Work Header

you're so cute*

Summary:

Megumi squints his eyes as he reads the text, do I think what? Confusion washes over him as he tries to think about what Yuji was referring to. He rereads the texts and feels the horror sink in as he realises. He just accidentally called him cute. Yuji thinks he called him cute. Megumi stares at his phone for a beat and wonders how he's going to explain himself out of this. Because it's not like he was lying, Yuji was definitely cute, - objectively so - he was probably one of the cutest people Megumi's ever seen. From his youthful features, to his inviting smile, his warm and loving 'best friend energy', and his shockingly toned body, he was downright beautiful in every aspect, really.

or AU in which a typo leads to a confession.

Notes:

hii so this is based on a tweet i saw that's like

"person texted me once saying "your cute", and i replied saying "no, YOU'RE cute"
so now we're dating. we've been on six dates. all i did was point out their grammar"

I don't know who the OG person that made this is because I've seen it around twitter with like every pairing but credit to them!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Megumi's face turns as he spots the red pepper in his ramen, his nose scrunching as he picks up a piece of it with his chopsticks and drops it onto the napkin. He clicks his tongue as he continues his fight against them, swirling his chopsticks around in broth in an attempt to find any more, the displeasure growing whenever he does.

"Who even puts red peppers in ramen?" Megumi mutters under his breath, picking up another piece and dropping it onto the same napkin. Upon hearing Yuji's laugh, he looks up to face the boy sitting across from him.

"Here," Yuji says as he offers him a small plate, "put them here, you big baby." Megumi rolls his eyes as he tries to defend himself he is not a baby, red peppers are just gross.

Yuji looks at him and laughs as he continues to take his time picking out the pieces of pepper. Despite the situation's level of annoyance, Megumi smiles at the sound.

The two walk home together after they finish eating. When they reach Yuji's house the boy gives Megumi a tight hug and a text me when you get home. Despite the walk being only ten minutes away from Yuji's house, Megumi can't help but feel warm knowing that he cared enough to want to make sure Megumi made it home safe, the thought of it sent jolts of adoration to Megumi's heart.

Megumi lays awake in bed later that night, tossing and turning as he tries to force himself to sleep. Only to be drawn to the sound of his phone vibrating on his table. Megumi grabs and unlocks it to see a text from Yuji, a soft smile appears on his face naturally as he reads it to himself.

itadori

lmao I keep thinking about that waitress from today

she hated you so much for making a mess of those napkins 😂😂

Megumi scoffs as he reads the text, recalling the memory from earlier of their waitress coming by and scolding him for picking out the red peppers in his dish. He recalls how unbelievably unhelpful Yuji was in that situation, the boy just sitting across from him all bright-eyed, firm shoulders softly shaking as he tries not to laugh at his friend getting reprimanded.

fushiguro

That wasn't my fault!

The menu did not say it had red peppers in it.

I could've had an anaphylactic reaction to them, Itadori. I could've died.

itadori

lol so dramatic 💀😂

your so cute fushiguro 😊

Megumi feels the heat rise to his cheeks almost instantaneously as he reads the text over, cute?  Megumi can't help the smile that creeps onto his face as he rereads the text, all while desperately trying to ignore his newfound rapid heartbeat. Megumi rereads the text and feels his eyes narrow, his bottom lip slides between his teeth as he quickly realises the error in the other's message. Megumi pauses as he weighs his options, he could just send a text back and leave it alone, or he could be annoying and point out the typo. Megumi exhales as he quickly types back a response.

fushiguro

YOU'RE so cute*

itadori

???

me??

you really think so? 😳

Megumi squints his eyes as he reads the text, do I think what?  Confusion washes over him as he tries to think about what Yuji was referring to. Megumi reads the text again and feels the horror sink in when he realises what Yuji meant. He just accidentally called him cute. Yuji thinks he called him cute. Megumi stares at his phone for a beat and wonders how he's going to explain himself out of this. Because it's not like he was lying, Yuji was definitely cute, he thinks - objectively so - he was probably one of the cutest people Megumi's ever seen. From his youthful features, to his inviting smile, his warm and loving 'best friend energy', and his shockingly toned body, he was downright beautiful in every aspect, really.

fushiguro

Yeah, Itadori.

