Work Text:
TK turned the key, slightly pulling the door to himself to avoid making any noise. Inside the TV was on, a show he had no idea about was playing but the voice was not so disturbing so he let it be there.
On the couch, he saw Carlos sleeping on his side, his back turned to the door. He was probably waiting for TK and fell asleep he thought.
His heart made a little beat he was used to have whenever he saw Carlos, it didn’t matter if they were in a relationship for years now, even married for two years. He smiled and grabbed a blanket from the basket next to the couch, approached to his husband and realised the actual situation very soon.
Between his husband and the couch, their baby girl was asleep on Carlos’ arm, snuggled onto his torso while Carlos protected her with his whole body.
TK just stood there, hugging the blanket in his arms and trying really hard to not sob to the view in front of him. He fished the phone out of his pocket and took a photo before covering them with blanket.
Carlos startled by the weight of the blanket in an instant, holding his head up and checking his surroundings with sleepy eyes, maybe a police-like instinct.
“It’s okay baby, it’s me.” TK whispered and sat down on the tip of the couch, caressing his hair softly.
“Ty? Ugh, we fell asleep here.” He groaned as quiet as possible and held TK’s hand with his free one.
“Was she being a problem?” TK asked, knowing they weren’t able to have proper night sleeps especially these days. She was just a teething 8 months old little baby with fever added to that and sleeping wasn’t easy at all even for herself let alone her fathers.
“She had a little fever at night, I bathed her and it went down. Then she cried when I put her to bed so I took her here to watch TV with me. I guess we just fell asleep after that.” Carlos checked her before shuffling a little and placed a little kiss on her head when he made sure she was still fast asleep.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been so much of a help these days. But I’m here now.” He wanted to snuggle in between them actually, hold both of them and never let them go.
“You did more than enough baby, you were on shift, you did everything you could.” Carlos reached out for his face, gave TK’s cheek a soft rub as his thumb brushed over his eyebrow.
TK closed his eyes with anticipation, he really did his best, ditching the shift at least five times and stopping by their house whenever they were passing by or in the area. Captain Vega was understanding and most of the time she said him to stop by the house. A baby with a fever was an emergency she said.
But TK was glad he was home now, they could finally sleep and get some rest.
He looked at the peacefully sleeping baby again, “Let’s go to our room?” He offered.
“Okay, make sure she’s still asleep though, we can’t afford a midnight tantrum right now.” Carlos begged with tired eyes, then got up as smooth as he could.
TK wrapped the blanket around the little baby’s body, securing her and holding her up directly onto his chest.
“All good let’s go.” He whispered as Carlos led the way to upstairs, their room.
TK laid the baby in the middle of the bed and changed his clothes before he got into the bed, facing his husband and their baby at the same time.
It was such a blessing to have them he thought, as he intertwined his fingers with Carlos’. All he wanted for the rest of his life was this, to have a family, to have someone who loved him unconditionally.
“Carlos...” He opened his eyes as a last effort while he eased off.
“Hmm?”
“I love you. I love our perfect little family.”
“I love you too TK.” He smiled softly and TK figured, this was an image he would remember forever.
