Work Text:

Mori let out a blood curdling scream that could probably be heard five miles away.

He looked in the mirror.

No.

He was tired, he was seeing things.

Grey.

A whole host of grey hairs.

Not a sprinkling here and there, but well over an inch of grey sprouting from his crown. His hair was already short and if he let it grow in much more, he was going to look like him.

He already had to work with the man, but he drew the line at sharing a hair colour with Fukuzawa. It needed to be rectified immediately. His phone went off, reminding him he needed to be in the office soon to give out the morning assignments. He sighed, summoning Elise and giving her a shopping list, he made his way to the office. He knew putting a hat on would just draw attention to what he was trying to hide, so instead, he chose not to turn on the main lights in his office, any good Mafia member would be able to navigate using minimal light and he’d always preferred the darkness.

An hour later and everyone was setup with their jobs for the day, and Elise had returned.

“Why did you send me for hair dye Rintaro? You better not be changing my hair.”

“No, no you made your feelings on me changing your hair very clear,” Mori sighed, turning on the light “It appears my age has caught up with me,” he ran his hand through his hair, drawing Elise’s attention to the grey hairs.

“I think it suits you, isn’t it every man’s dream to become a silver fox?”

Mori stood quickly, his chair falling to the floor with a bang,

“I am not a silver fox, you will not compare me to that man.”

Elise sighed, “It’s a popular phrase Rintaro, I’ve heard some of the younger staff members calling Hirotsu-san a silver fox, also isn’t Fukuzawa called the Silver Wolf?”

“See, the grey hairs are eating at my brain Elise! Oh, I thought I would have been murdered before age caught up with me, skip the dye just take me to the nursing home Elise” Mori wished he had a settee to sprawl dramatically over, but instead opted to fake weep at Elise’s feet.

“Pathetic Rintaro!” Elise looked down at Mori, “I want cake for every meal, and a new set of crayons.”

            “Anything my darling!”

“Good, now get up and setup everything for me please.”

Mori nodded and scrambled to his feet, he pulled his chair up off the floor and settled it where Elise pointed. He moved one of his side tables, and covered it in newspaper. As the grey was only at the top of his hair, they had decided to put foils in, so he prepped that along with the dye. Luckily, he had washed his hair the night before, so a quick brush and he was ready.

“Elise, darling don’t you want to cover the dress in case of an accident?”

            “No.”

“But it’s one of your best dresses.”

“Well you can just buy me a new one,” she started checking his hair, “Hmm you’ve got some split ends here Rintaro, go and wet your hair I’ll cut it as well.”

“Are… are you sure Elise? I’ve been deep conditioning it, I’m sure it wasn’t that long ago I had it cut,” there was fear in Mori’s voice, he remembered the last time Elise had come near his precious hair with scissors. Dazai had laughed for weeks at the full fringe he’d ended up with.

“Just a trim, go on wet your hair in the bathroom for me.” Elise smiled, and Mori knew he had lost.

Half an hour later and Elise, true to her word had only given Mori a trim, and had started on dyeing his hair. She seemed quite content working on his hair and Mori wondered if this was something she would want to do more often. With the grey hair covered, Elise put a timer on and handed Mori a magazine.

“I’m going to have my cake now.” Elise informed him, going to the fridge and pulling out the cakes she had bought earlier that day.

“Thank you Elise.” Mori smiled. He laughed when he saw the cover of the magazine he had been given, it was a few years old now, but the magazine featured his favourite accomplishment since becoming the Boss of the Port Mafia – his number one spot as the ‘Most Mysterious Eligible Bachelor in Yokohama’ it only had a silhouette for his picture, and it almost looked like him except for Chuuya’s tacky hat plonked on top, but he would take the win. Elise had finished her cake and had started filing and buffing Mori’s nails, making disgusted noises at the raggedy state of them.

He was engrossed in reading the Agony Aunt column, where there was a knock on his door, followed by it opening,

“Sorry for disturbing you Boss,” Chuuya started, pausing when he noticed the foils in Mori’s hair, “I can come back later?” Chuuya started retreating.

“No!” Mori yelled out before rational thought kicked in, “Close the door please Chuuya-kun.”

Chuuya slowly shut the door behind him, wondering what on earth was going to happen.

            “What do you need Chuuya-kun?”

“I arrived back half an hour ago and you told me I had to come and report immediately about my mission?”

“Ahh yes, well why don’t you have a seat, Elise dear?” Mori called on his ability, “Chuuya-kun has been working very hard and we wouldn’t want his tired brain to slip up and talk about something he saw would we?”

“Of course, not Rintaro.” Elise smiled

Chuuya swallowed, trying to calm the fear, he could probably outrun Elise if he put his mind to it, but he did have a soft spot for the girl and Mori couldn’t be planning something too bad. It just scared him to see his Boss so gleeful.

“Now, now Chuuya, I just thought you’d like to join me in my day of pampering. Elise gives a delightful hair massage and I’ve some new deep conditioning treatments.”

Elise went and grabbed the conditioner, and upon seeing it Chuuya was sold, at 150,000 Yen, the conditioner was out of his price range. He’d had no intention of telling anyone Mori dyed his hair (he already thought he did) but he could play on it to get pampered during work hours.

Elise sent Chuuya to wet his hair and got an extra seat out for him, placing it next to Mori. She gave his hair a small trim, unsure of how to deal with Chuuya’s chaotic curls, before slathering the deep conditioner on and wrapping it in a heated towel.

Two hours later and Chuuya left Mori’s office in a blissful relaxed haze. Once she had taken care of washing the dye out of Mori’s hair, Elise had filed and painted Chuuya’s nails, it was a sparkly purple and Chuuya loved it. Once Chuuya had rinsed the conditioner out, Elise had taken the time to blow dry his hair, he couldn’t stop touching it. The conditioner had made his hair feel like pure silk and it was so shiny it almost glittered. As a parting gift Mori had given Chuuya what was left of the pot of conditioner. If this was the sort of treatment he would get, he wondered if he should enter Mori’s office without an invite more often.

With Chuuya gone, Mori was in the bathroom, obsessively checking his roots. The pure black reassured him, he knew he should go grey gracefully, but he felt far more himself with his proper hair.

“You did a wonderful job Elise dear, thank you,” he smiled, turning to his ability, “now, which bakery would you like to go to first?”

Notes:

150,000 Yen is about £1000/$1300

If anyone could tell me how to bold/italic in the summary I would greatly appreciate it (it took me 10 attempts to get the twt link to work cos it had capitals in it lol)
