Chapter Text
Souta rolled over in bed as his alarm clock went off, signaling that it was time for him to get up for his first day of school at Katagiri High. Him and Yuuna’s, actually. He groaned, turned it off, and sat up in bed, clad in an old t-shirt and pair of boxers. He walked over to his dresser and grabbed his uniform and made his way to the bathroom. Miyamura was already in there, brushing his teeth and getting ready to head to the bakery his family ran.
“G’mrnin, Sou-a!” Miyamura said, toothbrush still in his mouth. He then proceeded spit into the sink. “First day of school, right?”
“Yup.” He replied, smiling at his ‘older brother’. Souta set his clothes on top of the toilet, waiting for the room to be available so he could shower.
Miyamura rinsed his mouth out as Souta nodded. Miyamura smiled and began reminiscing of days when he and Hori were still dating, and Souta and Yuuna were just in primary school. Eventually, he stopped, going to say goodbye to Hori and heading off.
After showering, Souta himself ate and got ready for school. When Yuuna knocked on their door, his mother was begging to see them off, while Kyosuke, his father, got snapped at, like usual. After taking a few photos, Yuriko, his mother, sent them off on their walk to school.
“So, Yuuna. Whaddya bet we’re in the same class?!” Souta smiled.
“Ugh, I hope not, then I won’t have to bear witness to your antics!” She said, as Souta laughed.
“Whatever! You know they’re hilarious!” Yuuna smiled and laughed, shaking her head.
“They’re not, and they’re obviously not helping with your grades, as shown by all of middle school!” she jabbed back.
“Hey, at least I don’t have a giant-ass forehead like you!” They continued like that, back and forth, all the way to school. Yuuna was generally the smarter of the two, while Souta was more popular. They balanced each other out. Souta continued laughing, then he smiled. “You know, Miyamura was right all those years ago.”
“Huh?” She replied, not knowing what he was talking about. “What do you mean?”
“Nevermind.” Souta said, waving his hand.
“Uh alright?”
When they got to school and Souta went to drop some things off in his locker, he noticed a small letter and a bag of chocolates sitting there. Yuuna peeked her head over.
“What’s that?” She asked, looking over his shoulder.
“It’s a bag of chocolates… from my secret admirer.” He opened up the bag and tried one. “Holy shit this is really good! Yuuna, try one!”
He fed one to her, and she nodded in agreement. Even though she was the one that made them, she was still glad he liked them.
“Although, I really pity whoever made them. I’ve already got my eyes on someone.” He said, pocketing the rest of them to save for later. Her eyes fell.
“Who is it?” She asked, hoping for an answer but doubting she would get one.
“Sorry, you’re the last person I can tell.” He shrugged. “Race you to homeroom!”
He took off, and she ran after him, murder in her eyes.
When they got to homeroom, they took their assigned seats. Souta looked around him and saw that kid behind him was only wearing part of his uniform. He had the uniform polo, but underneath it was some sort of t-shirt, and he was wearing jeans and black boots. And he had piercings. A lot. Like, more than Miyamura. He even had a few rings, which were adorned with skulls and the like. Souta found him interesting, and made a mental note to go talk to him at some point, maybe during lunch he’d invite him to come sit with him and Yuuna.

“Alright, let’s break for lunch. Then after lunch, we’re gonna do a scavenger hunt around the room to get to know your classmates.”
Souta quickly found Yuuna and pushed three desks together.
“Who’s the third one for?” She asked, and Souta pointed to the goth looking guy. “You’re crazy. You’re inviting him to come eat with us?!”
“Why not?” Souta shrugged. “He seems interesting.”
“Whatever,” she replied. “Not my fault if you die while going over to talk to him though!”
He grinned. “Hey, we both know that I’m an ace when it comes to talking myself out of bad situations.”
“Yeah sure. That’s why you got suspended in middle school.” She had a flat, annoyed expression on her face, and sighed. Souta laughed and walked over to him.
“Sup! I’m Souta, what’s your name?” Souta sat down in front of him, looking down at his desk. “Woah! That’s super cool! I’m guessing it’s a snake?”
He looked up from his drawing and nodded. “I’m Haru. Why did you come over here?”
Haru said it with a deadpan face, showing no emotion. To Souta, it was kind of unnerving. “Well, I thought you looked pretty cool, so I thought I’d come over and say hi!”
“Oh. Hi.” He said, pausing to think. “Sorry, I’m not super good with people.”
“That is all good man. You wanna come over and eat lunch with me and my friend?” He asked.
“Uhhhh, sure?” Haru replied, picking up a few things and getting ready. “Where are you sitting?”
Souta pointed over to where him and Yuuna had set up to eat, and they both made their way over. Souta sat down, then Haru.
“So, Yuuna, this is Haru. Haru, this is my best friend, Yuuna.” He introduced them to each other.
“Nice to meet you, Yuuna.” Haru said, getting his lunch out.
“You too, Haru.”
“So Haru, I gotta ask, what’s that t-shirt that you’re wearing under your uniform?” Souta asked, curiously.
“It’s a death metal band. A western one, called Carnifex.” He explained. Souta oohed.
“That’s pretty cool!” Souta replied. “Oh also, can I get your opinion on something?”
“Hm?” Haru asked.
“Isn’t Yuuna’s forehead huge?”
As soon as he said it, she spewed milk all over him.
“Oops.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Alright Souta, I’m heading off! I gotta drop by somewhere before we do our homework, I’ll meet you at your place okay?” Yuuna said to him, and he nodded.
“Sure! I'll see you later!”
Yuuna made her way to Miyamura’s family bakery. When she walked in, he was behind the counter.
“Yuuna! What can I do for you?” He asked, a smile on his face. Yuuna pulled out her wallet.
“One fruit tart please.” She requested, and Miyamura went to get it from behind the counter. “I put the chocolates in his locker.”
“Good! How did it go?” He asked, placing the tart on a plate and handing it to her. “Here you go.”
“He liked them. He’s just too oblivious to realize that it’s me.” Miyamura laughed at that.
“That
does
sound like Souta.”
