You too can request a fic by tweeting me @/ollie_vstarr.

I'm experimenting on formatting a little on this one, hopefully it isn't confusing. Hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

Fall was approaching, leaves were beginning to turn color, and Namjoon was out biking getting some fresh air and inspiration after a particularly late night at the studio. (Yeah his studio was in his apartment, but seeing as how he’d dedicated the larger of the two bedrooms to his workspace, he figured it counted.)

School was starting soon, he was only about a week out from his last year of classes before graduating, and he wanted to make the most of his free time. Technically he didn’t /have/ to finish, he was in the program on a scholarship and had already made some money on his songs, but he wanted to finish his production degree and get those last few business classes. The music part he had down pat, the business part maybe not as much. By no means was he bad at it, but the extra practice couldn’t hurt especially since he was in on a scholarship.

Namjoon hummed quietly along to the song playing through his wireless earbuds as he biked. Usually when he was out like this he put on some relaxing instrumental music. For the last few months he’d been fixated on this one artist, myg. There wasn't a lot about him online and he only had a Twitter and Instagram account. All Namjoon knew about him was that he was young, only a bit older than Namjoon himself, he composed mostly classical piano music but also had done production in the past, and he composed the most beautiful pieces Namjoon had heard from a modern composer. He had a way of conveying emotion through his work that Namjoon aspired to. Okay maybe he was a really big fan, having bought both of myg.'s albums after hearing one song on his ‘Recommended For You’ playlist.

As he was rounding a corner, the wind picked up and began to lift Namjoon’s ball cap off his head. On reflex, Namjoon removed one hand from his handlebars to pull it down and… swerved. Into a man standing on the other side of the bike path, causing him to stumble off the path and take a few steps before regaining his balance. Namjoon on the other hand tries to stop, falls off his bicycle and trips, catching himself with his hands. He hissed in pain as he felt his left palm being cut and blood start dripping down his hand. Seemingly collecting himself, the man Namjoon had just hit jogged over to talk to him. Shit.

“Oh my god, are you okay!? Oh shit, looks like you cut your hand there.” The man says, offering a hand to help Namjoon up. Holy fuck he was super pretty. Pale face, bleached hair, black long sleeved shirt and black pants. Black shoes. It was a devastating contrast. Namjoon was sure his face and neck were red with embarrassment at this point as well.\

“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” He replied dryly as he accepted the extended hand and let himself be pulled to his feet. Immediately he released the handsome stranger and removed his glasses, squinting to examine his bloody hand. There was a piece of glass stuck in it, blood seeping out from around it but starting to clot. He knew it was a really bad idea to remove it himself, and it was also from a park so he probably just needed to go to the hospital. Great. So much for a relaxing afternoon, at least he didn’t have a schedule.

“No, no I’m fine. Besides, you’re the one who’s bleeding.” Namjoon shook his head, “I’m the one who hit you, I’m so sorry about that.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. “Just some glass, I’ll just get it checked at the hospital. You’re okay yeah?” The man just waved him off.

“Yeah, totally okay. And that looks painful. C’mon, we can lock your bike and I can drive you.”

Namjoon looked confused, why the fuck was this guy willing to help him? They should just part ways and go about their days. He’d already been enough of an inconvenience. “No, no I don’t want to inconvenience you. You’ve been kind enough, I can just get a cab or something, it’s no big deal.” He bent to retrieve his bike, wincing as he knocked his injured hand against his leg.

He heard a huff and looked up. “It’s no big deal, this is my first time leaving the studio for like a week anyway. Let’s go, what’s your name? I’m Yoongi.”

“Um, sure. Thank you, I really appreciate it. I’m Namjoon, wait did you say studio? Like music or dance?” Namjoon replied without thinking, wheeling his bike as they walked to the car. Yoongi didn’t seem to mind though, reaching for his keys as they neared the parking lot. “Music, yeah. I compose mostly, a bit of producing here and there. I was just out birdwatching, taking a break. A bit of writer’s block I guess.”

“Oh that’s awesome, I’m in my last year at SJA. Production. So that’s ah, really cool yeah. Writer’s block can be a bitch for sure.” Namjoon blushed, but he was honestly excited to meet another musician outside his program. Yoongi nodded, just going with it. They stopped while Namjoon parked his bike at a bike stand, trying to lock it with one hand before Yoongi stepped in to help. Namjoon smiled his thanks, dimples showing. “That’s cool, SJA has great programs. The alum are pretty nice too.”

