Work Text:
Hizashi and Eri were so adamant about having fairy lights in every room of the house, and Shouta had never understood the appeal until now. Now as the omega woke up, the twinkling lights set a peaceful mood as the sun slowly started to creep up the horizon and made his chest warm as he saw his husband’s face slightly illuminated by the twinkling. Shouta has never been a morning person, but something about today felt right and made him want to get up. In fact, this was the first morning he has woken up the past couple days without the burning heat and itch in his skin. He finally feels content.
Shouta slowly inches his way up his mate’s chest and sits himself down gently on his stomach. While Shouta isn’t usually very affectionate, he knows how much Hizashi loved to be showered in love, so he was more than willing to give it to him in the privacy of their bedroom. Shouta starts peppering kisses up his husband’s neck, lightly nipping at his bond mark. Hizashi starts to stir, works every time.
“Mmmh.”
Shouta continues placing soft kisses up his cheek and forehead, enjoying their scents being intertwined so well after the last few days.
“Well, good morning to you, too. Heat finally break?” Hizashi asks, leaning into his omega’s touch.
“Yeah.”
“Good,” Hizashi says, flipping them over to give his husband a real kiss.
“You always smell good, but damn do you smell like a whole damn meal right now,” Hizashi says before licking a stripe up Shouta’s neck.
“Stop trying to get into my pants after a whole heat of getting into my pants,” Shouta jokes, pushing Hizashi away teasingly.
“Alright, alright. Coffee?”
“I love you.”
Hizashi lets out a laugh that was borderline quirk use, but still got up and threw on a pair of boxers before making his way downstairs to start a pot of coffee.
Shouta sits up in bed and brings their sheets up to his face, inhaling the scent of his mate before sitting up. He feels more content than usual after a heat, but thinks nothing of it. Must be the fact that this is a Spring heat instead of a cold, Winter one.
After eating a real meal for the first time in a couple days instead of granola bars and snacks in between heat flare ups, Shouta and Hiazshi go around the house and open up the windows. They would both prefer their pups to come home without being suffocated by a house that smells completely like heat.
Hitoshi was fine staying in his dorm, but Eri got to spend a couple nights with Emi and Nemuri in their apartment. It was a relief to finally have a heat after a couple years. With Eri being wary around other adults for a while after Shout and Hizashi took her in, the omega had to go on pretty strong suppressants to avoid a heat. There was no way they were going to send a traumatized child away for a few days, but since she had warmed up to the alpha couple, he was finally able to have his heat.
The bonded pair enjoyed time catching up on work in comfortable silence when the doorbell rang, signifying that Eri was home. The minute Hizashi opened the door, he had a little ball of excitement barrel into his arms.
“Daddy!”
“Hey, Little Listener! I missed you!” The alpha scooped her up into his arms and took the backpack from her shoulders. At this point, Shouta had come up to the two of them and reached out to smooth Eri’s hair and place a kiss on her forehead. “Shall we get your things unpacked?”
With a nod, the two of them race up the stairs, leaving Shouta at the door with Emi and Nemuri.
“We still got a pot of coffee, interested?” Shouta asks, pointing to the kitchen.
“You bet your ass we’re interested!” Emi says with a laugh, dragging her wife into the house.
Shouta lets out a sigh. Don’t get him wrong, he loves his friends, but he’s tired and they’re loud.
“Make yourselves at home, you know the drill,” the omega says while pulling out a stool to sit at the kitchen counter to continue working on his lesson plans for the upcoming week. The two alphas were over often enough to have their own hero themed mugs in their cupboard. Nemuri even keeps her own container of creamer in their fridge.
Emi leans on the counter and closes Shouta’s laptop. The omega gives her the most dead look. He had to remind himself that she just took care of his child so that he could spend some time with his husband.
“Really?”
“Yes really! You can’t expect us to drop off Eri and a couple days earlier than planned and not have questions. I mean come on, Eraser! Your heat ended early and this house smells like the most content omega even with all the windows open.”
“Spill!” Nemuri pipes in, wrapping an arm around Emi’s shoulder. Both of them lean closer to Shouta in hopes that he’ll speak up.
