason not to. Except, well, maybe that she had practically ignored his existence except to reprimand him from the day his father left until he gained his quirk from All Might. But it’s fine. He’s fine, she’s fine, everything is fine. He was excited to show her how he had improved, to prove to her that he could be a hero. And he was determined. He had a goal. To hear her say it. The one phrase he had been longing to hear from her all his life. And he was going to show her that she would never need to ignore him ever again. Midoriya was ready.
Midoriya was not ready. The moment she stepped into the building he was ready. Ready to show her, to prove to her that he could be a hero. He was not ready for the man who walked into the building after her.
Midoriya Hisashi.
Midoriya’s absolutely wonderful, piece of scum father.
“Mom,” he said, “why is He here?” Midoriya sent a small glance at Hisashi, not a glare, but anyone who knew him well enough could see the bubbling rage in his eyes, could hear it in his voice.
“Surprise! He came back! Isn’t it wonderful Izuku? Your father saw the sports festival and gave me a call, and we’ve been talking ever since! This week he finally came back from America to see us again!”
“Hey little man! How’s school been? I know we haven’t talked in a while, so I thought I’d stop by with Inko to see how my son is-”
“Do not call me son.”
It was said quietly, so that no one else in the room heard, but it was said with such venom that shocked both of the adults and caused them both to falter, not expecting that response.
Inko was the first to say something, “Izuku, that is no way to talk to your-”
“Father? That bastard is not my father. Did you forget that he abandoned us the moment the doctor uttered the word quirkless? Did you forget how he refused to send child support, forcing you to take on multiple jobs by yourself? Did you seriously think I would allow him back into my life now that I have a quirk?”
Both adults stayed quiet at that. Mido- Izuku stepped past them outside, trying to calm himself down.
What the fuck just happened? One moment, Shinsou is brooding by himself against the wall, having left the couch because of all the feelings watching his classmates interacting with their families caused, the next he was watching Midoriya stomp outside past his parents, looking like he was about to commit a murder.
Not only had Shinsou seen the exchange, but he had heard it too. Quirkless? He had not expected that. It sounded like Midoriya’s quirk had come in late, but just how late?
Shinsou noticed Midoriya’s parents following him outside and decided to follow. As he made his way to the door he locked eyes with Aizawa-sensei, who was also making his way to the door. The followed the Midoriya family out together, trying to get to the bottom of whatever the fuck was going on.
Fuck. That’s all Aizawa could think. Midoriya’s quirk coming in late explained so much. His lack of control to the point of breaking his bones finally made sense. The man had thought the kid had been lazy as a child, not training his quirk at all, which he thought was odd since that didn’t seem like the type of person Midoriya was. Considering the state Midoriya was in when he first started at UA, Aizawa felt it was safe to assume that the Problem Child didn’t learn his quirk until right before the UA entrance exam. That may have been the first time the kid ever used his quirk. The fact that the Rat Bastard had probably known that and hadn’t told Aizawa, frustrated him greatly. It would’ve been easier to help the kid if Aizawa knew what was going on.
Another thing that made sense was the Problem Child’s lack of trust amongst other potential mental problems. The kid had grown up quirkless. Aizawa had talked quite a few people who were quirkless down from roofs of buildings. He knew just how bad they had it. It also made Bakugou’s statement earlier in the year make sense. Dammit. What had seemed like a petty rivalry between the boys was likely not that. It was likely bully and victim. While Bakugou had certainly gotten better, if Aizawa’s hunch was correct, the kid would be attending anger management therapy along with regular therapy (all his kids needed therapy, Aizawa was working with Nedzu to make it mandatory for the entire hero course). First thing’s first though, calm the Problem Child down and get his family to leave. Aizawa wanted to take care of this without making a scene, but it seemed that Shinsou had heard the conversation too. Aizawa had half a mind to make him stay, but didn’t when he realized that Shinsou might be helpful in calming Midoriya down and/or getting the parents to leave, so they followed the group outside together.
