Work Text:
Cause we were just kids
When we fell in love
Not knowing what it was
"Master Kaeya, please, you're too old for this!"
Diluc laughs while he sees Kaeya running around all the room, dodging the attempts of the maids to put him in a suit.
"Adelinde, I said it too many times, I'm not dressing... That."
"Come on, Kaeya, it's not going to be that bad." He sighs with a smile. "I'm sure it will suit you well."
"Not everyone is you, Luc. You will suit this like if it were made for you, but..."
"Kae, it is made for you by the tailors."
"Yeah, whatever, I don't want to wear that uncomfortable thing."
Adelinde sighs with resignation when she hears him.
"You had to before, where's the problem now?" She asks.
"The last time I wore that I was like... Nine? It's not the same."
"Just give it a try, Kae." Diluc says. "You know normally father would mind so much but today's ball has a lot of aristocrats and it's important the etiquette."
"Master Diluc is going to do the same, Master Kaeya, please."
"See, let's make a deal" Diluc says, seeing the insecurity in Kaeya's eyes. "If you wear it in the ball, I will do one thing you want. Anything."
His eyes light up like they were dendro slimes burning. That idiot...
"Whatever?"
"Between limits, obviously, but yes." He can't see his cheeks but he's sure they're as red as his vision.
"Okay, where's the catch?"
He was about to say there's no catch, but Adelinde intervenes before he could speak.
"You can't see him until the ball."
Both guys look at her with curiosity.
"Why is that? There's nothing I..." Kaeya starts asking, but he's quickly interrupted by her.
"Then you wouldn't mind, right?"
Baffled, Kaeya nods and Diluc shrugs. He doesn't mind either, but he doesn't understand the reason behind that condition.
"Okay, then, Master Kaeya, go to your own room to change."
"As you please, I guess."
And then Kaeya goes out of his room, the clothes in his arm and his blue eye still blinking with confusion.
"Adelinde, why do you...?"
"Oh, he's a little moron, but we will teach him a lesson. Come here, Master Diluc."
He sees the chair she's holding and then he looks at her again.
"Adelinde, I'm seventeen, I'm old enough to..."
"You want to look good for him, don't you?" He feels his face on fire because of her words. "I thought so, you'll look stunning after I'm finished with you. So much that he couldn't keep his mouth closed during his lifetime."
He laughs and then he obeys, sitting on the chair and letting her do her thing. Adelinde has brushed his hair so many times that it's so familiar by that time.
He wonders if Kaeya really will react as Adelinde wants to, and if he does, how his face would look like?
Diluc imagines it and starts laughing for himself.
He can't wait for tonight.
Okay, maybe he is the one who wouldn't be able to keep his mouth closed for the rest of his life when he saw him coming into the room of the mansion his father's friend owns, running late as usual.
He knows Kaeya's handsome. For Barbatos, he obviously knows, he's in fucking love with him, he's not that oblivious, but that was another level.
Kaeya told the truth when he said he didn't wear suits since they were kids, and definitely he has to do it more. The dark blue shirt suits perfectly with his hair, the black dark coat clings to his body and gives him little room for imagination. Dark pants and shoes, while his hair is pulled back and his usual ponytail over his left shoulder. And... Oh, is he wearing dark gloves?
It's the perfect contrast to his almost full white dressing aside for his shirt and shoes. But they have always been complementary, one has what the other lacks, and they're perfect like that.
Diluc only could only move for laughing at the sight of Kaeya almost bumping over a noble when he saw him. Adelinde was right also when she said that.
He politely dismisses the girl who was talking to him about something he doesn't remember now, and moves closer to Kaeya, like a bee to a sweet flower. Kaeya is apologizing with the man, but each second he looks at him like he never has seen him before.
The room is big enough to keep all Mondstadt inside and there are so many people from different places, but Diluc has only eyes for Kaeya. Kaeya and his charming smile, his blush across his tan skin, that blue pendant Diluc gifted him last year and he had decided to wear it, as if he knew Adelinde's plan since the beginning.
For the Seven, if he doesn't kiss him right here, right now, it's only because it would be inappropriate and he still has a few neurons working.
Kaeya despatch the man as soon as possible and starts making his way to him too. When they are close enough (even if it is not as Diluc would love to), Diluc smiles, makes a bow and offers his hand to him.
"Would you grant me this dance?"
"As many as you want"
Kaeya smiles, and his smile is everything Diluc needs to forget the entire world for seconds, minutes, even hours.
And they dance, but not as much as they wanted to, because soon the music was interrupted by the host's discourse and then they get separated by different people interested in getting closer to Ragnvindr family and, above all, on their legacy.
When they are finally able to get together, it has passed half an hour and it has to be in the back garden, so far from the room where the party is.
"Barbatos forgive me, but I swear I would use my freedom for killing all that annoying people if I could"
Kaeya laughs at his words, taking his hand and guiding him further from the mansion. They still can hear the piano and violin being played.
Kaeya's laugh, he thinks, it's more beautiful than an entire orchestra. And there are so many stars in the sky, it's a lovely night, but he still finds more beautiful Kaeya's eye being illuminated by the fireflies that are around them.
"Come on, Luc, I know that you missed me but I think..."
He doesn't get to finish his sentence because Diluc couldn't resist the temptation and kiss him so desperately that it seems as if it would be the last time he does it (it wouldn't, but only in case).
