Work Text:

“Ugh… Do I have to go on a trip with Hajime and Nagito? Nagito’s a weirdo!” Hiyoko complained, climbing on Mahiru’s lap.

The red-head sighed before she readjusted herself for her girlfriend to be more comfortable.

“Don’t be mean to our friends. And yes, you do. You’ll have me with you, remember why we’re doing this; it’s so Hajime and Nagito will get together. They’ve been tiptoeing around each other ever since sophomore year of highschool!” Mahiru reminded the smaller girl.

She was sick of her two friends ignoring their obvious crushes for each other. It was excruciatingly painful to watch. So, she decided to take it into her own hands with a road trip.

She paid for two separate rooms, deliberately with one bedroom in each. Therefore, the two boys would be forced to sleep in a bed together. She hoped something would spark between them during their private time together.

Hiyoko stuck her tongue out before she nestled her head onto the other girl’s neck. She’d never admit it, but she was also hoping her girlfriend’s plan would work. She, too, was sick of the boys' oblivious love for each other.

“Okay, does everyone have everything? Make sure you didn’t forget to bring your necessities! And Nagito, did you pack a warm jacket? You get cold easily, so-” Hajime cut off Mahiru’s ramble.

“Yes, Mom , we have everything. Don’t worry, I made sure Nagito packed his stuff.” The brunette smiled. Mahiru arched her brow in response.

“How am I acting motherly? I just needed to make sure we have all of our belongings! We’re not making a trip back here if you forget anything!” The red-head retorted.

Hiyoko looped her arm around Mahiru’s, tugging her lightly. “Yeah, yeah! We get it, let’s go already! The trip’s long, so let’s get a move on.” Although the blonde was reluctant to go at first, she had slowly built up her excitement as the days passed for the vacation.

The girls took the front seats, with Mahiru driving and Hiyoko in the passenger’s seat, while the boys took the back seats.

Hiyoko plugged in the GPS on her phone, while simultaneously playing as many songs as she could. Mahiru had to scold her because the volume was too loud and she couldn’t focus.

The group had left at sunset; the trip was a few hours so they could avoid traffic jams and few people would be on the road so late at night. It also helped that Mahiru was a skilled driver.

Hajime made it his personal goal for Nagito to experience a decent road trip. The white-haired boy had never been on one before, so Hajime was going to make sure he would have a good time. The four played many games as the trip progressed.

The brunette felt his heart warm once he realized Nagito had been enjoying himself, and he had only said one self-deprecating comment during the ride.

Hiyoko absentmindedly popped a gummy bear in her mouth, scrolling on her phone. Mahiru glanced at the rearview mirror, taking in the scene before her. It was a bit hard to see so late in the night, but she could make out the boys' figures.

Hajime and Nagito cuddled beside each other, well as close as they could be, considering the seatbelts were holding them back. Their hands were intertwined as well.

The blonde turned her body, watching the two boys slumber peacefully. She pulled on a shit-eating grin and held out her phone, about to snap a picture of them. Mahiru whisper yelled; “Hiyoko, don’t you dare!”

“Aww, why not? This would be perfect blackmail material!” The girl whined back.

Fortunately for Mahiru, the car stopped at a red light. She took the opportunity to (lightly) whack her girlfriend on the head. Hiyoko let out a strangled noise, glaring daggers at the other girl.

At least it stopped her.

Eventually, they had reached their destination. They planned to sleep at a hotel nearby the lake they would visit the next morning. Now, the girls had to wake the boys up. Mahiru decided she would be the one to take them out of dreamland. If it was Hiyoko, she would likely scream in poor Hajime’s and Nagito’s face.

She gently shook both boys’ legs, murmuring them out of their sleepy state. Hajime yawned and stretched, as Nagito did the same. It seemed like either didn’t register that they both were cuddling with each other. It wasn’t a rare sight to see them cuddle, but they always labeled it as “platonic”.

Everyone exited the car and pulled out their suitcases, rolling into the hotel lobby.

The worker behind the desk gave them their two keys, bidding them goodnight. The girls waved the boys off, unlocking their door and entering their hotel room.

Hajime moved the key in its lock, twisting the doorknob open. It looked like a stereotypical hotel room. There was a big window across from where they entered and a dresser with a small television on top of it.

Wait, there was only one bed-

The brunette blinked.

He froze for a moment, his thoughts spiraling. Nagito didn’t look phased in the slightest. The green-eyed boy merely approached the room further, pulling out some of his items and laid them on the dresser.

Suddenly, he realized that there was a singular bed. “Oh! That’s strange… Maybe the hotel messed up the bedding arrangement…?” He mumbled.

“M-Mahiru must’ve deliberately done this! She was the one who organized the rooms!” Hajime exclaimed without thinking. Nagito turned his head at the boy.

“Hmm? I doubt you want to share a bed with a disgusting person like me. I’ll sleep on the floor, then!” Nagito smiled cheerfully.

“No, idiot! We’ll both sleep on the bed and that’s final.” The smaller boy declared.

Hajime stared at every nook and cranny of the ceiling above him. He could faintly hear Nagito’s evened out breath. It seemed like the other had already fallen asleep. The lanky boy faced Hajime, curled in on himself like a rock.

