Flame

Summary:

Fire.

Fire has always been apart of Izuku's life. It was his father breathing it out to light his birthday candles, it was Kacchan showing him his explosions when he got his quirk, and it was his mother lighting Yankee candles to make the house smell good.

Now, it was burning his school down to the ground.

Notes:

The lyrics I'm using in here is from the song I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots. I recommend listening to it while reading.

Also TRIGGER WARNING! If you didn't read the tags, there will be death and graphic scenes.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

I don’t want to set the world on fire

The sight from the rooftop was absolutely beautiful, tall green trees surrounding the high school. The clouds looked soft and white against the baby blue of the sky.

Izuku hummed nostalgically as he overlooked the picnic area.

The Dekusquad and Bakusquad were sitting together, happy and laughing. Uraraka, Mina, Iida, and Kaminari were raving together. Shinsou, Sero, Tsu, and Todoroki were all lying on a red cloth shaded by a large tree.

I just want to start a flame in your heart

Bakugo seemed to be laughing at whatever Kirishima had said, causing Izuku to let out a small sigh.

Closing his eyes, Izuku breathed in deeply. The smell of cherry blossoms and spring water was satisfying to his senses, allowing him to sigh in contempt.

It was a nice day, that much was evident.  The cool wind made Izuku shiver and pull his jacket closer to his body.

He wishes it was Katsuki’s. His is always much warmer.

However, even with the nice weather, there was still a large weight on his shoulders.

In my heart I have but one desire

Footsteps caused one of his eyes to open sleepily. The wind ruffled through his hair as he laid his eyes on Katsuki.

It was silent as the two boys regarded each other. Katsuki took steps forward before sinking down beside Izuku, allowing him to close his eyes once more.

And that one is you

Katsuki always carried an almost sweet caramel scent to him. It floated to Izuku’s nose as he relaxed even more, head lolling on the railing as he enjoyed Katsuk’s mere presence.

He always had a way of making him relax.

The sun shined brightly, such a contrast to what night would bring.

No other will do

“Why aren’t you with the other idiots.” It wasn’t a question, but it was said with less gruff than usual, which made Izuku crack a smile.

“I needed a small break. Not used to large groups.” He answered.

In all honesty, he’s never been good with people. That, coupled with his crippling anxiety, sometimes it’s refreshing to get a break.

This was his last chance, though.

Katsuki hummed, and Izuku thought about the tune he heard his mom singing all the time once more.

I’ve lost all ambition for worldly acclaim

The lyrics felt so personal. The desire for someone you love to love you back.

The desire for Katsuki to love him back.

A hot hand came to gently grip his face. He didn’t pause his humming as he accepted the touch.

“You haven’t been sleeping properly.” Bakugo acknowledges. He, still gentle, pulled Izuku’s head to rest on his shoulder.

I just want to be the one you love

“Sleep.” Katsuki demanded.

“Lunch is almost over, Kacchan. And I think Kirishima is looking for you.” Izuku tiredly pointed out. Bakugo scoffed as he forced Izuku’s face in his neck.

“I’m sure Shitty hair will figure something out. And I doubt Sensei will give a damn about you missing the rest of the day.”

Why did he have to sound logical to Izuku’s tired brain?

And with your admission that you feel the same

“M’kay Kacchan. G’night, love you.” There was a hand around his waist and one in his hair as he closed his eyes.  The feeling of Katsuki’s lips against his forehead startled him some, and the remembrance of the other day allowed a smile to settle on Izuku’s face.

Tonight will be fun.

I’ll have reached the goal I’m dreaming of

“I love you too.”

Believe me

The screams were loud to Izuku’s ears as he stood atop of the UA building. His now ex-classmates were running around with urgency as the blue fire spread. The screams from inside the building had long quietened.

The smell of smoke was heavy in the air as the fire burned everything in its path. Piles of ash and puddles of blood coated the ground as quirks sparked from every way.

It was beautiful.

Izuku could see Uraraka look up at them with horror as she decayed. The betrayal was evident, and yet Izuku couldn’t help the laugh that escaped his lips. The forest around them was catching fire, and Izuku knew that the red meant it was from Shoto.

Kaminari’s electricity arched high in the sky, his maniacal laughter louder than the slowly dissipating screams of terror.

There were shouts of triumph as bodies and ash laid before them, celebrations over the dead heroes in training. Izuku looked back to his audience.

I don’t want to set the world on fire

“How does it feel to know you failed?” He asked Yagi. The former pro-hero’s eyes were firmly on the ground, causing Katsuki to growl at him.

“He’s speaking to you, fucker.”

“Down boy.” Izuku teased.

“You...how could you-”

“How could you? You brought all these people to their deaths, All Might. This is your fault, and yet, you can’t even look at what you’ve done. You’re pathetic.” Yagi flinched at the harsh words, closing his eyes tightly. Izuku took out a simple handgun, ponting it to his mentor's head.

“Rot in Hell.” He pulled the trigger, one bullet in each limb. He shot him in his stomach, right where his wound is, and then at the base of his neck. Yagi choked on his blood, falling over and gasing.

Katsuki smirked at the chaos and looked towards Izuku as he let out a care-free laugh.

They finally did it.

The building burnt under their feet, the bodies of both Nedzu and Yagi laid behind them. Bakugou watched as Kirishima got slain by Toga, his scream silent as he fell to the ground.

He felt no remorse.

Izuku carefully tucked himself into Katsuki, smiling into his finance’s neck. Katsuki placed a gentle finger under his chin, forcing him to look up.

The kiss was tender, Katsuki’s hand resting on Izuku’s hip.

“This is who we are now.” Izuku whispered. Katsuki brought his free hand up to tuck a stray hair away.

“No, this is who we always were.” He said firmly. Izuku’s smile was bright as Kurogiri warped behind them.

Aizawa stepped out, hard lines crossing his face.

“Why are you two standing on top of a burning building? Come on, Shinsou, Mina, and Todoroki won’t stop bothering me.” Izuku and Katsuki grinned at Aizawa, causing him to shake his head in exasperation.

The three of them stepped through the portal and onto the ground. They were greeted with the excited group containing Toga, Shinsou, Kaminari, Todoroki, Mina, Shigaraki, and Dabi. Jirou made her way over from near the school to hit Bakugou, dodging when he tried to hit her back.

“We’re all clear. Let’s bounce.” She said, tucking her boyfriend under her arm. Kaminari, the shorter of the two, placed an arm around her waist as they walked off. The large group walked away, laughing and singing, as they left the fiery scene.

I just want to start a flame in your heart.
