Work Text:
Wonderful face, beautiful smile
You came from the heavens
If only your good looks are to be trusted
And eyes that sparkle for days
The wind has carried me to your mercy
Gracing me with your presence
Sharp tongue and witty brain
Perhaps I could be your match?
Blood on my face, on your hand
smeared over the knuckles
Of the fingers that once
Skids gingerly over my face
Which is bloody, and bruised
You never learned how to pace
Or how to hold back
I know this, I’ve kissed you before
How you move as you want
To take it all in
Your fist learns the world for you
Perhaps we are a good match?
They say things about you, angel
What a noble man you are
If I could begin to imagine to be good
I guess I should start by imitating you
But they say things about me, too
An empty shell of a man
More battle scars than skin and flesh
More direct orders than free will
A war machine, a menace,
The monster you lot fight against
I imagine a knight like you
Wouldn’t glance at a knight like me
Were you surprised by the cold shoulder?
Did you expect me to fall in love?
Did you, too, without my knowledge?
I tried to freeze the time
to find the innocent boy beneath your wicked smile
but your presence is as electrifying as it is soothing
persistent like water, dangerous like lightning
I tried to stop you, but you’re not one to be told
Is that why we exploded in a scene?
Is that why you break my nose?
Not with your thunder, your persistence, or your love
But with your hand, your body, you
Don’t want to explode
When you hit me
Ah, that face, that smile, those eyes
I remember once upon a time
there was a boy who lives in the dark
And his eyes shine and sparkle
Amidst the haze of the abyss
Those eyes told me long ago
Run, before this place eats your light
For it is always hungry
And I wasn’t from there
So I was fresh meat
And you want me
To survive it
You hit me anyways
the sound of flesh hitting flesh
an unfamiliar symphony for my ears
used to the song of crackling ice
oh, darling? did you break a bone?
Nobleman, beautiful angel, sir knight
I didn’t survive your abyss
You must have known already
You didn’t? I shouldn’t have left you
should have protected you
you and the light in those
deep blues
Those eyes that sparkle
Looks into my spark-less ones
Aren’t they scary, sir knight?
They remind me of home, darling
So dull and deep blue
So dark and hopeless
Like the place
We once
Knew.