Shouta takes a long sip of his coffee before narrowing his eyes at them. “There’s nothing to spill, it was a normal heat.”
The two alphas groan.
“Come on, you’ve gotta give us something juicy.”
“I am not talking about heat sex with you when my daughter is just upstairs.”
“So you’ll talk if Eri goes on a walk with Hizashi?” Emi jokes.
“No, Emi-”
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding,” she said putting her hands up in surrender. “But both you and I know why a heat ends early," she continued while wiggling her eyebrows at him.
“Are we expecting a mini Hizashi running around in nine months?” Nemuri joined in.
“You guys think you’re so funny, don’t you?”
“We think we’re so serious,” Nemuri mumbles into her coffee.
“Listen, I just got off heavy suppressants and haven’t had a heat for like two years, of course I’m going to have a weird cycle for a little bit. Besides, I’m on birth control.”
“Whatever you say, Eraser.” Emi winks at him. Okay, enough socializing.
“Get out of my house,” Shouta deadpans.
“Aye, aye, Captain.” The two female alphas give him the cheekiest grins before embracing him and rubbing their scent glands over his neck. It’s comforting to be scented by his pack, but he refuses to admit it. If he leans into their touch then that is his business and his business alone.
---
Two weeks later finds Shouta cooking dinner in the kitchen when Hitoshi walks past.
“Woah, where are you going looking all handsome?” Hizashi says, walking up to his son and straightening out the collar of his shirt.
“Taking Denki out to dinner, anniversary,” Hitsohi replies while wiggling his eyebrows.
“Two years?”
“Yeah, he’s been talking about tonight all week.”
Hitoshi walks behind his omega father to grab a glass from the cupboard, but halts when he hears him make a terrible noise.
Shouta can’t help but gag at the terrible and suffocating stench. After a stressful Friday, he just wanted to relax at home with his husband and children, but now he felt he was going to be sick all over their dinner. Great, he was not in the mood for this.
“Ugh, Hitoshi what the hell are you wearing?”
“What, Dad’s cologne? I just wanted to smell nice for my date.”
“Please for the love of God take it off,” Shouta gets out before he has to clamp a hand over his face again. He knows that came off sounding mean, but he really did not want to throw up in the kitchen.
The confusion was evident in Hitoshi and Hizashi’s faces.
“Babe, I think he smells totally fine. Anyways, you like that cologne, that’s why I keep buying it,” Hizashi says, massaging his shoulders. Shouta does not want to deal with this right now.
“Jesus, well it must have gone bad. Take. It. Off. Please,” Shouta grits out between his clenched teeth.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I’ll go take it off,” Hitoshi surrenders.
But it was too late. As Hitoshi walks by, he gets a stronger waft of the cologne and slaps a hand across his mouth, rushing to the bathroom. Please make it, please make it. Shouta did not want to add cleaning up vomit off the floor from his list of crappy things he has to do today. Luckily, the bathroom unlocked with the door easily pushed in. Usually, you had to jiggle the handle to get the door open, but hey, little miracles.
This sucks. Shouta’s relieved that he made it to the bathroom, but the acid in his throat is definitely not pleasant.
Two sets of footsteps come running down the hallway after him.
“Shouta! Are you okay?” Hizashi says, sitting behind him and pulling the hair out of his face.
“Peachy.”
Eri peaks her head into the bathroom. “Is Daddy okay?” The look of concern on her little face broke Shouta’s heart.
“Yeah, baby. I’m just a little sick right now, don’t worry about it.”
Hizashi rubs his back in circles and releases his calming scent to alleviate some of the anxiety seeping out of his mate. Luckily, Shouta is not sick like this very often, but Hizashi always knows how to relieve his sickness.
When Shouta finally feels his stomach settle, he leans back against his husband who wraps one of his strong arms around his waist. The other cool hand comes up the press against Shouta’s forehead.
“You don’t feel warm, but do you want me to stay home tonight? I can stay with Eri, so you can sleep. I have a ton of favors that I can cash in at the station.”
As tempting as it seemed, Shouta knew that he would be fine later.