It's only until the air lacks enough for being a risk when they get separate, but not too much, as they can feel each other's erratic breath on their skin.
"Adelinde knows too well how to make me never disobey her orders again."
Diluc laughs. Adelinde only brushed his hair in a high ponytail and put a particular perfume on him, but he guessed she did something more he couldn't see.
"Now I guess we can dance in peace." Kaeya says after giving him another kiss. "But before..."
Before Diluc incredulous eyes, Kaeya puts off his shoes and socks, and kicks them out, stretching his feet over the grass.
"For the Seven, you're so crazy" Diluc laughs again, not believing what he's seeing.
"But still you love me." Kaeya teases. "And come on, don't tell me you don't hate them as well. I swear that if I have to wear them one more time, I will borrow your vision and burn them down."
"Don't exaggerate, it's not..." Kaeya's I'm-not-buying-it gaze doesn't let him continue. "Okay, maybe they are but..."
"Diluc, there's no one here, you can get rid of them too."
"I'm not that crazy and it's not that bad."
"I have seen you dancing and I'm sure you can do it better. Also you owe me a favor, don't you remember?"
Oh. Yes. He told him he would do whatever he wants.
"You're a lost cause." Diluc laughs and does as he is told, feeling the coolness of the grass beneath his feet.
"Much better, right?"
"Shut up." His smile doesn't fade even if he bumps slightly Kaeya's shoulder.
"Make me."
"With pleasure."
And they kiss, beneath the sea of stars and far away from the rest of the world.
Every time they kiss, Diluc can feel something he can only describe as a mixture of happiness, calm and joy running inside his veins. Maybe it's what is called love, but he doesn't care about names.
Kaeya's the only one who can make him feel such a rush of emotions with only one touch.
And between laughs and kisses, they dance. Barefoot, beneath the moon and with the winds playing with their hairs and bringing them the music who still is sounding in the main room. Maybe people have already noticed their absence and after they will be scolded, but why would they ever care when they are exactly where they want to be?
"Kaeya."
He calls his name after a long silence when they simply were dancing slowly, at their own tune, in their own world.
"Hm?"
"Can I ask you a favor?"
"Whatever you want."
Kaeya separates his head from his shoulder in order to look at him in the eyes.
"Can you quit your eyepatch?"
Kaeya seems surprised, but then he makes a grimace. He has never removed it, he had it since they were kids and never has let Diluc see what he has beneath it.
"I don't think you would like it."
That's the same answer he gives him.
But not this time.
"I really think there's nothing I wouldn't like of you, Kaeya." He caresses his cheek with softness.
Kaeya blushes, and Dilux feels his ears burning, but what he said it's the truth.
After a long silence, when Diluc was about to tell him it's okay if he doesn't want to, Kaeya speaks.
"Don't tell me I didn't tell you" He sighs, and steps back a little to have enough space to remove the eyepatch.
When he opens his eyes again, Diluc sees that one of them is so much blue that the other. It's like the same sky, but one is the morning and the other the night. And it's simply beautiful, unique and...
"I told you, you wouldn't..."
He tries to put his eyepatch again on his eye, but Diluc doesn't let him.
"It's... It's beautiful"
"Don't try to make me feel better, I know..."
"You're perfect."
And Kaeya seems without any replica of his statement. Truth to be told, he is perfect with both of his eyes looking at him in awe and then ashamed, but he likes Kaeya so much that he could have had a huge scar or no eye at all that he wouldn't have even cared. He would still love him.
But his eye is so beautiful and catching that Kaeya's eyes seem to be double effective with him now he has not his eyepatch.
"You look perfect, Kaeya."
Kaeya kisses him, and he doesn't oppose resistance. And after more dances and kisses and teasings, they end up on the ground, Diluc sits upon the grass while Kaeya has his head on his lap, letting him play with his hair and tracing stars with his hand.
"What are you tracing?"
Kaeya smiles and looks up at the stars again.Diluc follows his gaze, wondering what he is searching for.
"Do you see that constellation, Diluc? The one that it's beneath the moon"
He traces in his mind a figure with the stars Kaeya is tracing too with his hand.
"It's an owl, isn't it?"
"It's your constellation. Astrologers said it was, and I made a research about it. It's said to be a lonely constellation, but equally is connected to wealth."
"You know I didn't ever care about those things."
"My father did, so me too." He says with a faint of sadness on his voice.
"What's yours?" He asks, trying to not get deeper in that painful topic.
"Do you see the one who is right next yours, but under it?" He traces it with his finger, and Diluc sees it "It's Pavo Ocellus. That's mine. But it's rare that it's so close to yours..."
"And what says about you?"
"I don't have the courage to investigate, but I'm sure nothing too important." Kaeya laughs. "You know? I envy the stars. Always shining, perfect, powerful..."
Diluc thinks otherwise. In fact, the stars would have to envy Kaeya for being more beautiful than them, only a simple mortal surpasses them.
"I think you're more valuable than one of them." Kaeya looks at him in awe, and Dilux has to look anywhere but his face. "What would I do with a star if you're not with me?"
"Fulfill a dream, maybe?"
"Then, there's my dream" He says as he gets closer to him. "I want you."
I wish you to be forever with me.
"May the stars hear you."
And then, they kiss, they laugh and they smile.
Together as their constellations in that perfect night sky.