Of course.

Megumi cringes to himself after sending the message, he definitely should've just joked himself out of it.

itadori

oh

oh? Oh?  Megumi feels his heart stop at the short response. The regret pours into him when he realises that Yuji was just poking fun at him and his misfortune from earlier, and that he didn't really mean anything by calling him cute, and now Megumi was here all bleeding heart over text.

itadori

well thanks fushiguro 😊

Megumi sighs as he can't help but feel a sense of rejection at the text, even though it wasn't really a confession to begin with. It wasn't, right?  He shuts his eyes tightly as he tries to will away the sense of embarrassment that washes over him.

itadori

well since you said that i was wondering if maybe you'd want to get coffee or something with me?

maybe?

only if you want of course!!

you don't have to!!

no pressure!!! 😊

Megumi feels himself flush at the hoard of texts that come through his phone, each one feeling like a punch to his heart. What have I done?  echos in his mind as he reads the texts over and pause - Did Yuji just ask me on a date? Megumi stares at his phone as he chews on his bottom lip, he types out a message, only to roll his eyes at himself and promptly erase it. Megumi lets out a frustrated sign as he places his phone on his chest, continuing the assault on his bottom lip as he tries to think of a response. Should it play it flirty? he wonders. How would he even do that? Megumi taps his fingers along the back of his phone as his mind runs rampant trying to think of a way to respond, causal? cute? should he just not go? No - he wanted to go, of course, he wanted to go. Even though the thought of going on a date with Yuji sounded more than ideal to him, there was a part of him that was completely terrified to admit it. Yuji was his best friend, and even though they both just accidentally confessed their feelings for each other - oh god, did I just accidentally confess my feelings? There was something in the back of his mind that couldn't help but wonder if this was a dangerous road to go down. Megumi squeezes his eyes shut in an attempt to shut off his thoughts, but the attempt proves futile when his mind seems to only be able to think of one person. Megumi reluctantly opens his eyes again and feels an ache in his chest as he longs for what he could have Yuji. With another sigh, he hesitantly picks up his phone again and types out a message, he wraps his hopes up with it and presses enter.

fushiguro

Yeah. Is ten okay?

itadori

ten is good 😀

see you tomorrow!! 😀😀

A faint smile spreads across his face as he places his phone back on the table. He can do this. It's just a date. It's just a date with his best friend.

Megumi wakes up the next morning and feels the nerves shoot through him almost instantly, checking his phone he sees the large bright 8:00 am staring back at him. He hops in the shower before he gets ready, taking extra time to fix up his hair and find a suitable outfit to wear.

The walk to the cafe was short, but Megumi felt as if he's been walking for years as he drags his feet towards the entrance. Taking a deep breath, he opens the door to the cafe, glancing around as he looks for an empty table, only to spot Yuji sitting by one at the table.

"You're here already?" Megumi asks, stealing a look at the clock behind Yuji to make sure he wasn't late. He sighed a breath of relief when he realised that he was in fact seven minutes early.

"Yeah, I - I came a bit early, I wanted to make sure we got a table," Yuji admits, leaving out the part where he got here an extra thirty minutes early because he was so nervous. "I already ordered for you, if that's okay?" Yuji says, slightly pushing the ceramic glass towards the other. Megumi smiles as he looks down at what he assumed to be tea.

"That's okay. Thanks, Itadori." Megumi takes a sip of the tea, the corners of his lips pulling upwards when he realised it was his favourite.

His eyes meet Yuji's and the others dart away from his almost as quickly as they met. Megumi smiles at the blush he sees creeping up the other's neck. He decides not to say anything.

