Summary
Ned’s blood is beating fast and hard - with terror and - and something else, something deep and dangerous, and as if he sees it in his face, the preacher smiles at him again, fixing him with his hard, glittering eyes, and leans in to kiss him tenderly on the lips.
It’s a second too long to be chaste, and Ned feels the barest flicker of tongue against his lips before the preacher pulls back, taking his smell of incense and tobacco with him.
‘Welcome,’ he says, and releases him.
