Those who have prepped for the Apocalypse, how did you react when it finally happened?

I won't go into too much detail, but I always thought I was prepared. I expected zombies or maybe nuclear wars, and if I was feeling extra paranoid, aliens. 

I think we can all agree what happened was much different, but at first I was almost relieved. I wasn't crazy! And my preparation finally will pay off, right?

Well, you probably know how this story ends. 

Seriously, who could have predicted every reflective surface becoming sentient and trying to take my place?? At one point I tried to drink some water and boom! It tried to drink me instead. At least all the people who used to say I was an idiot for having been worried hold their tongues now, I was luckier than most.

Well at the start I was super smug, my bunker protected me and my family just fine! 

At least, that's what I thought first before my wife pointed out that doesn’t the area feel a bit..smaller?

Welp, turns out that every hour the walls closed in by one inch LOL! It did not affect us much at first, but as you can imagine after a few weeks it got uh, crowded. 

I had to get several surgeries to reverse the effects of my bones and organs being reshaped, it's a miracle that I survived.

 never thought of myself as very claustrophobic before, but now I can’t be in a room for too long without freaking out, and my youngest lost the ability to walk. 

Overall I’m not sure if I regret all the preparation I did, I sometimes wonder if I haven't done what I did if I would have been condemned. To a worse fate.

I want to say that i reacted in fear, or felt vindicated, but in reality at the start i felt SUPER hungry! like, no matter how much i ate i never felt full. the only thing that sated my cravings for even a second was consuming my own flesh, and after a few days gave in and tried some other peoples… thank god america made everything that happened in the “Incident Times” not legally accountable!

            So you know when you walk into a pet store that caters to reptiles, they

            have a little area dedicated to beetles and mealworms and other bugs? 

            They sell this little green jar of jelly that you use to feed crickets and ants,

            and pretty much I...sometimes buy a jar or two and eat it like jello?

            I never craved it before the apocalypse so uh yeah, but besides that

            I consider myself pretty unaffected overall.

                  Okay so unless you were in the UK during the apocalypse, I get that you wouldn't have the most knowledge about this.

                  HOWEVER to anyone who was, or even near London at the time almost all have an...experience with The Archivist.

                  It was pretty much immune to the horrors, but unlike many of the monsters who were immune, it was able to leave and

                  travel to other domains without being bound to one.  I don’t know much, but some speculate it had some part in all of

                  this happening due to a few people who have encountered The Archivist saying so, but we have no solid proof.

                  Either way, It was terrifying, I mean everything was but The Archivist was extra bad. Apparently, it narrated the torture

                  you were going through in a really invasive way? I didn't know it was uh, able to “Turn people into ants” but I don't doubt it.

                  anyway, we have no idea where it went.

                  This is a shame since I know many people who would like to recreate the uh… “Simon Fairchild“ fiasco.

I finally went on a date with someone I really liked and accidentally said their trigger phrase.

Self-explanatory title, but here I go:

There was this super cute person that ill call Jess, so anyways I have been crushing on them for WEEKS now and I finally mustered up the courage to ask them out to lunch!! Great, right?

So we get to the place, it's a semi-popular burger place but they end up ordering a salad, I felt kinda stupid since I knew that they were vegetarian and I chose a BURGER place of all restaurants! But they insisted it was fine and that the salads there were actually super good, not just lettuce and sauce but a bunch of good ingredients. 

I don't know much about salads so I won't bore you with that,  but here's pretty much what happened. 

The waitress served our food and it looks great! They looked really happy too and I couldn't stop smiling and was overall very giddy that we were hanging out.

I was about to take a bite, and my stupid self who was trying to be quirky  or polite or whatever dumb thing I was thinking said the phase “Enjoy your meal!” 

And then, I shit you not, they start CRYING!

As you can imagine, I now feel like a dick, but mostly confused because one second we are all lovey-dovey and about to have some good food, and the next I'm awkwardly patting their shoulder and asking what's wrong.