"You, uh, look good, by the way." Yuji compliments.

"So do you." Megumi replies honestly, and even though he came in one of his signature hoodies, he still looked good. Of course, he did, he always did.

The date was filled with a comfortable awkwardness, the two feeling mutually nervous, but comfortable in each other's company. They end up walking home together after they share a piece of cake, small conversations filling the silence of the walk.

"Thanks for today." Megumi says as he watches the other shove his hands into his pockets to avoid the chilliness.

"Yeah, of course, thanks too." Yuji replies, his eyes lighting up as he sends Megumi a smile. Yuji hesitantly reaches out and pulls his friend into a hug, and Megumi is sure that Yuji can feel the beat of his own heart against his chest. Megumi wraps his around Yuji in response, and it feels different this time, it feels more intimate. The two pull away and Megumi fondly smiles when he notices the other's dusted pink cheeks.

Yuji smiles as he sends him off, telling him to get home safe in the process. Megumi assures him he will as he turns around to continue the rest of his walk, his heart feeling light the whole way home.

Megumi gets out of the shower later that night and checks his phone to see that he has three unread text messages, the nerves shoot through him when he sees Yuji's name light up across his screen. Megumi plops himself on his bed, letting himself find a comfortable position before he unlocks his phone.

itadori

hey 😀

i had fun today thank you for coming with me

we should do it again sometime... if you want

fushiguro

Me too, Itadori.

We should definitely.

Megumi places the phone on his chest, closing his eyes he smiles to himself as he replays the date in his mind. From the way Yuji smiled widely behind his cup of coffee, to how he shined even brighter than Megumi thought was possible under the cheap fluorescent lights, to Yuji coming back with one piece of cake and two forks because 'it's cute to share', the matching pink tints that painted both of their faces the whole day. Megumi feels his heart fill to the brim with joy before he falls asleep that night.

The next date comes a little over a week after the coffee date. Megumi knew it wasn't that long of a wait, but every day that passed was filled with wanting to spend it with Yuji.

"Here's your drink, I got yo-" Megumi offers, and he swears time, and his heart stops when he hears the sound of Yuji screech, the chair against the floor matching the same noise from the boy. "Jesus, I am so sorry," Megumi apologies as he rushes to grab napkins, throwing a handful of them towards Yuji as he quickly tries to clean up the mess he's just made.

"It's - it's okay, Fushiguro." Yuji stammers out as he attempts to clean up the drinks that spilled on him. Megumi looks back at him sympathetically, frowning at his brand new hoodie that was now stained with two cups of iced coffee.

"I'm sorry, Itadori." He repeats as he continues to clean off the table, the now soaked boy across from him assuring him it was fine.

The two end up leaving the coffee shop quickly after that, half out of embarrassment and half out of the fact Megumi spent the last of his money on those drinks. They raised their prices, he thinks bitterly to himself. They end up walking aimlessly until they find a park, Yuji grabbing Megumi's arm in excitement when he sees the swingset, promptly dragging his friend over. The two find their place on a pair of swingsets, letting the rusty noise of the chains and comfortable chatter fill the silence in the otherwise silent night.

"I'm really sorry about earlier, Itadori." Megumi apologises again, cringing to himself as he relives the embarrassment of dropping the drinks all over the other.

Yuji laughs before responding, "It's seriously fine, Fushiguro." the boy wiping his hand across his chest, "I'm all dry now!" He affirms.

"It's - it's just our second da -, you know, I'm sorry it didn't go well." Megumi admits, he did feel really sorry about it, he wanted the date to be perfect, he wanted it to match up to the one Yuji previously took him on, but when it came down to it, his nerves won him over. Megumi couldn't help the creeping feeling that this incident was going to make Yuji realise that they're better off as just friends, and the first date was a fluke.

"It's okay, it was kind of funny," Yuji laughs to himself, causing Megumi to turn and gape at him. "I'm just sitting there, waiting for my drink, and you come over and just throw them at me." Yuji explains as he rocks back and forth on the swing.

