Year 2020, April 3rd Friday. Gyeoul is looking at her desk calendar with colorful marks of mostly work related notes. But nothing shines the brightest than that red pen marking at the date of April 3rd.
❤️ That's how she marked it. How wonderful it is that it's almost 100 days since the night when she leave all her pride behind to bring all the courage she can fit inside his office. She asked him, "Gyusonim, can you stay by my side instead of God's" and confessed "I liked you". And luck or maybe God is on her side, because this request slash confession was answered, the only difference was it was answered by a guilty touch followed by a kiss of affirmation and lastly by a warm embrace that she very much needed in that snowy night.
It's already Thursday and she already has a fair idea on what she wants to do to celebrate this special day.
That monday...
"Gyeoul-ah." Jeongwon called her name nervously while she's cutely munching her double bacon sandwich.
"Ahm, chogi, ahm.. Ahh"
Gyeoul is looking at him, her brows furrowed and tilted her head trying to grasp what he is about to say.
"Gyeoul-ah, this weekend I was wondering if... If"
"If what, Gyusonim?" Gyeoul asked impatiently.
"It's actually the holy week next week and it's a tradition of me and Eomma to do Visita Iglesia and I won't be around Seoul starting next Thursday until Sunday. A--a and, I'm just wondering, do you want to spend the whole weekend with me?" He finished his sentence in one breath.
"Why don't you just invite me on that...that.... "
"Visita iglesia" Jeongwon finished her sentence.
"Oh, that Visita Iglesia, it must be fun!"
Gyeoul teasingly looking at him trying to control her smile by pursing her lips. She knows the reasons why Jeongwon not inviting her to that tradition because first, she doesn't practice catholicism and Jeongwon must have know her schedule that week and it is impossible for the lone GS resident to be away from the hospital that long. She also thinks that this must be a good mother and son bonding for Jeongwon and Mama Rosa.
"oh Mianhe, I didn't thought about that, do you want to join?" Jeongwon invited her albeit belatedly. He's now guilty of not even thinking that Gyeoul might also want to join them even though she is not a catholic.
"Haha.. Aniyo, I'm just teasing you. You know I'm on my last year of my residency and I cannot afford to have that long day-off. Enjoy your time with EOMMEONIM and don't miss me too much."
"Eotteokaji? I'm already missing you just thinking about I will be away that long"
"It wasn't even that long, it's just 4 days Gyusonim, and we are going to see each other again at the hospital"
"So what do you say about this weekend? Can we make up for the days that i will be away this weekend?" Jeongwon asked again, now more than hopeful for her to say yes.
"Hmmmmmmm...." Gyeoul put down her sandwich to think.
"Ahm how about let's start our weekend together on Friday?" Gyeoul has a better idea, because it's their 100th days anyway.
"I actually will ask you also the same question, you just beat me there" Gyeoul continued.
"But, don't you have a shift that day? If I remember it correctly when I checked the GS sched, you are scheduled to have your day off starting Saturday. Does that change?"
"No it wasn't but Lee Ikjun Gyusonim told me yesterday that I can go home early on Friday." - - or rather, she asked Ikjun to be off early that day, of course she doesn't told him the reason but Ikjun was more than happy to approve it because it is the first time for her to request for an early out.
" OH really? That's awesome THEN! But I don't think I can be off work early that day, can you wait for me? Where do you want to go. I will now place a reservation" Jeongwon was about to take his phone out of coat pocket when Gyeoul tell him a better idea for that day.
"Let's just spend quality time at my apartment. I'll wait for you there. I think we will be both tired that day anyway, so I think it is better if we can just relax in my apartment."
Jeongwon however was rather shocked on her sudden invitation on her place. It almost like she already planned the things they are going to do that day.
Well, Jeongwon was right, Gyeoul already had some idea on how she wants to celebrate that day, their first 100 days in a relationship.
"Joa! Let's start our weekend on Friday then!"
"Are you going to stay for the night on Friday? I might need to prepare the room"
"Mwooooo???!!"
