“derek?” she asks when he walks through the door of her office. he has a bandage on his upper cheek and a couple of bruises but he’s okay otherwise. he looks at her, a lazy soft grin on his face. “hey baby girl. heard you were panicking.”
and she was, something she had made jj promise not to tell anyone. she shrugs, fiddling with her skirt which is covered in cartoon ducks, her ducky skirt as henry affectionately refers to it.
derek sits down on her desk and she wants to tell him to get off, to leave but she can’t. not when he’s looking at her with those concerned eyes, not when he’s here and he’s alive and she feels safe. safe.
that’s what she feels now that she knows that he’s okay. she takes a deep breath. “don’t you ever do that again.” she says after a moment of silence. “ i mean it derek morgan. i can’t lose you. i can’t.”
part of her feels childish, begging like this, which is admittedly ironic considering that she’s wearing a goddamn ducky skirt but she has to. she has to ask him this.
“you won’t lose me pen. i promise.” his voice is soft and it makes her hammering heart slow down little by little. “i promise baby girl.”
that’s all she needs as she stands up and hugs him, breathing in his gross cologne, letting him wrap his arms around her.
it’s all she needs.