"It was an accident!" Megumi protests, but the disagreement just makes Yuji laugh harder. Megumi tries to feign annoyance, but he can't help but smile when he sees the way Yuji's eyes light up as he laughs.

The two end up staying at the park for a few more hours, filling the time with comfortable chatter, and competitions of who can swing the highest.

"C'mon, we should - we should head home." Yuji suggests when he notices how dark it's getting. Megumi reluctantly agrees and they leave the park and head towards their homes.

Megumi feels his heart skip a beat each time he can feel Yuji's arm brush against his as they walk together. Looking down, he stares at his friend's hand that swings between them, Megumi swallows the nerves that bubble in his throat as he extends his fingers in an attempt to hold the other's hands, letting out a sigh when he ultimately can't do it.

"Well, I'll see you soon hopefully." Yuji says when they reach the entrance of his home, "well - school, I'll see you at school. And probably after school, but - I -" he stammers, Yuji stops himself and Megumi notices the way his skin flushes red as he attempts to get the words out. "I hope to - see you like this, again, soon." Yuji finishes, Megumi feels a smile spread across his face as he nods and agrees.

"Goodnight, Fushiguro." Yuji says, as he turns around and heads into his apartment.

"Goodnight, Itadori." Megumi repeats, watching on as Yuji waves and walks into the building.

Megumi wasn't one to believe in signs, but as of right now, he was sure this was one from God or something. It wasn't his fault this time, he thinks, but the third date somehow started even worse than the second one. At least he learned two things. First, he's allergic to cats. Second, he really loves the way Yuji's hands feel on his.

"I didn't know you were allergic! I'm so sorry!" Yuji says in a panic as he walks with Megumi into the waiting room of the clinic, the boy softly picking cat hair off of him. Megumi tries his best to smile at the other, promptly ignoring the way every inch of his skin needed to be scratched.

"It's fine, Yuji. It's just a minor reaction." Megumi lies in an attempt to calm the other down, he makes a futile attempt to pull his sleeves down so the other can't see the hives that he's sure are forming on his skin right now. And even though he was having an allergic reaction, he was far more focused on the feeling of Yuji's hand on top of his, and the way he was rubbing comforting circles onto it.

Megumi gets thrown into a room alone moments later, the doctor promptly telling him information that he really only half listens to. The woman suddenly pulls out medication and a pamphlet and Megumi accepts them with a smile as he makes his way out of the room.

The two leave the clinic right after, joined by the company of the multiple chocolate bars and snacks Yuji stress bought while in the waiting room.

"I'm sorry again, you - you have two dogs so I just assumed you wouldn't be allergic to cats." Yuji explains as he rubs his hands together. "This was such a bad date." Yuji mutters as his hands cup his face. Megumi feels guilty as the boy places all the blame on himself.

"It's fine, Itadori. I had fun." Megumi admits, he breaks off a piece of the chocolate bar he was holding and hands it the other, Yuji slightly scoffing at his response before looking over to him.

"You don't have to lie to me, Fushiguro." Yuji replies as he grabs the piece of chocolate Megumi was offering, his lips pulling upwards as their fingers brush at the action.

"I'm not. It was fun because - I was with you." Megumi admits, he looks down at the pavement when he feels his face get warm at the confession.

"Eh? You can't just say stuff like that, Fushiguro!" Yuji whines, playfully jabbing his elbow into Megumi's side in the process. Megumi just laughing at the other's childish response.

"I was being honest!" Megumi admits, and Yuji just smiles at him. They spend the rest of their walk in a relaxed silence, and the sound of the leaves crunching under their shoes.

The fourth date was his favourite by far, he thinks.

"You look good." Yuji compliments upon seeing the boy. Despite the numerous amount of compliments Yuji has given him when they were just friends, and now that they're - whatever they are now, it still makes Megumi's heart feel warm.

