Work Text:
“Please, Kacchan, it’s going to be fun!”
“No way in hell! Leave me alone, Deku!”
They were in front of the studio. Katsuki thought it was only Deku who was going to sing the songs and they’d leave right after. After being Pro Heroes, they both had a lot of screen time on TV, interviews, news and all. In one of the shows Izuku attended, the host asked if Izuku had a nice voice and stupid nerd had to answer by singing a couple of lines. After that, all the music industry just wouldn’t leave him alone.
They have confessed their love to each other at the end of their third year and Izuku had sang him the song he wrote just for Katsuki while he confessed. So Katsuki already knew he had the voice of an angel and the said aggressive and obviously possessive man also never let Izuku sing to anyone else after that. Not that Izuku didn’t sing in the karaoke night after they graduated and celebrated the said graduation. Katsuki was mesmerized by the voice of his boyfriend but got him off the stage immediately, too. Everyone was enchanted by his voice. Katsuki hated that.
So one could imagine how incredibly furious Katsuki was when he watched the said show that night. He was unimaginably jealous of the looks the host and the audience gave his Deku. He and Izuku watched the show together that night and he had to ‘scold the shit outta’ Izuku right after. But again, Izuku found it cute and then they… well.
So now here they were, right in front of the studio of the recording place. Just so that the managers that are trying to reach them ever since could shut up, he agreed with one of them and decided to make a single. If he didn’t do that, Izuku was sure Katsuki would kill one of the managers that crossed their paths one more time. It wouldn’t be a good front page news for the already on edge and kind of feared hero.
What Katsuki didn’t agree with was him singing 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 with his boyfriend. Katsuki would never sing to someone other than Izuku, not definitely for the likings of a bunch of extras. Izuku always told him how relaxing and homecoming his voice sounded to him but it was only this, his voice along with everything he had was 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 to Izuku. He didn’t want it to be public if nothing else.
“But Kacchan, you have an even better voice than I do and you know this song is our song!”
“That’s what’s bothering me, Deku, why would you sing the one song that should be special to us and us alone?! I’m not doing this!”
“But…”
Izuku held the hands of his boyfriend and took a step closer. Their faces were inches away from each other. Izuku had grown noticably since high school. He looked at the crimson orbs of Katsuki. Katsuki loved this, loved it when Izuku looked at him right in the eyes with his own emerald forests. He used to avoid his gazes in the past, because Katsuki was mean to him but since Katsuki apologized, and oh did he apologized a hundred times since they started dating, Izuku began to do it more often. He was looking deep inside his soul whenever he did that. Katsuki didn’t know it was possible for only an eye contact to be this efficient, this full of love and longing.
It was also Izuku’s strongest 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘯 against Katsuki.
“… I want everyone to hear us out… I want everyone in the entire Japan, no, entire world to know how much I love you… And how much you do… I want people to learn our story, the way I love you… The way I learned how to love like you…”
That does it. Katsuki was human too. He had limits. How can he not kiss the beautiful angel in front of him saying all those things? How can he look into those, now glowing with gathering tears, emerald eyes and just say no? He closed the gap between their lips and pecked the latter’s lips softly at first. It was harder than fighting all the League, keeping the soft kiss. So he leaned in closer and bit the greenette’s lower lip a little to ask for permission. Izuku would never say no and both men knew that. Before their little kissing session turned into a more passionate event Katsuki stopped himself. Not now, not here.
“Just... this once.”
“Thank you!”
“You know you’re a devil in an angel suit, right? You knew I couldn’t say no to your… look.”
“I do… And you love me for this…”
“You snotty brat… I do…”
“You do what, Kacchan..?”
Izuku was smirking like the little bastard he is. Like the one Katsuki loved more than anything in the world.
“I love you, Izuku…”
“I love you, too, Katsuki… Now shall we..?”
They got into the room and let the manager welcome them. He talked about how happy and glad he was to do the honors. He said he was so flattered by the number one hero working with him. That’s where Izuku cut him.
“Actually, Mr. Hikari, Dynamight will also be accompanying me today with the recording.”
“What? But, I thought we agreed on-“
“I know our agreement better than you do, Mr. Hikari. The song I’ll sing is actually the song I wrote only for him so it’s special to us. Now, if you agree with this we can get to work at once but if you don’t then I’m going to have to thank you for your hard work and efforts.”
Katsuki was enchanted by how direct and clear Izuku stated his demand. He found it hard to remember the stuttering boy, the shy and anxious boy who couldn’t raise his voice to anyone other than the villains and, from time to time, to Katsuki. Now he was very intimidating and he could see the manager shiver a little from the side of his eye. That’s his boyfriend.
“Ok, sure, Mr. Deku. Uhm, Mr. Dynamight, how is his voice? I’ve never get the chance to listen to him.”
“That’s normal, I don’t sing to extras.”
