Summary:

Quill falls into the void.

Work Text:

A trip to the end was always surprising to Quill. He never really went, mainly because he didn’t want to fall into the void. Whoever fell into the void didn’t come back. They were just... gone. A terrifying thought, for sure, and it didn’t make it better that he was there with Fuji. The eyepatch-wearing dog hybrid was sure to make this trip anything but smooth. He’d only come to quote-on-quote ‘help’ Quill get his elytra, since he already had one. Of course, the wolf had protested, saying he was perfectly fine on his own, but the server admin, Robo, said that it was a good idea.

A voice snapped Quill out of his thoughts. “Hey, wolf boy, c’mon, there’s an End City over here, dipshit.”

Quill huffed and checked his inventory for rockets. For once, he was glad he’d done a lot of grinding. “I don’t need your help, Fuji,” He sighed. “I’m only with you because Robo said it was a good idea.”

“Trust me, Quill, you won’t last long with that attitude,” Fuji’s eye glinted dangerously. “I’d suggest you close your mouth and grab what you came for.”

Quill growled but didn’t say anything, grabbing a few stacks of cobble and building up to the ship. He slid inside and quickly killed the Shulker and snached the elytra. He put it on and flew back down to Fuji. “There, done and done. Let’s go.”

Fuji strapped on his own elytra, but before Quill could even fire a rocket, The hybrid drew his sword, stabbed the wolf, and shoved him off the edge of the island. The first thing he noticed was the cold. The second was the crushing pressure in his head as he fell. The third was the sinister grin on Fuji’s face. He tried to turn over but was shot with an arrow, and he fell harder into the infinite nothingness. His head spun and sleep overtook him.

Quill fell into the void.

Spriggles was tending to her bee farm when it happened. The slime hybrid’s communicator let out ding and she checked it, and it felt like her heart fell into her stomach. She held her hand to her mouth, tears pricking. “...Quill. Quill, no, God, no...” She whispered, looking through the glass of her apiary and at the house of her friend. “Quill...”

-

Kit blinked once, then twice. The pink cat didn’t take her roommate seriously when he said he’d throw Quill into the void if he had a chance, but... he’d done it anyways. She wouldn’t celebrate his death, the kid didn’t deserve that way of going, but she also didn’t really care too much. If only Quill had taken his threats towards him more seriously.

JJ huffed and checked his communicator as it dinged. He didn’t believe what he saw when he read the message, though. “Oi, Mitte, am I reading this right?” He called to his roommate, as to which she yelled back from their kitchen.

“What’s the matter?” She asked, fixing her twin ponytails and sitting down. Her own communicator was on the table, and she put it on. “Wait a minute...” She narrowed her eyes. “The void?”

JJ nodded and adjusted his glasses. “I thought he and Fuji were just getting an elytra, though... surely that wouldn’t normally happen?”

Mitte shook her head, grimacing. “Fuji’ll be back soon enough, though. He set his spawn in his shop, as far as I’m aware. We’ll just have to wait.”

The two looked at each other, concern clear in both their eyes.

Cobra had just finished cleaning up Sheepish Grin Inn for the night, patting Moffin on the head. He double-checked the message that had just been sent into the chat, only to feel his heart leap into his throat. “Dear God, Quill,” He whispered, brushing his white hair out of his face. Moffin meowed and licked a tear that Cobra wasn’t even aware started falling. “...I’m going to kill Fuji for allowing this to happen.”

-

Keeb was mining when his arm buzzed. He let out a horrified scream when he actually read the contents of the message and ran out of the mine, climbing up the ladder to his and Robo’s treehouse and collapsing as soon as he got up. Robo raced over to him and let the robot lean on her shoulder. “Keeb, breathe, it’s okay.”

Keeb shook his head and sobbed into his friend’s shoulder, shaking violently. Robo was shaken up, but she knew she couldn’t do anything now.

Fuji didn’t care what’d happen if what he did were to be revealed. He had no reason to, after all. If anything, Quill was out of his way now. It was annoying to have the blue wolf be onto him after all, so what better way than killing him permanently and spinning a web of lies that it was an accident? Nothing. Nothing was a better plan than this.

He leaped through the portal home and shot up in his bed. He put on a fake, panicked expression and bolted from his shop, rushing to Mitte’s house.

JJ was already waiting for him. “Fuji, what the hell happened in there?!” He yelled, grabbing the dog hybrid by the shoulders. “You were supposed to make sure this didn’t fucking happen!”

Fuji shook his head, pushing JJ away. “No, no, he was trying to tower up and fell off. I couldn’t grab him, I’m so fucking sorry.” He whispered, eyes wide.

This was all going well so far.

Quill woke up to the feeling of dry leaves on his back and his head pounding. It was an odd feeling for sure, but as he sat up, he realized this looked nothing like the worlds he was familiar with. It all looked too... peaceful. There were no buildings either. He stood up and leaned against a tree, eyes wandering. A small squirrel was running about and stopped to stare directly at him. Quill went to withdraw his sword but realized he had nothing on him. “Shit.”

It ran off and he began walking towards what looked like a clearing, but he soon came to realize it was a town full of people who looked nothing alike what he was used to. Quill skirted the edges of the crowds and headed into a quieter part of town. He sat in an alley and fidgeted with the strings on his hoodie. A brown and black cat was sitting on a trashcan and stared at him with pure black eyes, one dripping with the same black and the other with a white pupil.

Quill sat his paw down next to him, only for it to land on a disc. He read the label.