Apparently, during the apocalypse, they were forced to eat a bunch of animals when they were STILL ALIVE! And every time they did it a speakerphone in customer service voice said “Enjoy Your meal!” 

And at this point, they are explaining this to me through still crying eyes and apologizing and getting tears and snot all over me as other people are giving me death-glares and dirty looks and I'm feeling like the worst and stupidest person in the world.

TL;DR: I went on a date with someone who was in one of those “Meat/food/flesh (whatever you want to call it) Horror” areas without knowing, and said something that made them cry.

Edit: For those of you asking, they did agree to a second date! I guess I didn't mess up as much as I thought

            It's fine if you think that but I suggest at least having it once. It's rare you get quality meat like

            this at such a cheap price, and most people estimate that they will quickly grow in value

            since most of the evidence from The Apocalypse is quickly disappearing.

                              I looked at your post history and you seem to reside in Australia, so I understand

                              this might seem pretty weird for you! The food regulations relating to The Incident are

                              pretty strict there. However, in the USA as long as the meat can be argued as non-human, then it's fine!

I’ve been trying to contact someone in order to thank them and maybe went a bit too far, AITA?

During the apocalypse, I was saved by two prophets who were immune to the horrors that be. They held no fear and spoke of the word returning to its former state (Which Did Happen, as you know.) 

It was incredible, they were incredible. If the world around us at the time inspired fear and horror, they sparked hope and brilliance. 

I will be sparse with the details, but I was in a small community of other survivors and other devout believers. It wasn't perfect but we all had each other, and more importantly, we had the prophets take care of us.

 I don't recall why, but at one point they had to leave us on our own for a while, and after that details are blurry.

Like others I remember smelling smoke, hearing screams, and then things reverted. We were not exposed to the Eye That Watched, hidden away from all the fear in a protected area, but we could all tell that the sky had blinked. 

Ever since then I've been desperately trying to contact them again, if I had any doubts before about the validity of their power (Which I did not)  then it's long gone.

They left to save the world, I know it. And then they were actually able to do it .

Of course, I need to thank them, right? They are our messahias, they have brought us peace and safety and quite literally saved us all. 

I managed to find them online, they are semi-famous along with a few people I don’t recognize. Apparently, even before all of this the prophets were experienced with the supernatural, having an audience almost as devoted as we were listening and watching to their media. Just more proof that this is why they were put on earth, to teach us, to warn us. 

To save us.

I have been reaching out since, dming them on social media and sending desperate emails. I even found an old Patreon they had set up and signed up for the highest tier. 

Both of them have blocked me on several apps by this point, but in the process, I was able to find a  few more people who also resided with me during the apocalypse and discovered many of them have been trying to communicate with them as well with no results.  

Well, by fate I saw one of them shopping completely randomly! I of course profusely thanked them and explained all I've done and begged to speak with them longer-

But she said that I had to leave them alone. 

I don’t understand? I explained my situation to a now ex-friend, and they stated that I might have been too diligent in my search for them. But All things considered, I believe I haven't been trying enough, I just need to say thank you, and to get some reassurance that all of that horror won't come back.

So Reddit, am I the asshole?

 I was compliant in the torture of several of my co-workers 

What it says on the tin.

During the….well, you know…

I said I didn't have a choice. That I never wanted to hurt anyone. 

And that's true! Or at least, that's what I tell myself.

But I saw them all burn burn burn burn and turn to ash and instead of trying to help, I reveled in it.

It hurt, at first. I still have scars. We all do.

But after a while, the pain started to calm and I remember looking around to see if anyone else felt the same way and no one did. They were all screaming as usual. 

I played along, not wanting them to notice. It wasn't hard, the flames still engulfed me. But it was welcome, it was an embrace. 

A realization came, if I looked at someone for a bit too long, it seemed like they screamed even louder

And my pain, which was already dulled, turned to ecstasy. 

I experimented.

The more I focused on someone else, the less it hurt. The better I felt.

Maybe I was greedy, but I would have done anything in order to ease the pain. I wasn't thinking right, my head was too consumed by the fire to think properly. 

