Summary
Pico moved away from his parents with a distant relative to escape a house and town that brought him only painful memories. Ending up in California, he grew up and drowned his anger, guilt and fears with alcohol, and sped up the process with marijuana. He was spiraling out of control, never wanting to let go of his gun, but at age 17 he met a boy named Keith who changed him.
Although Pico suffered from an anxiety disorder and schizophrenia, Keith was there for him through everything. They even started dating, got into some trouble together, but had fun nonetheless. He thought they had something special, but it came to an end around seven months after they met.
Keith had to move away because his parents decided to get a divorce. He went with his mother to another state, while his father remained. Pico was devastated, and fell back into some of his old habits that he had learned to control when Keith was with him. He stopped drinking because of him, but he continued using drugs.
Three years later, Pico decided to move away. He wanted to change his life, take control once again. He went to New York City with barely any money, and a new love for music and rap. They made him feel safe.
