Chapter Text
Moonlight shone through the curtains as Soobin slowly opened his eyes to find Yeonjun lying beside him.
"Good evening sweetie," Yeonjun said, planting a kiss on Soobin's forehead which made him blush profusely.
"Are the others awake?" Soobin asked, and Yeonjun shook his head.
It was around 8:00 p.m., and the moon was up high in the sky. The thing was, all five of them slept through the day and were active during the night.
Soobin was basically a vampire and sunlight wouldn't really be good for him so to avoid this, he would just sleep through the day.
The other four members decided to adjust to Soobin's sleep schedule so he would feel less lonely.
"I'll make breakfast, sleep more if you want to." Yeonjun smiled, getting up from bed and leaving the bedroom he and Soobin shared.
Soobin however, decided to start the day (or night, rather) productively so he started waking up the others one by one.
Soobin slowly opened the door of Hueningkai's room as to not make a noise, he knew Hueningkai was a light sleeper.
The walls of his room were painted a nice shade of crimson red, and a large desk was placed next to the window- this was probably where he made his dolls.
Soobin found Hueningkai still asleep and approached his bed carefully. He examined the younger boy's delicate features, which almost reminded him of a porcelain doll's.
No one exactly knew why, but Hueningkai loved making dolls and puppets. It was a peculiar hobby, and it was an even more peculiar hobby for a boy his age.
Soobin gently tapped Hueningkai's shoulder and sure enough, the boy easily woke up.
"Evening, Soobin hyung!" Hueningkai smiled, and Soobin couldn't help but ruffle his hair in endearment.
"Yeonjun's making breakfast right now, you can help if you want," Soobin said- he knew how much Hueningkai loved helping around the house.
Soobin next entered Beomgyu's room. His room was honestly a mess, it was filled with knick knacks and other useless objects. Soobin had to be cautious as to not fall for any of Beomgyu's booby traps- that boy loved pulling pranks.
The older sighed as he saw Beomgyu buried underneath his pillows and tangled in between his blankets. He was sprawled across the bed, kind of like a starfish.
"Beomgyu. Up. Get up." Soobin muttered, shaking the younger boy quite aggressively.
"...don't...wanna..." Beomgyu groaned and with his eyes still closed, he threw a pillow at Soobin with perfect aim. Soobin laughed sarcastically- he loved all his other members equally, but Beomgyu was that one person who really, really, loved getting on his nerves.
"Are you testing me?"
And with those four simple words, Beomgyu immediately bolted off his bed and ran out of his room as Soobin grinned triumphantly.
As Soobin entered Taehyun's room, he was surprised to find no one inside. The bed was already made, and there was no sign of Taehyun anywhere.
Taehyun's room was perhaps the smallest out of the five of them, but it was definitely the cleanest and most organized.
The walls were painted black, and small bottles with different colored liquids inside were lined up neatly on the shelves.
Taehyun loved mixing different substances with each other, most of them ending up becoming poisonous and deadly. He never used it on anyone, and the worst he's done was when he took revenge on Beomgyu for pranking him when they were 12 years old.
Taehyun slipped a drop of one of his potions in Beomgyu's drink, which gave him a really bad fever and made him paralyzed for weeks.
Yeonjun scolded Taehyun, but it didn't seem to affect Taehyun at all- the important thing was he got his revenge on Beomgyu.
"Yeonjun- have you seen Taehyun?" Soobin asked Yeonjun who was setting the table with Hueningkai and Beomgyu.
"I dunno, he's probably outside at the garden or something," Yeonjun said.
Sure enough, Soobin found Taehyun sitting in the garden alone, reading a book only illuminated by the moonlight.
"How long have you been here?" Soobin whispered, gently sitting beside Taehyun on the bench.
"Since sunset," Taehyun said sharply, not willing to say another word.
"Ok, so um- breakfast is ready, and everyone's already at the dining table," Soobin said, and Taehyun nodded.
The five of them ate their breakfast heartily, as they exchanged stories except for Taehyun who remained silent.
Beomgyu was in the middle of telling a story about what he dreamt last night when Taehyun interrupted him.
"Give me the salt." Taehyun said, and everyone shut up immediately.
"You forgot the magic word!" Beomgyu whined, looking annoyed.
"Now." Taehyun pressed, giving Beomgyu a death glare. Beomgyu gulped and looked at Yeonjun for help, but Yeonjun sighed exasperatedly and said "Just give him the fucking salt."
Hours passed, and it was 11pm. Soobin was plucking roses from the garden as Yeonjun watched him silently.
"By the way, I forgot to tell you something earlier," Soobin said, and Yeonjun raised his eyebrows.
"What is it?"
"I enrolled Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hueningkai in a highschool. And I was supposed to enroll the two of us for college but that's almost impossible, I'm afraid to say. We need lots of requirements but we haven't even been to school before." Soobin casually said, as Yeonjun's eyes widened.
"Are you insane? Why would you enroll them in a highschool with those... those humans! Remember the reason we're hidden here?"
"Yes- Beomgyu was expelled in elementary for being a troublemaker, Taehyun was expelled for poisoning his math teacher when he was 10, and Hueningkai was bullied just for being himself and he eventually decided to stop coming to school."
"Soobinnie, we both know Hueningkai was bullied for something else, and he didn't stop coming to school- he was expelled."
Yeonjun met Hueningkai when he was just 9 years old, and just a single glance at him he knew the kid was different from other kids.
Behind his innocent looking eyes were something dark and sinister, and the dolls he made were also unsettling as hell.
Yeonjun would sometimes find Hueningkai's dolls missing from the shelves, and the next thing he knew they were sitting on the dining table, on his bed, or in the kitchen as if they were... watching him.
Hueningkai was sweet and affectionate, he really was. But Yeonjun couldn't shake the feeling that all of that was nothing but a facade, hiding the real him.