Yoongi opened the door of his (unsurprisingly black) car and Namjoon got in, making sure to hold the bloody hand over his lap so as to not get blood on Yoongi's leather upholstery. Yoongi reached into the glove compartment and gave him some napkins before closing the passenger door and going to the driver’s side. They drove to the hospital in silence, but Yoongi surprised Namjoon when he found a parking space instead of just dropping him off at the door.

“Ah it’s fine, really. Like I said, nothing planned today. I’d actually like it if you told me more about your program? It’s been a few years, I wonder how much it’s changed.”

Namjoon couldn’t argue with that, and honestly he didn’t mind the company. Hospitals were always a bit uncomfortable as well. He checked in, then took a seat beside Yoongi, reaching up to take out the earbud that was still stuck in his ear. By now the playlist had stopped, but he pulled out his phone to close out the music app anyway. He looked up to see Yoongi peeking to see what he’d been listening to. “I’ll show you mine, you show me yours?” He suggested. Yoongi nodded, pulled up his music app, and handed it over. Namjoon handed over his phone and scrolled through the liked songs. This guy had really good taste, a mix between rap, a bit of pop, and classical. A lot of the same artists he enjoyed as well. He looked up to see Yoongi holding his phone, the profile of myg. pulled up on it. “I’m uh, glad to see you’re enjoying my work.” He said, blushing as he handed Namjoon’s phone back.

Namjoon’s eyes widened and he blushed as well. There was a LOT of myg. on that playlist. Probably all of his songs actually. “Yeah. Uh, really like how emotional it is even if there are no words.” Yoongi relaxed and nodded. “Thanks, that was basically the goal.” He replied, quickly changing the subject. “So SJA yeah? That’s impressive.”

“Yeah, I’ve really loved it there. Lucked out, got a scholarship.” Namjoon answered. He didn’t mean to brag, more explain how he afforded going when he literally biked everywhere. Yoongi raised his eyebrows, settling back into his chair. “That’s really impressive. Producer right? You been able to get any jobs yet?” Namjoon relaxed as well, nodding. “Well we have to master a song for class in 3rd year, but you knew that. After that project though the artist came back to me to work on his EP more instead of just the one song. Change got a good amount of airplay, so that was cool.”

“You’re the one who worked on Change? RM? You’ve got good verses.” Yoongi grinned. Namjoon blushed bright red, ducking his head. “Ah, thanks. That means a lot.” It was the usual response given to any of the people who had complimented him, but he really meant it this time. “Yeah, the school system needs a fuck ton of reform doesn’t it.” Yoongi continued on lowly. This time Namjoon snickered and grinned. Now that was something he could wholeheartedly agree with. “You can say that again.” They shared a look that lasted a moment too long before they heard footsteps approaching and looked up.

“Mr. Kim if you could come with me please?” The nurse glanced at Yoongi, seeing how close they were leaning together. “Your… friend can come back if you want.” She said, turning to lead them back. “Seriously you can go home if you want.” Namjoon mumbled as he stood. Yoongi stood as well and shook his head. “Nah, you’re more interesting and I still haven’t gotten the inspiration I was looking for.”

Once they got back into the exam room, the nurse took Namjoon’s vitals and story as she checked the cut. “Alright, it looks fairly deep, I think you’ll need stitches but we’ll check and be sure. Dr. Hoseok will be with you in a moment.” She said briskly, leaving to page him. Namjoon frowned, but not because of the stitches. He’d gotten stitches before and they’d always nummed it before so it wasn’t a big deal. “Dr. Hoseok? Not Dr. Surname?” He asked out loud. Yoongi shrugged. “I dunno, maybe it’s a new thing. I think they do it in pediatrics at least.” Namjoon shivered, it was a bit cool in the room. All hospitals tended to be. “I’m 28 though.”

Yoongi was unphased. “Ah, I’m 29."

"Ah, Yoongi-ssi then."

"Hyung is fine if you prefer."

Namjoon blushed at the thought they were close enough for that. “That’d be cool, but I wouldn’t want to… I don’t know, be disrespectful or anything.” Yoongi waved him off. “It’s fine, we’re in the same industry and fans of each other’s work… I’m okay with it.” They shared a nod before they heard a knock on the door and it opened.

“Hi there, I’m Dr. Hoseok. Let’s see what you’ve got going on there, glass right?” The man flashed Namjoon a bright, sunny smile before pulling a tray of tools over and washing his hands.