"Thanks, Itadori. You do, too." He replies honestly.

"I got the drinks this time. No offence, Fushiguro, but I don't trust you with them anymore." Yuji laughs as he pushes a cup toward Megumi. The latter rolling his eyes to the light-haired boys teasing.

Megumi plays around with the spoon in his drink, spinning the liquid around mindlessly as he tries to think of something to say. He suddenly feels tense when he realises there's a pair of eyes on him.

"What's wrong?" Megumi asks when he notices Yuji staring at him. The other blinks himself back into reality upon hearing the other's question, the colour red rising from his neck to his cheeks.

"Uh - nothing, sorry." Yuji apologies, a beat passes and he opens his mouth to speak again, only to close it shortly after. Yuji looks up at Megumi and offers him a smile before saying, "I'm - I'm just really happy."

Megumi exhales as he feels a million little fireworks explode throughout his body, "Yeah, me too, Itadori." Megumi admits.

That's the thing with Yuji, he thinks. Happiness. Even in the most embarrassing of times, Megumi's heart has never felt anything short of pure euphoria when he was with him.

Megumi looks to Yuji, who was now biting into a cookie, he watches the way the crumbs all fall over the boy's sweater, hearing him promptly make a disproving noise as he wipes them off. Yuji looks up and his eyes find Megumi's, his lips curling when he realises he got caught making a mess. Megumi laughs. He was happy, he was so happy.

Megumi lets his fingers find their place in Yuji's as they leave, keeping his eyes locked on his shoes when he sees the shocked look from the other out of the corner of his eye. They end walking the whole way home hand in hand that night, both of them pretending not to notice how sweaty the other's hand is.

"Thanks for walking me home again, Fushiguro." Yuji says as he gives Megumi's hand a slight squeeze.

"Of course." Megumi simply replies, his eyes meet with Yuji's and the two hold eye contact, until Yuji darts his tongue across his lips, Megumi's eyes casting downwards almost instinctively. When Megumi lets his eyes find Yuji's again, the latter looks away, the apples of his cheek a now red colour.

"I - I'll go." Yuji says, pointing towards his apartment, he pulls his hand away gently from Megumi's before smiling goodbye at him, Megumi frowns at the regret he sees flash through the other's eyes.

"Have a good night, Itadori." Megumi says, watching the other make his way into the apartment. Yuji turns back around to look at him, offering him a smile and a wave before he disappears into the building.

Megumi sighs as he turns around and heads on the rest of his walk, he kicks the rocks on the ground underneath him as he tries to push down the regret that's rapidly filling him. I had a chance, I could've kissed him. He thinks to himself as his mind replays the moment from minutes earlier, he sighs again as he lets his hand run through his erratic hair.

Megumi makes it home and heads straight for his bed. He plops his body on it as he pulls his phone out and opens the first text conversation.

fushiguro

just got home

goodnight itadori

Megumi rereads it and cringes inwardly at the dryness of the text, a part of wishes that he was more like Yuji, more outward with his feelings, but a part of him was still embarrassed, still too nervous to be like this with him.

itadori

goodnight fushiguro 😴💗

Megumi smiles at the text that comes across his screen, he pulls his bottom lip between his teeth and chews on it before typing out a message, staring at the screen he lets out a puff of air before he hits send, promptly locking his phone.

"Are you and Itadori - you know." Nobara asks him one day, giving him a pointed look in the process.

"Kind of? We've been on a couple of dates." Megumi answers honestly, he rubs the back of his neck, suddenly feeling sheepish as he answers the question.

"That's cute," Nobara replies, popping a piece of popcorn into her mouth, "so, who confessed first?" she presses.

Megumi pulls his lips into a thin line, technically he did, he thinks. "Me, I guess."

"What do you mean I guess?" She asks, her eyes narrowing.

"I confessed by accident."

"You what?" Nobara asks, her head darting towards the direction of Megumi, the boy feeling pressured under her sudden heated gaze.

