Work Text:

Valentine’s day has always been a basic day for Jimin during his entire life. Why would people celebrate such a day for couples? Do couples really need a day to remind them to spend it together? Jimin thought this was pathetic. And Jimin never really got into a relationship as well. Maybe that was why he thought this was pathetic since he never really experienced Valentine’s day. Today marks the twenty third Valentine’s day of his life and he couldn’t care less. This day was just going to be like another one. No way he would feel even a tiny bit sad for being single. He’s used to it, and he doesn’t care.

As he gets up from his bed, he sees Mimi, his cat, at the corner of his room, sleeping on a pillow that Jimin delicately placed the day before. Mimi is still a baby and she gets scared quite often so Jimin makes sure to not make any sound et walks over her to pet her head slowly. The sound of purring makes him immediately smile and he decides to get out of his room to do breakfast.

As he was making his coffee, Jimin thought about what would Hoseok and Yoongi do today. Is there anything specific to do on Valentine’s day? Offer presents? Eating at a fancy restaurant? Spend the night together? Boring, he thought. You could offer presents, eat at a fancy restaurant, and spend the night every time. Jimin was making up excuses for himself at this point but wouldn’t admit it.

Since it was Sunday today, Jimin didn’t have work but he wished he did because the moment he went on Instagram to check anything new, every post was about this cursed day. A small pout appeared on his face and exactly at this time Mimi climbed the couch to rest on Jimin’s lap. He started stroking her, gently while smiling sadly. Maybe he cared about this day after all.

Taking a sip of his strong coffee, Jimin switched on the tv, trying to spend his day just normally, as a day off. The ads were all the same and everything reminded him of February 14th. There were ads about flowers, make up, household device, even Spotify had an ad related to Valentine’s day. He switched off the tv quickly and sighed. This day was going to be long. He gets up to put the empty cup into the sink while looking at his apartment. Everything was cleaned perfectly but he decided to clean it a bit more in a way to have something to do. He started by rearranging his furniture, tired of seeing the same thing every day. As he was slowly moving with struggle the couch, someone knocks on the door. Jimin wasn’t expecting a package today nor someone. He removed any sweat from his forehead and quickly passed a hand through his hair to be a bit more presentable.

When he opened the door, he froze. Jungkook was in front of him, a bouquet of roses in hand and a huge smile appearing on his face. He was wearing tight black slacks and a white shirt, the first buttons neglected. He was really handsome but what was he doing here?

“Jungkook?” He asked, still out of shock that his best friend showed up early on the morning. It was 9am but the black-haired man is always sleeping until noon. This was weird.

“Happy Valentine’s day Jimin hyung!” He shouted out; enthusiasm being heard in his voice.

Jimin threw him a look, still wondering why would Jungkook wish a happy valentine’s day, he didn’t understand. And as if Jungkook understood, he spoke again.

“Since all of our friends are doing something for this day and that there’s only just the both of us, I decided to spend this day with you.”
The last words of the younger hit Jimin like a truck, he didn’t expect him to make his heart flutter again. Indeed, Jimin has always had a crush on his best friend but never had the guts to let him know and confess. He thought that was unnecessary and could ruin his friendship with the said one. But also, Jungkook didn’t feel the same and was probably straight. He kept hanging out with girls regarding his Snapchat story, and Jimin just accepted the fact that he would never be the one he would spend time with. And even less on Valentine’s day. Jungkook cleared his throat, waiting for an answer from the older. Jimin didn’t realize he has been stuck in his thought during this time and slowly smiled to him.

“Happy Valentine’s day Jungkook.” He paused because of the taller one offering the bouquet. “Thank you.” His cheeks slowly heating up, meaning he was blushing. The view of the other one in front of him, looking this good, roses offered by him made Jimin’s heart flutter. He backed off a bit to let Jungkook inside of his apartment.
“It’s a mess, I’m sorry. I was trying to occupy myself.” He said as he watched the younger staring at every furniture in the middle of the room. Jungkook quickly wrapped his hand around Jimin’s wrist and the older looked up at him, a questioning stare showing up. The younger sighed a bit before speaking.
“Listen, just dress up, we’re going out.”

