Work Text:

Logan checked, double-checked, and tripled checked everything in his bag: He had a blanket, pillow, glasses case, water bottle, a change of clothes, a charger, and a book. All of it was unnecessary seeing as where he was going had all of those things and the journey to get there wasn't long enough to need any of them, but he still packed up his stuff to make his absence less odd if anyone were to ignore the bold note taped to his door saying "Experiment in Progress: Do Not Enter" in bold blue sharpie.

He looked to the clock on his wall, compared it to his wristwatch, and compared that to his phone clock. Exactly 2 in the morning. He slung one of the backpack's straps over his shoulder and very slowly opened his bedroom door, keeping the handle turned to shut it just as quietly as he stepped out into the hall. Logan carried his shoes in his hand to creep down the hall in socks without a sound. Through the living room it didn't make much of a difference in the carpet, but coming down the hall and stairs was far less noticeable that way.

As with most things he did regularly, Logan had his path memorized, timed, and could calculate every step in his head before he took it without much thinking. Stay close to the kitchen island to avoid the creaky floorboard, avoid walking in front of the back door as to not set off the motion sensor light, skip the last step going down the second set of stairs to avoid falling on whatever Remus had laid there, tonight a pile of laundry, and wait outside the door on the far left of the lower hall for exactly 25 seconds and-

He heard a soft click, waited another 5 seconds, and cracked open the door carefully.

"Hello?" He whispered into the room that was somehow darker than the windowless hall.

"I believe we're well past 'Hello'," Janus's quiet whisper came from inside. Logan welcomed himself in, set his bag at the foot of the bed, and sat down next to Janus on the mattress. "Good evening," Janus greeted him nonetheless, and with the flick of his wrist the door was locked again with another click, "You know the would be a lot easier if you'd just turn into a dark side already," Janus said as he wasted no time swinging his legs over Logan's lap and giving him a kiss behind his jaw.

"From how hard it is for you to do your job I doubt I'd be able to do much more, and Thomas can't be without logic,"

"You sure do think highly of yourself," Janus said with a sarcastic snark.

"He would die within 20 minutes, I'm sure of it," Logan said flatly, "And you of all people should understand that knowing your worth is a good thing,"

"It is. I'm glad you know that we're the most important,"

"There's not really one most important- But you're right, we're the most important," Logan realized the lie, or rather sarcasm, and jokingly agreed as he ran his palm over one of Janus's legs.

"Could you at least just pop up next time instead of wasting all that time sneaking down the hall?" Janus complained as he leaned against Logan's shoulder with a yawn.

"It's only 3 and a half extra minutes, and Roman keeps tabs on all summons and teleports. He'd start asking questions if he noticed me coming down here frequently, he'd come for your head if you came to my room, and I doubt Virgil would be too happy to find out if you'd summon me down here,"

"I hear you, but consider this: poison,"

"We can't really die," Logan countered.

"We could make one to make them really sick though, or one to make them forget about it all together,"

"... Would there be a way to reconnect the summons log to Remus instead? He might not check it as often or at all,"

"No, "Janus sighed, "He'd get nosy or bored, review the entire history, and if he's still bored he'll go tell everyone. Even if he doesn't, he'll keep making suggestive jokes until one of us kills him and everyone figures us out anyway. Good idea though,"

"Thanks," Logan said softly, not bothering to reiterate that they can't die ”Any other thoughts?"

"I think we should shut up talking about things that are apparently impossible," Janus said frustratedly, "and watch a movie because I don't feel like getting more depressed,"

He moved up to sit against the headboard to coaxed Logan to sit in front of him and lean back on him. As they settled, Logan brought the covers up over their legs and laid his head on Janus's shoulder, soon feeling a gloveless hand gently scratch his hair. He took his glasses off and handed them to Janus to set them on the bedside table.

"See we need those 3 and a half extra minutes. You're already asleep," Janus teased.

"Cozy up to Roman and Virgil then so you can come up to my room. Dare you," Logan said with a sleepy smile, knowing how to tile up his boyfriend.

"Oh you dare me, do you? Challenge accepted, find me a cookie recipe,"

"I will in the morning," Logan mentally noted as the introduction to whatever movie Janus had picked started and he let his eyes drift shut.
