Work Text:
Jotaro sat at his desk, only half focused on the papers he needed to finish for work. Every now and then, he’d glance at the phone, waiting for a call.
Despite leaving Morioh almost a year ago, he and Rohan continued their relationship, talking whenever they could. Almost every evening- Or morning, for Rohan- they would call. This evening, however, Rohan was late, the time nearing nine at night for Jotaro.
Jotaro sighed as he closed one of his books, deciding his work wasn’t worth the effort at the moment, and that waiting for the call was more important. As he began rearranging his desk, the phone rang. Jotaro picked the phone up, knowing who it was, “Good morning.”
“Hi, I slept late.”
Jotaro looked at the clock on his wall, “Hm, never noticed. I was doing work, I would’ve been up late anyways.”
“Did you have a good day? How was work?”
“I’ve been working on a report, so busy. It’s been good though. How’d you sleep?”
“I was up until almost three last night working on art so I didn’t get to sleep until five. And I miss you, it’s been almost a year since I’ve seen you.”
Jotaro rolled his chair over to look at the calendar on the wall. He flipped through it, “I know, I’ll try to come see you again soon. It’s just busy with work.”
Rohan sighed, the sound of him moving through the house coming through the phone. He was quiet for a moment before saying, “I just miss you, that’s all.”
“I should be free enough to travel soon,” Jotaro replied. He moved the phone to his other ear and grabbed a pen from his desk, crossing a date off on his calendar, “I’ll let you know when, I promise.”
"We’ve been together for almost a year you know.”
Jotaro chuckled, “Trust me, I know. If I can’t come soon, I’ll definitely get time to come see you then.”
“You better! I can handle not seeing you for a while, but I don’t want to miss our anniversary. That’s a big deal!”
Jotaro got up from his desk, going to his bedroom, “I won’t miss our anniversary Rohan, I promise. How’s Morioh?”
“Oh, you know. Still boring. Not that I want to go through hunting down a serial killer again, but I at least want something to happen. I got my house fixed though!”
“Good, it’s been a while.”
“Yeah. It kinda sucked because there were people here for so long and then I had to go get new furniture but that also meant I got to redecorate.”
“Sounds exciting,” Jotaro said, holding the phone with his shoulder as he pulled a suitcase out of his closet. He turned and sat it on the bed, “I can’t wait to see it next time I’m there.”
Rohan chuckled, “I think you’ll like it. The couch is really nice, I’m definitely guilty of falling asleep on it more than I’d like to admit.”
“I can’t say I’m surprised knowing how you work. Hey, I need to go early, I’ll talk to you soon though.”
“Oh. I guess I did call later than usual.”
“I’ll talk to you soon, next time I’ll call you so you don’t sleep late.”
“That’s probably a good idea. Goodnight.”
“Hey, don’t sound so sad,” Jotaro said, a soft smile on his face. He shifted the phone again, “I promise I’ll talk to you soon. I love you.”
“I love you too. Goodnight Jotaro.”
“Have a good day, I’ll call you soon,” Jotaro replied before hanging up, tossing the phone onto his bed before turning back to his closet to pack.
Jotaro pulled his phone out of his pocket as he got out of the car.
“Hey, this is a surprise. Isn’t it, like, two in the morning?”
“I was up working and figured I’d call you,” Jotaro replied as he walked up the steps to the door, “You busy?”
“Uh, not really. Why?”
“I need you to let me in.”
Jotaro chuckled as he heard Rohan coming down the stairs, putting his phone in his jacket pocket. Rohan flung the door open, “You’re here!”
“Surprise."