“No, that’s okay. I’m pretty sure I must have just caught a bug from the school. Those kids are walking germs.”
“Okay, but I’m calling you out of your patrol tonight.”
“Hiza-”
“Nope.”
“Ugh.”
---
Later that night, after tucking Eri into bed and making sure she was asleep, Shouta stands in the same bathroom he was throwing up in several hours earlier.
“This is just to rule it out. It’s no big deal, it’s no big deal,” Shouta mumbles to himself, trying to calm his nerves. He digs through the bathroom cupboards and closet, trying to find the pregnancy tests he bought when he and Hizashi first bonded. Never before has he had to take one of these tests. He’s never had the symptoms, and he’s never doubted his birth control before.
“Okay, just pee and then wait three minutes, no big deal.”
Shouta goes through the motions and sets it on the counter before sitting on the edge of the bathtub. Three minutes seem like three years right now, but he knows there’s no rushing this.
Even before they got married, Shouta made it clear to Hizashi that he never wanted to carry a pup. Shouta worked so hard to become a hero despite having a psychological quirk and being an omega. He refused to take time off from hero work at the time, and he didn’t want to give up the body he worked so hard to sculpt. It was harder for omegas to gain muscle, and he was not going to throw all of his hard work down the drain in a matter of nine months. That’s why they ultimately decided to adopt Hitoshi and Eri, and they have been as happy as possible. They both knew they were fit to be fathers, just not biological and that was okay.
The timer goes off and Shouta flips over the test.
Shit.
He takes another test.
Shit.
And another test.
Shit.
Shouta lays all three tests next to each other and just stared at them, trying to comprehend the results. So maybe they would be fathers to their biological pup. After so many years of telling Hizashi that he didn’t want to carry pups, he feels guilty or actually wanting this one. Over the past couple years, he realized just how much he loves being a father and wouldn’t mind another pup. Is that not hypocritical of him?
Shouta’s stomach starts to turn again and places his hands over his stomach.
He’s not going to think about this right now, besides the tests are old and might not even be accurate. Who is he kidding, that’s not rational at all. Besides the point, he is not in the right mindset and will wait for Hizashi to even think about it.
“Don’t think about it. Don’t think about it. Don’t think abou-”
“Dad?”
Shouta was not paying attention and whips his head around to find his son standing in the doorway. Play it cool, the last thing Shouta wants is for his pup to see him panicking.
“Hey, Toshi. I was just about to make some tea, want some?”
“Sure,” Hitoshi says, hanging up his jacket and taking his shoes off.
Shouta starts boiling the water while sitting at the kitchen counter again. Once the tea pot whistles, he pours the two cups of tea. Hitoshi pulls out the stool next to his dad, and takes his cup.
“Denki as much as a goofball as always?” Shouta says, nudging his son’s shoulder with his own.
“You know it.”
A comfortable silence falls between the two of them as they sip their tea.
“You smell like milk,” the young alpha says casually.
“Excuse me?”
Hitoshi shrugs. “I don’t know, you smell different, milky almost.”
Shouta freezes. He knows that Hitoshi wasn’t with his biological parents growing up or ever really around a pregnant omega, so he must not associate the milky smell with a pupped omega. Still, most pups and omegas responded to the smell. Shouta doesn’t know how to explain to his son the change in his scent without just telling him the truth. Screw not thinking about it right now.
“Can you keep a secret?” Shouta asks.
Hitoshi quirks an eyebrow at his Dad. “What kind of secret?”
“Kind of a big one.”
“I like to think I can for a certain price,” Hitoshi says, jokingly rubbing his fingers together and smirking.
Shouta pokes his side to tickle him. “You are such a little shit.”
“Hey, you chose me,” Hitoshi jokes.
“Yeah, we did.” Shouta guides his son’s head to rest in the corner between his shoulder and his neck to scent him.
Shouta thinks for a moment before deciding since Hitoshi asked, he should know.
“I’m pregnant.”
After the words come out, Shouta can feel his heart stop at how Hitoshi immediately twists around to look his father in the eyes.
“No shit, really?” Hitoshi’s face was completely lit up.