“Kacchan! His voice is even better than mine, Mr. Hikari, you don’t have to worry about a thing.”
“Oh, ok then. Let’s take you two to the room and start recording.”
They prepared the room for the couple and placed some headphones on them so that they can hear their own voices along with each other clearer. While Izuku had some vocal warming up Katsuki just waited. The manager actually expected a few lines from him to inspect his voice and right because of this Katsuki didn’t even speak until the first note came into ears by the piano inside the cabin.
The first lines were very close to begin and Izuku spaced his lips to sing but Katsuki stopped him and the record by a hand sign. The musician who played the piano was good, he had no words to that but… it wasn’t enough. Everything had to be perfect, not just good, if he was going to make this.
“I’ll play it.”
“You what?”
“Are you having a difficulty in understanding? I. Will. Play. The. Piano.”
“But Mrs. Hana is one of the best pianists in Ja-“
“Yeah, I don’t care. You were not bad, lady, but I want to do it myself. So get up…”
“Kacchan, be nicer to people if you’re going to ask for something!”
“Who says I’m asking-“
He stopped mid sentence because literally anyone would do the same if they saw the looks Izuku just shot. He even gasped silently for a brief moment, though no one seem to notice, thankfully.
“Fine. Can you get up Mrs. Hana, please? Better?”
Izuku sighed and shook his head in a sweet exasperation. Well, that’s how Katsuki was and he knew that’s the best he could ask for from the ash-blonde right now. He couldn’t get angry with him even though he wanted to anyway. So he looked at the lady who was watching with questioning eyes as to what she should do now. He smiled at her gently and spoke with a soft voice.
“Mrs. Hana, thank you so much for coming here today and you’re an amazing pianist. It’s just, this song is so important and special for both of us so Kacc- uhm, I mean, Dynamight wants to do it perfectly and still in a special way. Please don’t get the wrong idea out of it and let him play.”
The said lady looked at the manager who was watching with anxious and unsure eyes for confirmation. Mr. Hikari didn’t seem very pleased by the turn of events, seemingly, but he still nodded to the lady. She left the room with bowing to both heroes and wishing luck. Katsuki sat to the piano and mumbled “As if we need any luck…” under his breath only audible to Izuku who shot him that deadly glares and Katsuki avoided. They rearranged Katsuki’s microphone and after a few minutes they were ready to go once again.
Katsuki felt his fingers tingling. He played this song at their own house more than a hundred times and the chords wasn’t that hard to play. Nothing was hard to do for Katsuki, for goodness’s sake! But now they were in a recording room and people were watching him. One of the said people was that annoying manager he literally hated the moment he saw him. He was clearly looking down on the hero and really worried about Katsuki ruining Izuku’s voice by his own. After all, everyone other than Izuku heard him only shouting curses at villains in battles and only that. Heck, even he didn’t think his voice was good, it was only Izuku who thought that way, apparently.
He realized he was trembling a bit and everyone was waiting for him to start with the first note. He just couldn’t find it in him to start. What if he failed, after he tossed the already good enough woman aside and challenged to be better? Izuku was so excited about this recording, so what if he actually really ruined it? Between his thoughts, he felt a scarred hand on top of his. The gentle hands cupped his big ones and pressed kisses on it’s top and inside. The manager was sure still watching along with some other people on the crew and they had a thing about not to be lovey-dovey in public. He was about to snap at the green haired man but the latter acted faster.
“You know you can do this. You can, because 𝘐 know you can. Just imagine we’re in our living room, imagine the smell of your katsudon being cooked at the same time. Imagine the 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 time I sang this song to you…”
And how the hell was he supposed to snap to this bastard now? Damn him and his pretty lips, eyes, cheeks, lashes, brows, hair and most importantly his 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘬𝘭𝘦𝘴 that Katsuki was sure had some stars stollen from a peaceful night sky. Freckles that he wanted to get lost in. Freckles that he undoubtedly counted every single night and morning while his nerd was asleep. The freckles that was now 𝘩𝘪𝘴.
So he did. He started with the first note, in their living room, at their piano they bought after they started their business as Pro Heroes and decided to live together. The piano that’s been bought solely for this song. He started along with the delicious smell of the Katsudon he made for his beloved, only for him. He wouldn’t cook for any other soul, not even himself when he’s alone at house. He started, dreaming of the day Izuku looked deep inside his eyes and sang him this very song with a voice that even angels were jealous of, the voice who belonged to him now. He remembered the sakura pedals falling down beside them one by one, Izuku holding his hands trembling, Izuku singing the first words and his voice singing out in the beginning. Katsuki remembered how afraid he looked because Katsuki would make fun of him and laugh at him for trying such a stupid thing.
But he didn’t, how could he? He would rather lose his ears than stop the boy in front of him. He would rather die than to make him upset. So he listened as Izuku began with the lyrics, right at the same time as the 18 years old Izuku and Katsuki himself.