"Shhhhh.... Ahahahaa I'm just kidding, but if you want, you can stay. I have a spare room where my brother usually stays, I can prepare that room for you"
"You, jinjaaa" Jeongwon sighed and can't believe that she actually pulled out that kind of joke. He's still a man despite being so religious, he's still man that can have dangerous desires. But Gyeoul didn't realized it and just continued to eat her sandwich
"Gyeoul-saem, mwohae?" Gyeoul startled by the new comer in the room, Her bestfriend and fellow army.
"OH nothing" Gyeoul answered but minha didn't buy it.
"Mwohae? Tell me." minha insists.
"Aniya, it's nothing"
"But......" Gyeoul decided to continue.
"Oh what's that? What's the problem?"
"Actually, it's our 100th day celebration tomorrow and I have some idea on what to do to celebrate it. Care to listen to my plan and give some thoughts?"
"Chakkaman, before anything else, does Ahn Gyusonim knows that it's your 100 days tomorrow?"
"Hmm i don't think so. Waeyo?"
"Well your plans will never work out if you are the only one who remembers it"
"Ahh you don't have to worry about that, we already planned to spend our time tomorrow after work. So I am thinking that I can surprise him that day"
"OK, araseo, so what's the plan?"
"So I am thinking for just a dinner date at my place, I can just cook for us a meal and maybe a movie night or just a book night. I will buy a cake, a wine and some snacks. I'm thinking of a more relax time to spend together since I know for sure we are already tired that day."
" Woaahhh, that's quite cliche, but romantic. I agree! But Jang Gyeoul saem, do you even cook? "
" Aniyo, it's my first time to cook for a proper meal but I already watched a lot of cooking tutorial during my free time, so I'm pretty confident I can pull it off."
"Do you have a stock of ramyeon in your house?"
"Yes, I have a lot of those, that's the only food I can make with this kind of work, and why you asked?"
"Make sure you have it, ok? just in case your meal turned out to be a poison. At least you can have ramyeon and a cake on your dinner. Also make sure you have beer in your fridge, wine does not go well with ramyeon."
"Aissssshhhhh!!" Gyeoul cant believe that her friend does not trust her capabilities. She feel the urge of her cooking to be a success so he can show it to Minha. She's now more determined.
"Yah yah yah, I have to go I just drop by here to say hi to my favorite GS resident"
"Musun! I am the only resident in GS!"
"I know! Bye!"
Friday 3pm
"And that's our last patient, right, Gyeoul-ah?"
"Yes, Gyusonim! Mrs. Park is our last patient on our afternoon rounds" Gyeoul answered while checking all the charts of the patients they visited that afternoon.
"Then......" Ikjun is looking at her as if he's waiting for something for her to say.
"Then...... What gyusonim?"
"Aigoooo yah! You asked me last week that you want to take am early out today, remember? I'm waiting for you to say bye to me coz you should be leaving now since we are already done this afternoon. Aisssshhhh!"
"Yes Gyusonim I didn't forget that, Im planning to go after I update the charts on my computer, it wouldn't take that long." Gyeoul's mind maybe full of the idea of their celebration tonight but she knows how to prioritize things. Work first, then enjoy tonight.
"But Gyusonim, why are you more excited than me? I'm the one who's going to home early and I'm leaving you with all the work here" Gyeoul continued
"Of course! I'm excited! Who would've thought that our great Jang Gyeoul songsaengnim, the only resident and our precious daughter will asked me to have an early out for some personal time. Of course I cannot wait to have this historical day for the GS!"
" Tsk! You are exagerating Gyusonim! It's just a few hours adjustment. I am not even asking for the whole month, what if I asked for that? "
" Oh that! Nope! No dad will ever allow their only precious daughter to be away that long. You know that GS will collapse without you. You are our pillar" Ikjun winked but he suddenly felt the fear if that ever happen.
"I know you will say that! I'll be off then, Gyusonim! Thank you for approving my request though, Anyeong!"
Gyeoul retreats and walks faster, she can't wait to spend their 100th day together.
4pm...
Jeongwon is looking at the computer in the ER desk as he tries to wrap up with 7 year old TA patient. Luckily, the child only suffers minor bruises and shallow laceration on forehead and no serious injuries was seen on CT.