"He said your cute, like y-o-u-r." Megumi explains, "and I corrected him saying you're cute, but he took that as me telling him I feel the same way." Megumi feels the embarrassment he felt that day creep back into him as he recalls his accidental confession.

"Which you do, I'm assuming?" Nobara asks, and Megumi notices the sudden protective edge in her voice.

"Yeah, I do." Megumi admits, his mind thinking of the boy in question. "I really do."

"Does he know?" The girl asks, and Megumi bites his lip. Does he know? He knows, right? Megumi sits there and ponders the question for a moment. No, he knows. He has to know.

"Well, we've been on like, six dates, I hope he would." The thoughts continue to cloud Megumi's mind, we've been on six dates, he must know. Megumi continues to gnaw on his lip as he thinks about it, and a part of him suddenly feels guilty knowing he's gone on six dates with Yuji and has never really spoken about his true feelings for the boy.

"Six? " Nobara repeats back in disbelief, "You have to tell him, Fushiguro. Like, straight-up tell him."

"That's so embarrassing, Kugisaki. I can't do that."

"Why not? You basically already did!"

"I already said it was an accident, I wasn't really thinking. And it's - it's too scary in person. It's too real." Megumi admits honestly. And the fear from the day he first confessed comes back and haunts him. Yuji was his best friend, he was his person, and even though he was almost positive Yuji felt the same way he did, it was still too scary to blatantly admit that he had feelings for him, especially to him.

Nobara sends him a sympathetic smile when she realises his worries about telling the other boy. "Still, relationship stuff should not be done over the phone, Fushiguro. Did you not learn anything from Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas or like any movie ever?"

"What? What does that even mean?"

Nobara just brushes him off, "listen, next date just tell him. He obviously likes you, Fushiguro. And even if things do go sour, it's Itadori, I don't think he's emotionally capable of hating someone."

"Yeah, yeah, you're right." He admits, and it's true, even if Yuji did end up rejecting him it's not like anything bad would happen between them. Because he knew Yuji, he knew he was too kind to intentionally hurt him. And besides, Megumi was mature, Megumi could handle the heartbreak that would surely follow if that happened. But still, there was a gnawing feeling in his heart that begged him to keep the secret locked away, despite him wanting to desperately tell Yuji how much he truly liked him.

"Of course, I am. Now go confess, I'm tired of hearing you emotionally blue balling yourself."

After the conversation with Nobara, and the nagging that followed it, Megumi decides to texts Yuji three days later and ask him if he could come over. As he waits for the boy, he mutters the words he's planned on saying under his breath as he paces around the room. As if on cue, the knocking on the door suddenly sends him out of his thoughts. Megumi makes his way downstairs and opens the door, his plan quickly dissolving when he sees Yuji standing in front of him wearing his yellow hoodie, and a beaming smile. The bag of snacks in his ruffling as he raises his arm to wave.

Megumi invites Yuji in and the two make their way to his room, Yuji almost instantly going on a tangent about some foreign movie that he just watched, explaining how they have to watch it. Megumi knows that he could never say no, so he smiles fondly as he watches Yuji hook it up to the laptop.

A part of Megumi feels bad because he was sure Yuji wasn't lying about the movie, but he can't seem to focus on whatever the men on screen are doing when Yuji is sitting close enough that his thighs are pressed against his, and when the only thing that he can smell is the faint scent of Yuji's shampoo. Megumi plays with his fingers in an attempt to calm himself down, his eyes boring into the screen as he tries to focus on the movie.

"Fushi - Fushiguro." Yuji suddenly speaks up, Megumi looks over to the boy, worry filling him as he notices the sudden shakiness of the other's voice. He lets his eyes fall to Yuji's hands and spots the way he's ringing his fingers through them, Megumi looks on as Yuji sits there in silence, and he swears he can see the cogs turning in the other's mind as he tries to think of the words to say, all while he refuses to make eye contact.

