Among Wisteria and Bellflowers

Summary:

Eventually, Todoroki decided to break the silence.

"Do you want to?"

"Do I want to what?"

"Slow dance."

"Maybe. Are you offerin'?" Bakugo said, amused.

"I guess I am."

or

Todobaku dance in a courtyard gazebo because Bakugo hates parties and they have a crush on each other. Oh, also flowers.

Work Text:

Bakugo hated any party of any kind. They were too loud with too many extras trying to make small talk about things that didn't even matter. So how he somehow ended up at the annual school dance was beyond him. He was unbelievably uncomfortable in the suit he was forced to wear, the tie around his neck giving him minor heart attacks every time he was reminded of it. How his shitty "friends" had been able to convince him to go with them and got him to wear a suit without getting killed in the process was also a question that Bakugo didn't have an answer to. (He was really getting soft, wasn't he?)

After a good two hours of being jerked around by Mina or Kaminari, he was finally able to slip outside to get away from the chaos. He was now leaning against the railing of the gazebo in the school's courtyard with his head resting in his hands. He stared vacantly around the grassy area, his eyes dragging along the bellflowers and wisteria that surrounded the white and brown structure. A faint smile tugged at his lips at memories of hiking with his mother. She would stop along the way just to tell him about every flower that she saw and the symbolism that they carried. He reached out to touch the hanging flowers in front of him, her voice echoing inside his head.

Wisteria. They mean immortality and support. Bellflowers mean affection, consistency, and everlasting love.

"Bakugo?"

Bakugo whipped around to see who was calling from behind him. Todoroki, who had somehow determined at the beginning of the year that he would stick his nose in all of Bakugo's business, was standing at the base of the gazebo stairs.

"Hah? What the hell do you want, Half n' Half?"

Todoroki shrugged. "I saw you sneaking out of the gym."

"And?"

"Thought something might have happened."

"So you decided to follow me ?"

Todoroki shrugged again and walked towards where Bakugo was standing. He joined the temperamental teenager in leaning back against the railing of the gazebo. Bakugo just huffed and moved over to give the other boy room.

"So... any particular reason you're out here staring at flowers instead of inside dancing?"

Bakugo snorted. "Who the fuck would I even dance with dumbass?"

"What do you mean?"

Bakugo raised an eyebrow at Todoroki, who just stared back blankly.

"I mean, everyone is either scared of me or has a partner of their own. Besides, they aren't really dancing dancing."

"'Dancing dancing?'"

"Like slow dancing dumbass."

"Oh."

"Yeah, 'oh'."

The two boys were enveloped in comfortable silence. Bakugo could feel Todoroki's eyes studying him as the blond kept his eyes steadily trained ahead. Eventually, Todoroki decided to break the silence.

"Do you want to?"

"Do I want to what?"

"Slow dance."

"Maybe. Are you offerin'?" Bakugo said, amused. Todoroki looked taken aback for a moment before recovering.

"I guess I am."

It was Bakugo's turn to look stunned as he turned to look at the half n' half boy. Todoroki looked as stone-faced as ever which was as pleasing as it was annoying. Bakugo clicked his tongue.

"Fine. Whatever. It's not like I care."

Todoroki smiled softly and Bakugo felt himself doing the same. Dammit.

"I'll lead," Todoroki declared as he pulled out his phone to look for music.

"What? Why you?"

"I'm taller. It'll be easier."

Bakugo huffed but conceded to his reasoning. Eventually, Todoroki made his choice on the music and set his phone down on the railing. He turned to Bakugo and offered his hand.

"Shall we dance?"

"You are such a dork," Bakugo laughed, shaking his head. He took Todoroki's hand and was pulled towards the taller boy's chest. Todoroki snaked an arm around Bakugo's waist as Bakugo put his hand on Todoroki's shoulder.

"Ready?" Todoroki asked.

"As I'll ever be."

Todoroki chuckled at the blond's words and began to sway slowly to the music. As the music played on, Bakugo noticed Todoroki's eyes looked as if they were shining due to the fairy lights around them. The usual scowl that graced Bakugo's face eased to something almost like contentment. Todoroki's soft smile had grown wider than it was previously. Neither of them commented on the fact that the hands that were holding the other's slowly began to join to their other hand. It was unnaturally peaceful, the outdoors exempt from people walking around. Barely audible EDM played from the direction of the school gym but both of them could barely hear it. They stayed swaying for what seemed like hours to the pair until Todoroki stopped them.

"I wanna....try...something," Todoroki said, lowly. Bakugo nodded before he felt lips meet his own. His eyes widened in surprise then closed as he leaned into Todoroki. Bakugo's arms slid down until they rested on Todoroki's. The two boys parted, finally, both of them looking particularly stunned at what had just happened.

"Um..." Todoroki finally managed to stutter out, still looking down owlishly. Bakugo's stunned expression broke into a devilish grin.

"So, how long have you been tryin' to get in my pants for, Icyhot?"

"I-! I don't...I didn't..." Todoroki stammered lamely. Bakugo laughed wildly.

"Calm down. I'm just messing with you," Bakugo said between laughs. Todoroki stared at Bakugo before bursting out laughing as well. As Todoroki and Bakugo's breathing calmed, they both heard Kirishima's voice call Bakugo's name from the school.

"Shit. I gotta go," Bakugo cursed. He looked back up at Todoroki and pulled him down by his shirt collar to eye level. "7. Tomorrow. I'll be waiting outside my dorm."

Bakugo gave him a peck before finally releasing his shirt and walking off.

Todoroki just watched as he walked away.

"And that's how we started dating," Bakugo finished, shoving more rice in his mouth. Todoroki nodded in confirmation, although he didn't know how exactly this topic came up at dinner. He guessed shouldn't be too surprised that their guests decided that talking about love lives, though.

"That's.....surprisingly romantic for you both," Uraraka pointed accusingly with her chopsticks at the couple.

"Hah!? What's that supposed to mean, Round Face!?"

Uraraka shrugged. "I'm just saying that you both have a habit of being painstakingly blunt. Especially romantically."

"She has a point," Midoriya interjected, nervously fiddling with his utensils.

"We're plenty romantic, shitheads!" Bakugo huffed, crossing his arms like a child. Todoroki laughed at his spouse softly, before looking at Midoriya and Uraraka once again.

"So, how did you both start dating? Was it in UA as well?"

Both Midoriya and Uraraka grew immeasurably red at Todoroki's questions, beginning to stutter out excuses and other nonsense words. Todoroki cocked his head in confusion while Bakugo died laughing next to him.

"Yeah, Ochako! Tell us how you and fuckin' Deku got together!" Bakugo shouted, still cackling madly.

"Oh shut up, you angry dandelion! You didn't even tell people that you and Mr. Oblivious were dating, let alone married!" Ochako nearly screeched.

"It's none of your nosy fuckers business!"

As the 'arguing' began escalating between the two pro-heroes, Midoriya shot Todoroki an apologetic look. Todoroki gave a small smile back at him.

He really was happy that Bakugo decided to date him all those years ago.

Notes:

How did these two become my comfort ship? I'll never know. Did I also project on Bakugo about his mother and the flower thing? Maybe. You'll never know.