"Bae Joonhee songsaeng, you can discharge the patient after you cover the wound."
"Nae Gyusonim"
"EO, thank you Dr Bae, call me if there's anything"
"Got it Gyusonim"
"Kundae, gyusonim, are you free tonight? It is my last day here in Yulje and the ER team arranged a send off party for me. So I am wondering if you can also come?"
Jeongwon is about to leave when Dr. Bae asked. Well, technically he isn't free, he already have plans with his girlfriend but Jeongwon, being the Buddha of the hospital he find it hard to refuse the invitation.
He is silent for a few minutes trying to weigh in his decision.
"Ok, I can come, just text me the address I will join you once I'm off here"
In the end he's still a Buddha. But on his defense he can still spend the rest of the weekend with Gyeoul like what he originally planned.
It should be fine, Gyeoul will understand, thats what he thinks, but only if he knew what today means for Gyeoul, or for them.
"Kamsahamnida Gyusonim, see you later then!"
"EO, see you later!"
6pm
Gyeoul is busy cutting all the ingredients she bought before going home. She have a long list of food she wanted to make but stick to a more traditional one, Kimchi jiggae and a bunch of side dishes. She bought a cake and numbered candles (1-0-0) that they can blow for the celebration. She also bought some dessert and snack that will go well well with the wine she got today. Gyeoul make sure that she really have some emergency ramyeon in her pantry just because Minha is right, even though she's confident about her cooking she needs a back up plan.
7pm
"And I'm done!" Gyeoul picks up the spoon to have a final taste test on her Kimchi jiggae to make sure it is really something edible.
"Hmmm it's not that bad, well not as good as my mom's but still we can eat this tonight! HAH! I need to show this to Minha"
After she plated all the banchan and put the jiggae in the table Gyeoul walks to the couch to get her phone and took a picture of the food she made and sent it to minha.
To Chu Minha Songsaengnim OB dept:
"Look at this Chu Minha songsaengnim, looks like we will not need the ramyeon tonight!" - - - - sent
Then she remembers that she didn't text Jeongwon since this afternoon. She was so happy on the food she made that she forgot to check on Ahn Jeongwon.
"Hmm is there any emergency at the hospital? I think by this time he's about to go home." she asked herself.
The last message sent by Jeongwon was 3pm when Gyeoul texted to tell him that she's going home and Jeongwon replied with "Arasong, I cant wait to see you tonight, just let me know if you need anything"
To: My Gyusonim ❤️
"Gyusonim, are you leaving the hospital now? You already know my password right? You don't have to knock just punch in the password and go in. See you!"
7:30pm
Jeongwon just finished his appendectomy procedure on a 10 year old girl that was brought to the hospital that afternoon. The operation was urgent and needed the to be done right away.
He finally got to hold on his phone and saw 2 unread messages:
From: Dr Bae Joonhee
"Gyusonim, we are at the samgyupsal restaurant across the CU convenience store, the whole team are already here"
From: My Resident ♥️
"Gyusonim, are you leaving the hospital now? You already know my password right? You don't have to knock just punch in the password and go in. See you!"
"Omo!!" his hand went up to cover his mouth and bit his lower lip trying to sooth his guilty feelings.
Yes! He forgot to tell Gyeoul about the change of plan tonight. Looks like he just added another sin to a already long list of sins that he should pray for the holy week.
She replied first to the first text he read.
To: Dr Bae Joonhee
"Araseoyo, I will join shortly" - - sent
Then to Gyeoul's message.
To: My Resident ❤️
"Otteokaji? Mianhe Gyeoul-ah, jinja mianhe. I mean to text you earlier that I won't make to tonight but I totally forgot after I got a call for my last patient I needed to operate this afternoon. I already finished the operation buy it is Dr. Bae Joonhee's last day in Yulje and the staff is having a send-off party for her. They invited me and I can't really say no. It's OK right? We still have a lot of time to spend our whole weekend together right? I can't wait! ❤️ Rest for today love, I will see you tomorrow!" - - sent
He waited for a reply.

And it took a while before the next reply he's waiting come

"Hmmmm?" Just that? Is she mad?