Izuku wasn’t looking at the sheets in front of him. He wasn’t looking at the funny looking voice filter either. He was looking at his 𝘨𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘶𝘴 boyfriend on the piano, who was crying but didn’t seem to notice it. Katsuki did oppose to the idea of them singing together at first but Izuku was just glad he agreed to it because there was no other place on earth he’d rather be and nothing other than singing with the love of his life. He was having a hard time not to jump on him and kiss him until both men were breathless and panting for need. He stopped himself, he had to focus on this now.
“𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘐 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘥

After the rise in '𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸', Izuku couldn’t sing the next line because his sob threatened to escape his mouth. So Katsuki sang the line alone and it was such a moment Izuku would gladly rewind again and again forever until the day he died. Katsuki had stopped crying and now he had a more serious face, he played the chords for the second lyrics.
“𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰

It was Izuku’s turn to get lost into tears now. Katsuki sang the song with love and passion at their place too, but this was different. Katsuki was going beyond his limits and singing the song with every ounce of emotion he felt to this day against Izuku. Izuku felt love, admiration, longing, mesmerization, kindness, gentleness, softness, affection, proud and even hate, regret, annoyance at a little scale by the ash-blonde’s voice. He knew those negative emotions were towards Katsuki himself, for hurting the greenette all those years back. He knew Izuku had forgiven him way long ago, he knew Izuku wasn’t even upset and angry at him in the first place when he apologized for the first time and the times after that. It was the ash-blonde himself that couldn’t forgive himself even after all those years. Even after all those kisses, all those cuddles, all those making loves. He couldn’t find it in him to count himself atoned even after hearing his boyfriend saying him ‘I love you’ literally every chance he got. Even after he peppered kisses after kisses to his tears whenever he was reminded of those bad days, he couldn’t do it.
“𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘐 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘥
𝘕𝘰𝘸 𝘐'𝘮 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦

𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸
𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘐'𝘮 𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭…”
Both Izuku and Katsuki was at their limits. They were hardly in control of their instincts to hold each other in their arms and feel each other. Feel the love that is now pouring out of their lips unforgivably. They wanted this moment to last forever and also end immediately so that they could kiss the life out of the other. So that they can remember it forever.
The ending was close but it was always the hardest part for Izuku, he always cried at this part. He always looked deep into the crimson eyes and most of the time, he didn't, couldn't sing it at all and let Katsuki do the honors for him. But today was different, today he had to try. So he sang with all the emotion that's been collected in him through the entire song with the most important person in his life accompanying, his most loved one...
“𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦
𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘧 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘦
𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨
𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦...

𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨
𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶...”
Izuku was again stopped by the knob on his throat for a second and Katsuki elongated the ‘you’ with tears in eyes. They continued.
“𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶…”
“𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶…”
They closed the song with different lines and by the last sentence, Katsuki was looking deep into Izuku’s green big eyes. He never once thought he’d cry in public, let alone because of a song he sang, in public. But here he was, and this was the moment he’d gladly prefer to be got stuck in forever. He finished the song by playing a few notes and than slowly got up from his seat. He threw the headphone somewhere in the room he didn’t see where to exactly. The greenette was doing the same thing but instead of throwing he just set it aside on a couch on his right.
There was no one else around them at that moment. Just the two of them. Even the room and what’s inside of it disappeared. The only thing that’s visible was a pair of glowing green orbs for a certain person and another pair of red for the other.
“I love you more than you can even begin to imagine, Izuku. There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do so that I can see you smile. There’s no one in this world I wouldn’t hurt if they upset you. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you. I could even learn how to love like you, didn’t I?”
“You did, Kacchan… You thought me how to love you and how to love like you, too. I love you, Katsuki. I’d give up on my life for you…”
“You’d do that just for anyone, stupid Deku… That’s not something special to me…”
“You’re right but what everyone can’t have from me is that… I’m 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴. I’ll always be yours.”
“That goes both ways…”
And they finally had the kiss they starved for during the entire song. They did it like how they liked it. Soft and passionate at first, hungry and hard following, complete and satisfied with whines of parting apart in the end.
They didn’t see the whole crew, leading with the manager almost fainting because they’ve never cried harder in their lives. They never saw people leaving them to their well deserved privacy. They never realized their last words towards each other was also recorded and added right after the song…