Namjoon coughed in embarrassment, but nodded. “Yeah, I uh, fell and impaled myself I guess. It looked pretty big, too big to try and remove myself so here I am.”

Hoseok rolled his chair over and flicked on the light above the exam table. “Ah, you did good coming in. It looks like it cut fairly deep, might need stitches but I can’t tell until I pull it out.” He reached to page a nurse before turning to regard the two men sitting in front of him angled towards each other. “So if you don’t mind, how long have you been together?” He asked pleasantly.

Namjoon and Yoongi both blushed, not looking at each other. “Ah, I’ve known him for like, I don’t know two hours?” Yoongi spoke up after a pause.

Hoseok blushed, shaking his head. “Oh I’m sorry, I guess I misread.”

Namjoon mumbled, “it’s fine. Nurse gave us a look too.”

Yoong whipped his head around to stare at Namjoon, eyebrows raised and cheeks red. “She- what? Huh.”

Namjoon was still trying to avoid eye contact, but he stole a glance and concluded that Yoongi looked really good with a blush. Hoseok glanced between the two men again, but everyone was thankfully saved by the arrival of the nurse.

“Alright then, let’s get that cleaned up and I’m going to use some numbing spray.” Hoseok explained as he started to disinfect the area around the cut before applying numbing spray. Namjoon just watched with interest as the glass was removed with tweezers and gauze was used to clean up the blood for sutures. He’d almost become a doctor and still found medicine to be fascinating. Once he was stitched up, Dr. Hoseok said his goodbyes and the nurse finished up, telling him to keep the area clean and come back for an antibiotic if there were any signs of infection.

As they stepped back outside, Namjoon breathed deeply, happy to be back in the fresh air. He felt a tap on his arm and saw Yoongi watching him with a nervous look on his face. “Namjoon-ah, would you like me to give you a ride back to the park? So we can pick up your bike.”

Namjoon frowned, “I feel like I’ve taken so much of your time already…”

“No, no please don’t think that. Honestly I’ve… enjoyed today. It’s been awhile since I’ve left the house, let alone spent more than five minutes with another person.” Yoongi replied earnestly.

“Ah, I understand. Well if you really don’t mind, it’d be nice.” Namjoon wanted to continue that ‘it’d be nice to hang out more’, but he didn’t. Yoongi was just being nice, arguably way nicer than he needed to be.

When they got back to the car, Yoongi automatically stepped forward to get the door for Namjoon. He blushed and mumbled a small ‘thanks’ as he got in and closed the door. Yoongi nodded and walked around to get into the car. On the way back to the park, they got caught for about 30 minutes in the late afternoon traffic, but time seemed to pass quickly as they started discussing music and producing techniques.

The sun was about to set once they finally arrived at the park, and Namjoon was relieved to see that his bike was still there. Yoongi pulled up to the curb and parked, rolling down his window as Namjoon got out of the car. Immediately he checked his tires, just in case, you could never tell living in a big city.

Namjoon hadn’t noticed that Yoongi had the passenger side window down until he spoke. “

“Hey Namjoon-ah?” Namjoon stood up from bending to unlock his bicycle from the stand. “What’s up hyung?”

“...Are you doing anything tonight?”

Namjoon sucked in a breath. “Not really, probably just go back home and try to write… maybe watch some Netflix. Why do you ask?” He replied, trying not to sound too excited. This was probably nothing.

Yoongi scratched the back of his head, a light blush starting up his neck. “Would you like to get dinner with me in a bit?”

Namjoon blushed and tried to hide his smile. “In what context, hyung?” He replied in a playful tone.

Yoongi was nervously playing with his piercings. “A date?” He asked hopefully. “Or not if you’d prefer. Either way I’d like to continue our conversation from earlier.” He said the second part quickly, giving an out.

Namjoon grinned, dimples showing. “That would be nice. You can pick me up in an hour?” He pulled out his phone, handing it to Yoongi through the car window.

Yoongi added himself as a contact, then texted himself so they had each other’s contacts before handing it back. “An hour, maybe 90 minutes depending on traffic. And where you live.” He joked.

Namjoon laughed with him, sending his address to the elder’s phone. “Okay, see you hyung.”

“See you in a bit.”

After they parted, Namjoon gave himself a full minute to sit down on a bench and breathe as he tried to collect his thoughts. He had… a date. With one of his idols. A date. With that in mind, he hurried home to get ready.
