Work Text:
In the few months since Bucky brought home Bailey, Christopher has managed to teach him some tricks.
Like sit and lay down and give his paw.
And play dead.
And with April Fools Day in a few days, Christopher decides to formulate a plan...
Bucky still hasn't moved in with them officially - daddy said something about the lease on his old apartment not being up yet - whatever that means. But, he stays over all the time.
Christopher trains with Bailey whenever he can, and he’s got so good at not moving until Christopher says so.
When April Fools Day finally comes around, Christopher is up and ready for school before anyone else. He slowly leads Bailey into the living room and stops next to the couch.
“Okay boy. Sit.” He orders. Bailey sits.
“Now lay down.” Bailey lays down.
“Okay, play dead.” Bailey flops over, closes his eyes and lolls his tongue out.
He really does look dead.
Christopher grins. “Okay. Stay boy. Stay.” He orders.
And then, races off down the hallway with his crutches to bang on his dads door and open it.
“Daddy! Bucky! Somethings wrong with Bailey!” He forces himself to cry.
Bucky leaps out of bed first, rubbing his eyes sleepily. Daddy follows him closely.
“What? What’s wrong with him?” Bucky asks.
“I don’t know! Come quick!” Christopher tells them.
Bucky and daddy follow Christopher back to the living room, where Bailey is still lying on the ground, not moving.
“Oh my god.” Daddy whispers.
“Shit.’ Bucky swears as he runs over to Bailey and kneels down beside him. ‘Ed’s call the vets!”
Daddy grabs the landline and is about to dial the vets, and Christopher giggles. Daddy and Bucky look at him with frowns.
“Bailey, up boy!” He orders.
Bailey barks as he opens his eyes and slowly climbs to his feet again, licking Bucky’s face when he sits back on his feet. Christopher goes over and pets him and tells him he’s a good boy.
“You taught him to play dead.” Daddy groans.
“Yep!” Christopher grins.
“I need a coffee.” Bucky sighs as he climbs to his feet.
Daddy shakes his head, but he’s grinning as they all make their way through to the kitchen.
“Did we get you good or what?” Christopher laughs.
“You got us good, kid. I nearly had a heart attack.” Bucky tells him, but he’s also smiling, so Christopher figures he isn’t in any trouble.
“Happy April Fools Day.” Christopher tells them with a grin.
“Yeah yeah, don’t look so smug. I’ll get you guys back.” Bucky warns with a wink.
Bailey nudges Christopher’s hand with his wet nose, and he gives him a treat for being such a good boy.
