Everything else fell away, just Buck’s dominating presence rooting Eddie to the floor. They locked eyes, and Buck didn’t look away.
“So, come up to the lab,” he smirked. “And see what’s on the slab.” Eddie’s legs turned to jello. “I see you shiver with antici—”
Eddie stopped breathing.
Buck’s winked, staring right into Eddie’s soul, “—pation.”

Summary
He stopped in front of her, like he didn't know what to say. Fiona just stared at him. Lip stirred beside her.
"You got a baby," he said.
"Two," she replied, chin jerking toward Lip.
He blinked. Then, slowly, he dropped his bag and unzipped it. He pulled out a sandwich, squished, half-eaten, wrapped in a crumpled napkin, and held it out to her.
"You can have the rest," he said. "It's peanut butter. No jelly."
Fiona hesitated. Her stomach twisted with hunger, but she'd been taught not to trust strangers, even if they were small and sad-looking like her. Still... a sandwich was a sandwich.
She reached out and took it.
"Thanks."
He sat down next to her on the curb without asking. Just dropped his backpack by his feet and let out a sigh like someone twice his age.
"I'm Evan," he said, picking at the edge of his sneaker sole.
"Fiona."
