Summary
Robby didn’t take the bait, “I want you to stop pretending you’re fine when you clearly aren’t.”
That landed harder than Dennis expected. He didn’t respond right away, mostly because he didn’t have a good comeback for that one. And because the way Robby said it, low and direct and looking right at him, did something irritating to Dennis’s pulse.
Dennis huffed softly but didn’t fight him, mostly because the dizziness still hadn’t completely settled, a clear indication of head trauma, and the idea of moving too quickly sounded like a terrible plan. He tried to sit still while Robby worked, though the close proximity made him uncomfortably aware of just how serious Robby suddenly looked. Did he always look this way during cases? Robby was close enough that Dennis could feel the faint warmth of him, could smell the mix of leather. And for one brief absurd second Dennis wondered if he was imagining how close Robby actually was.
Or

Summary
“Holy shit,” Santos says. “There’s a baby priest in triage.”
-
Dennis Whitaker, in his last year of seminary, is delighted to be assigned to a rectory in Pittsburgh, and to the hospital chaplaincy that comes along with it. Finally, he's out into the world, where he can be of real use. Less welcome is Doctor Robinavitch, the senior attending of the ER, who seems to resent Whitaker's presence to the point of deliberate avoidance, even though the man is coming apart at the seams and could clearly use a friendly ear. Still, Whitaker is certain he'll find a way to get through to him, and make the most of the last twelve months before he's ordained.
It's just that lately he's started to have the strangest dreams.
Or: Dennis Whitaker and Michael Robinavitch's lovestruck, sacrilegious year of magical thinking.