I don't think they know. It's been a while now, I'm sure they would have said something.

Sometimes I light stuff on fire, just to get a kick out of it. Nothing big, just sticks or old newspapers and such.

Most of them can't even look at a stovetop without crying.

Occasionally I miss...all of what happened. Not often. But enough for it to scare me.  

I think i'm a monster now, or maybe i've always been one. It felt good to burn.

My girlfriend (23F) hunted me(24M) for sport during the y’know, and It awakened something in her.

Uhhhh so pretty much she chased me for years (or what felt like years at least, we all know that time was never real!) and could not stop, and obviously, it was terrifying for me.

We agreed to put it all behind us, no use dwelling on the pass. I have no scars and overall it could have been worse.

We as a couple like to stay fit, and the other day we were jogging.

I maybe was a foot or two ahead of her and she picked up the pace.

Suddenly uh, I felt an overwhelming panic? And started sprinting?

So here we are, she was chasing me across the neighborhood and eventually I collapsed and she tackled me.

It took a moment before she snapped back to reality. And when she did she started apologizing and looked like she was about to cry

I tried comforting her, it wasn't that bad really? The adrenaline rush was much like a runner's high anyway, and it made me break a pretty good sweat.

We didn't bring it up again for a bit, but after a few days she asked if we could try it again but with a safeword or something in case, I needed her to stop.

I'm kinda conflicted, I don’t mind too much, but I find it a bit odd. I'll do it if it makes her happy but I am slightly concerned that the apocalypse opened up this part of her.

TLDR; Girlfriend chased me during the end-times and discovered it makes her really excited outside that context.

I ratted out my unionizing coworkers to my boss. 

Look, I know it sounds bad. But you have to understand that I'm in a really tight place money-wise and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. He offered a raise to anyone who came forward and told him.

They have been trying to unionize for ages, invited me to a few meetups, but so far no real progress has been made.

My boss has been really paranoid recently.  

If I didn't tell him who was responsible for the whispers of a strike, he would have figured it out somehow anyway. Or someone else who is probably paid more than me would have told him.

I had to do it.

They were all fired. No 3-week notice or anything.

I was friends with them, I think. One in particular. I saw him at another job, some real shitty place. He refused to look me in the eye. It's hard to tell, with all the burn scars on his face (apocalypse-related), but I know that he looked betrayed.

But- it's not my fault. They have to get that, right?

New top surgery just dropped 

Im just using this post as an excuse to talk about one of the only positive things that have come out of the apocalypse, which is that I was stuck in a flesh domain (not fun! If my body dysmorphia and dysphoria was bad before- it was 2000% worse while trapped there!) however- when things were turned back relatively normal I realized that? They kept my tits?? Im flat now, and while I have maintained a few scars from the whole shebang they don't look like top-surgery scars! If I had to describe them they are more akin to grill marks. 

Like- obviously it was traumatizing and awful and violating but now that's over beside some lingering nightmares and I saved about 7000$ in medical bills thanks to the place I was trapped in. 

Does anyone else have similar experiences? Im so conflicted about the entire situation

Im debating my friend on why slaughter and hunt get separate categories but the fear of bugs and spiders are in separate ones. Spiders are literally bugs. If someone fears being chased they probs are also fearing getting hurt or slaughtered. If they only fear being stalked- isnt that just… beholding??? It's so divisive for no reason.

Honestly, I prefer the fear-soup or color theory type of thinking. however, I think the smirke system has a lot of value, especially considering most of the biggest players followed it.

              ^^this! I think it's pretty common knowledge that the entities evolved around our perception of them, while they are pretty distinct I feel like they became slightly more divided from each other the more we started to think of them as separate being instead of a whole.

                         Literally! Like, the whole fear-fest only happened once all the entities were United as a whole again, even if the Eye fuckers got most of the power, it makes sense though, like     observing all the fear going on was obviously best for the beholding even if I’m still convinced the spiders set it up