The brunette tried his best not to stare. He tightened his fists, trying to get comfortable on the mattress, but to no avail. He ended up twisting over to face Nagito’s body, soaking in his figure.

Blush ran to his face as thoughts left his mind. He leaned close, lightly kissing the other boy on the lips. As he was about to pull away, a tongue made its way in his mouth. He suppressed a moan and almost jolted in surprise.

He was about to stutter an apology, but Nagito pulled him under him, hovering on top of Hajime. He closed the gap between them, kissing the brunette hungrily. The taller boy snaked his hands under the other’s shirt, massaging his sides gently.

Nagito suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. “Haha, god what am I doing?! My selfish desires have taken over and now you’ve been exposed to my hideousness!” He cried, laughing wildly.

Hajime quickly shut him up by pressing his lips onto his. Nagito opened his mouth, their tongues looping together in perfect harmony. They continued to kiss for a few moments until a yawn escaped Nagito’s mouth.

The two then decided to knock out for the night.

Hajime’s eyes slowly opened. He soon realized Nagito curled up on to him like a baby koala. He scrubbed at his eye, shaking away his exhaustion. He took in the other boy’s features. His mouth was stretched into a thin line. He breathed in and out calmly. The brunette didn’t want this moment to end.

As he continued to stare at his… boyfriend? Crush? Friend with benefits? He shook those thoughts away, watching as Nagito stirred awake. A gentle smile tugged on the green-eyed boy's lips.

“G’morning, Hajime.” He croaked, his voice heavy with sleep.

The brunette reached out, cupping his hand on the other’s jaw, rubbing his thumb idly on his pale skin. Nagito melted into the touch.

The boys met the girls at the lobby, venturing off to breakfast, which was provided in the hotel.

As the four ate their food, Mahiru smirked at Hajime all the while. Hajime wasn’t too happy. Once they finished, he managed to pull Mahiru away, telling her his thoughts.

“You did this on purpose, didn’t you?” He growled. Mahiru shrugged nonchalantly.

“What? About the beds? Something needed to be done with you and Nagito. I merely pushed your relationship further.” She replied smoothly.

“Y-You can’t just…!” He stammered. She tilted her head in response, her smirk growing.

“You had a good time with him, did you not?” She inquired.

“I-I…” His voice trailed off. “If you do this again… I won’t forgive you!” He eventually responded.

Mahiru patted him on the back before she nodded, then left him to go to the car where Nagito and Hiyoko waited for them.

The breeze hit Hajime’s face, the sudden coolness relaxing his body. A small smile made its way to his face as he and his friends picked a bare spot on the grass to rest. The lake was a few feet away; the water shining brightly under the sizzling sun. He could hear children laughing carefree as they raced around the land.

The girls laid comfortably on their towels, basking in the sun's heat. His hazel eyes darted towards Nagito. The boy next to him stretched his limbs, smiling gleefully in the lake’s direction.

Suddenly, the white-haired boy pulled him and raced to the lake, running deep into the water. He chuckled as Hajime struggled to keep up.

Nagito playfully splashed some water at the other boy, resulting in his hair dripping with the lake’s water. Hajime joined his laugh, splashing him back in response. The boys wrestled for a bit, Hajime treated him carefully, he knew of the boy’s illnesses, so he knew to take it easy on him.

They swam until they tuckered out and headed back to their spot on the grass. The girls now were in the water, skipping stones, watching it skid onto the surface.

“Hajime…? About last night…” Nagito’s voice spoke up, causing Hajime to flutter open his eyes.

He propped his arm on his towel. He stared deeply into Nagito’s eyes, who laid across from him on his own towel. He swallowed thickly and ignored the furious blush that rushed to his face.

He coughed awkwardly. “Uh… Well…” He mentally scolded Mahiru for her sly plan.

“We both like each other, yes?” A gentle smile was plastered on Nagito’s face.

“L-Last night is proof of that…” He muttered. He fiddled with his towel nervously.

“So… Why haven’t we gotten together yet?” The white-haired boy asked innocently.

“I...I feared rejection…” Hajime admitted, his voice low. Nagito hummed in affirmation.

“I was too, I mean… trash like me doesn’t deserve to be with someone as amazing as you, Hajime.”

Hajime was sick of the constant comments Nagito made about himself, it made his blood boil because it wasn’t true at all.

“Stop with the self-deprecation already! To me, you’re a nice and easy-going guy! You don’t give yourself enough credit.” Hajime’s voice suddenly raised and his brows arched in frustration.

Nagito blinked slowly, staring at him like an owl. His smile strained ever so slightly. He chuffed under his breath, his eyes sparkling under the sun.

“Thank you, Hajime…” He held his tongue, holding in another self-deprecating comment.

The brunette kicked his feet up and stood, shifting his hand out to the other boy to take. The wind howled again and his spiky hair drifting to the side. The boy wasted no time to take his hand, their fingers fitting perfectly together in the other’s hold.

Any critical remark about himself failed to approach his brain. The only thing on his mind was Hajime Hinata.
