Work Text:
Yuuji stood on the roof of an abandoned building staring at the chaos that started in Shibuya, his pink hair swaying with the wind, the cold air slapping his cheek as he listens to the growls and screams of the curses below.
He closes his eyes, gulping down the guilt that makes him want to throw up.
"There you are I was worried about you!" A cheery voice greets from behind him.
He snaps his eyes open turning to the familiar voice of Junpei. He sees the brunet smiling at him as he walks towards him, Yuuji walks forward as well meeting him in the middle.
Junpei reaches a hand out, his expression morphing to that of concern as he notices Yuuji's dejected appearance, he gently brushes the scar by his lip "oh Yuuji what happened?"
Tears pool in his eyes "I failed." His breath stutters "I couldn't save them, I could only watch as Sukuna killed them all. Their blood is on my hands, there's no one else to blame but me." He looks down at his hands, imagining the blood of all those who died because of him.
Junpei cupped his face and forced him to look at him, he smiled "you will always be my hero, Yuuji, you will always save the day." He moves his thumb to smooth his brows, starting at the scar then moving to his temple. "It's not too late, Japan still needs you Yuuji, the Jujutsu world needs you too."
They rest their foreheads against each other, Junpei's hands never leaving Itadori's face. "Will you be there with me?"
Junpei chuckles "of course, every step of the way." He leans forward kissing him on the corner of his mouth, on top of his scar. Junpei leans away yet his breath still tickling Itadori's skin.
Yuuji closes his eyes before everything fades to black, his body being shaken as he's forced back into reality.
He looks around seeing Choso leaning on the wall in the corner of the room. He looks to Yuki leaning over his body, she smiles.
"Oh good you're awake, I'm sensing a strong presence approaching we have to get going."
Yuuji nods and Yuki stands, walking away. He sits there a bit longer his hand touching where Junpei's lips were before he stands up and prepares to leave.
He still has duty to fulfill.
And a promise to keep.