"I - you probably know this already, but I just need to say it anyway." He starts, and Megumi feels his nerves skyrocket, he watches the way Yuji takes a breath and wets his lips before he starts the rest of the sentence, "but - but I really like you, Fushiguro." Yuji finishes, the apples of his cheeks now blazing red. Megumi feels all the air get knocked out of him when Yuji suddenly makes eye contact with him again, feeling his skin prickle with heat when he sees the eyes staring back at him filled with honesty. It makes Megumi's heart feel like it's on fire.

"I like you too, Itadori." He confesses, and Megumi feels as if a weight has been lifted on his shoulders. Upon hearing those words, Yuji lights up, and Megumi swears it's brighter than any light in Tokyo.

"Really?" Yuji asks, and Megumi happily confirms. The boy lets out what seems to be a sigh of relief and Megumi softly laughs at the response, his heart filling with pure adoration for the other. Megumi lets his hand find Yuji's before he's speaking this time.

"Does - does this mean you'd want to be my boyfriend?" Yuji asks, trying to make his voice seem as collected as possible. Megumi's smile grows as he agrees to Yuji's question.

The two end up watching the rest of the movie in comfortable silence, the air around them light and filled with pure joy as their fingers stay firmly locked the rest of the night.

"They raised their prices, again." Yuji whisper yells as he walks over to the table Megumi was waiting for him at. Megumi narrows his eyes at Yuji before looking down at the cups, "again? " He whispers, and Yuji nods sadly at him.

"This - this is like our cafe, they can't raise the prices on us." Yuji huffs, his body his the back of his chair as his arms crossed over his chest in protest. Megumi can't help the blush that spreads across his body at the word our. A smile takes over when he remembers all their previous encounters at this cafe. Starting from their first date here as just friends who accidentally confessed to each other, to now, their first date as boyfriends.

"I'll get it next time." Megumi promises as he takes a sip from his drink, wincing at the coolness of the drink.

"You better." Yuji jokes as he puffs his straw wrapper at him. Megumi swats it away and Yuji laughs at his successful attempt at getting the other wound up.

The 'first date' goes flawlessly, Megumi thinks. He watches as Yuji goes on an animated rant about some comic he just read, the cheap fluorescent lights above him accenting the features on his face. When they finish their drinks he excuses himself and ends up ordering a too sweet dessert, one with two forks, for old times sake, he explains. Megumi laughing at the way Yuji laughs in embarrassment at himself. It was cute, okay! he says in defence.

The two walk home holding hands, it's his new favourite feeling, Megumi thinks.

"I like this." Yuji says as he swings their arm back and forth, and if it was anyone else, Megumi would be annoyed with the way his arm is being pulled around, but he lets this one slide.

"Like what?" Megumi asks, looking over to the boy, Yuji meets his eyes and smiles softly at him.

"This - us." He admits, and Megumi wordlessly agrees.

They end up at Yuji's apartment shortly after, the two standing hand in hand in front of the building. Yuji tries to push out the words that lay on the tip of his tongue but they die there as soon as he tries to open his mouth.

"I should go." Yuji says instead without making any attempt to leave, and Megumi nods reluctantly at him. The pink-haired boy wraps him in a tight hug before he turns around to leave and Megumi feels something take over.

"Wait!" Megumi states as he slips his hand into the others. Yuji turns around and stares back down at him, the action making Megumi feel the nerves prickle against his skin. He pushes them down as he pulls Yuji closer to him, softly smiling before closing his eyes and pressing his lips against Yuji's, and it was really everything he imagined it to be, right down to the lingering taste of the sugary coffee drink and the slight chap of his lips. It all felt perfect to him.

"Goodnight, Itadori." He says as he pulls away, he looks at Yuji and marvels at the beauty of his pinks cheeks, and soft lips. Yuji shyly smiles at him.

"Goodnight, Fushiguro." he replies before smiling into another soft kiss.