Shouta nods, looking completely bewildered. While he didn’t necessarily expect a negative response, he also didn’t expect one of pure excitement.
“Dad! That’s so cool!”
“Really?”
“Yeah! I mean I love Eri, but I think it’d be cool to have a little brother to pick on. Not to mention someone to look up to me, Eri already has it figured out that I’m actually lame,” he jokes. A laugh bubbles out of Shouta’s throat. Eri and Hitoshi have been acting more and more like siblings the past few months, picking on one another and teasing each other. It never got out of hand, but they definitely took the role of siblings to heart. At first, they were awkward around each other and acted more like acquaintances, but now they definitely took the role of the teasing older brother and annoying little sister to heart.
“You are seventeen years old, you should know by now that we don’t get to pick the gender.”
“I know, I know. I was kidding, but really I’m excited,” Hitoshi says, taking his place back on his Shouta’s shoulder. “So what did Dad say?”
“I literally found out ten minutes ago, so he doesn’t know yet. How about we keep this between you and me for a little, and you just act surprised when we finally tell you and Eri.”
Hitoshi’s laughs shake his shoulders. “You got it, Dad.”
“Good. Now go to bed. Don’t think I didn’t notice you trying to sneak in past curfew.”
“Ahaha,” the young alpha nervously laughs while rubbing the back of his neck.
As Hitoshi heads upstairs, Shouta picks up his tea and thinks. He and Hizashi had gone so many years without any pups then gained two of the best pups he could ever ask for. And now they have another pup on the way. Shouta hates to admit it, but he’s already attached to the idea of a new pup.
---
The next day Shouta wakes up in his husband’s arms. He felt completely calm and at ease until he noticed Hizashi’s hand resting gently on his stomach, making him remember the pup. He doesn’t mean to, but he’s so overwhelmed with emotion that tears start spilling down his cheeks. This must be the pregnancy hormones because there is no way he would have done this normally. His husband was the crier, not him.
Shouta feels Hizashi stir from the distressed scent of his mate filling the room.
“Hey, hey, what’s wrong?” Hizashi rushes out. This must be such a weird sight for him.
Shouta thinks back to all the times Hizashi has been concerned or upset with his mate and most were because Shouta felt like he couldn’t open up. He has to do it. He can’t hide this from his alpha for very long, anyways. The omega takes a deep breath in, but before he can get the words out, Hizashi speaks up.
“You’re pregnant, aren’t you?”
Shouta gapes at him. “What? How did you know?”
Hizashi runs his hands up and down his mate’s arms before gently massaging his shoulders in an attempt to relieve some of the tension.
“After I got back from the station, I saw three positive pregnancy tests in our bathroom and figured they weren’t from our alpha son,” Hizashi explains. Dammit. In his panic, he must not have covered them properly. Shouta was always prepared and always on top of everything, so if these changes are because of the pregnancy, it was going to be a long nine months.
Hizashi smiles and presses delicate kisses to his mate’s forehead.
“You’re not mad?” The question made Hizashi gently lift Shouta’s face to look him in the eyes. The concern was evident on his face.
“Why would I be mad?” Hizashi asks. Kind of an odd thing to be asked when your mate just confirms a pregnancy.
“I said no to pups all these years and now I’m pregnant,” Shouta says like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. The logical side of his brain was not turned on right now, he was too overwhelmed in emotions.
“Shouta, baby, I love you and would never be upset with you. I get that it’s your body and that I never had a say in the issue, Hizashi says. He combs through his mate’s hair with his fingers. “Besides, we have the most amazing pups in the world even though they might not be related to us biologically, and if you want this pup then I’m super excited to have another pup with you, but if you don’t, I’ll still support you all the way. Shouta, I love you.”
“Oh.”
They lay in silence for a few minutes just enjoying each other’s presence before Shouta speaks up.
“I want the pup.”
“Yeah?”
Shouta nods. “Yeah.”
Hizashi captures his mate’s lips with his own and brings him close. This was definitely a surprise, but not anywhere near a bad one. Once they break the kiss, Shouta groans.
“I just realized that I’m going to have to admit to Emi and Nemuri that they were right about me being pregnant.”