A shy smile appeared on Jimin’s face, not able to answer and slowly nods, his cheeks getting red. Never was he expecting to spend Valentine’s day with Jungkook. Was it a dream? But he had to remind himself that they’re going to celebrate this day as friends, right? Why would Jungkook invite him to spend it with him as nothing else than friends? They were friends. He decided to go with tight denim jeans and a black shirt with black Converse. This wasn’t too much but enough to feel a bit fancy.
When he got out of his room, the taller one eyed him, a little smirk on his lips. He felt shy again, as he was being exposed in front of Jungkook. “You’re really pretty” the other one said, almost as a whisper but Jimin heard it and a shiver went down his spine. The compliment went deep into his heart, hoping that he meant it and by looking at Jungkook’s eyes he saw nothing but sincerity. He gently smiled towards him, not knowing what to say, the words didn’t want to come out of his mouth.

“Let’s go?” Jungkook said, offering his hand and that’s all it took for Jimin to run to him and intertwine his fingers with the other one.

The road to – wait, where were they going? Jimin was too shy to ask but also trusted Jungkook about their destination, his friend knew him too well, so he wasn’t scared to go anywhere with him. So, the road was filled with a comfortable silence, none of them talking but this didn’t feel weird. Jungkook was slowly humming to the music of the radio, one of those Lauv’s songs playing every time. As Jimin was admiring the beautiful view of Seoul streets, he noticed that they were going into the center of it and when the car stopped, his heart missed a beat.

They were parked in front of an animal café. No way in the world he would think about such a thing. To be honest, he expected to go to their usual spot, where they grab their coffee but not this at all. He looked to Jungkook, his eyes getting wet because it meant so much to him. He loved animals and especially dogs but since there was Mimi at home he was too scared to adopt one.

“You didn’t” he said, slapping him lightly, still shocked about the place they were about to go. Jungkook giggled to this and Jimin swore this was melody to his ears, his nose was scrunching, and the blonde man thought it was absolutely cute.

They eventually got out of the car and Jungkook offered his hand again before entering the huge building.
When the warm hit the both of them, a long sighed fell from their mouth since it was really cold outside in this month of February. They heard tiny barking and Jimin’s heart was already melting. Jungkook indicated him to sit down while he will order coffee for them.

Jimin was waiting for the other one to come back when a tiny white dog came and started biting the hem of his jeans, the man awed and started petting the animal. He saw a choker around the dog’s neck and checked to see the name of the cute dog “Kira” and immediately lift the dog up to make him sit on his lap, still petting his head. His fur was white and so soft that Jimin couldn’t stop touching it. The small dog started to lick the man’s nose and at the exact same moment Jungkook came with two cups in his hands, smiling at the view and whispering the word “cute”.

“Do you like it?” Jungkook started, already knowing the answer because of Jimin’s smile not disappearing since they entered the café.

“Of course, I love it! I wasn’t expecting this at all to be honest, but this is absolutely lovely.” He said, sincerity could be heard in his voice and seen in his eyes. Jungkook slowly nodded at this, happy about his choices. But this was only the beginning.

They made sure to spend time with every dog that was in the café, spending a whole hour around them, their coffee long finished by then. When it was around 12pm, Jungkook asked if he was hungry and the said man nodded quickly.

The place Jungkook chose for both of them was amazing, it was a tiny restaurant but felt really comfortable, there were almost nobody inside and they enjoyed the time together, sometimes laughing, sometimes staring at each other. This felt so right, Jimin thought. The food was cheap but so tasty and they ordered champagne. When Jungkook went to pay for their meals, the woman said that they looked good together and Jungkook smiled widely and thanked her.

Jimin couldn’t believe how happy he was spending this day with Jungkook, this really felt like a dream. But he was not dreaming. This day was supposed to be like any other days off, he would just sit at home, maybe watch a film, or just clean his apartment but no, here he was with the person that meant the world to him. “We’re friends”, he reminded himself again.

The afternoon went by so fast, Jungkook decided to bring him to a park, with beautiful views and to feed the little animals. Even though they were cold, Jungkook didn’t hesitate to take his hand in his and always made sure to warm Jimin up. They grabbed hot chocolate and some pastries while watching the beautiful frozen lake and talking about random things. Time was flying by but this felt right to Jimin to keep talking with Jungkook, they couldn’t stop laughing and smiling. At a certain point, Jungkook got up and took Jimin’s hand.

“We should go, it’s already dark, the night is coming.”

The other one didn’t ask anything about it and just hummed. Even though the day was amazing, he could’ve spent it at home with him on his couch and that would’ve been an amazing day as well but Jungkook didn’t see it like that. He wanted to impress the other man. He couldn’t believe this was already the end of such a beautiful day. He couldn’t believe either that he spent it with Jungkook but here they were, walking side by side, hands intertwined, making their way to the car.

While the younger one was focusing on the road, Jimin was watching throughout the window. Yet, they weren’t driving back to Jimin’s apartment. He didn’t recognize the road and Jungkook must have understood because he slowly reached for the older hand and gently squeezed it.

“We are not done yet Jiminie hyung.” And just like that, Jimin’s heart missed a beat again. He was really happy right now and was so excited to see what Jungkook prepared more than what he has already done for him today.

When he realized that they weren’t in the city anymore but starting to go up a slope, Jimin didn’t get it. Jungkook parked the car.

“What are we doing here?” He asked softly, still wondering why they were in the middle of nowhere in front of a forest.

“Trust me.” He just said, and Jimin nodded.

Jungkook got out of the car following by the blonde man and when he turned around to see what was coming from the back of the car, his eyes started to get wet. They were on hills, giving the beautiful view of the big city of Seoul but also in front of the stars. The view was breathtaking but so was Jungkook, watching attentively the sky. Jimin rushed to him to hug him, his lips meeting Jungkook’s neck and Jimin swore the other one shivered at the sudden action.

“You didn’t have to..” Jimin said.

Jungkook didn’t answer to that and instead opened the trunk of the car where two big blankets were already placed for two people. Jimin couldn’t believe his eyes. The younger one climbed the trunk to lay in the car, opening his arms for the small man to join. They cuddled like that for what seemed like hours, not talking just enjoying the view and the company of each other. The blankets were so big that the both of them never felt cold and obviously they were glued to each other, so they were warming up.

“Jungkook, thank you so much for this day. I don’t understand why you put so much effort into this but I’m so happy right now.” Jimin confessed. And indeed, this was true. He never felt this happy before, his days were always the same boring routine and he needed this.

Jungkook smiled gently to him while slowly caressing his neck.

“I love you Jiminie hyung.” Jungkook simply answered and Jimin’s world fell apart. Did he really say he loved him? What was happening? Why was his heart beating so fast, he was dreaming obviously. Maybe he meant it in a friend way? Too many things were going up in his head and this just lead to Jungkook not having answers and just kept talking.

“I know this is sudden, but I’ve always wanted to tell you how I felt about you. I thought this day was a good one to confess. I’m in love with you. I’ve always been since the day I met you, I can thank Hoseok for introducing you to me. I’ve tried to not think about it because you were so out of my game but today I can’t keep it to me. I lo-“ Jungkook didn’t even have time to finish his sentence when he felt a pair of lips meeting his owns and he didn’t realise at first but these were Jimin’s. He made sure to reply to the sudden kiss, feeling so overwhelmed and melting while closing his eyes softly. This was the best thing that could ever happen to Jungkook. Maybe he was overthinking the whole time, but this was the right thing. Jimin was the one to break the kiss to speak.

“Dumbass, I love you, always have. I guess I never told you because you were always hanging out with girls and I thought you were straight.” He giggled. “I’m in love with you Jungkook.”

Maybe for the first time in his life, Valentine’s day was not a basic day for Jimin. Maybe it meant something. Jimin was finally spending it with someone, and this someone was the one he loved deeply.
