Work Text:

As Magnus stepped out onto to balcony, two glasses of wine in his hand, and folded himself into the strong embrace of his boyfriend of four years, he couldn’t think of anything better to do with his Sunday evening. This truly was bliss.

Handing Alec his glass he leaned back and closed his eyes, humming in approval as Alec’s long arms tightened slightly around him. After Alec took the first sip of their favorite red, he squeezed the hand at Magnus’ hip and declared into the quiet summer evening, “We should really do this more often.”

Magnus turned in the embrace to smile at him and started, “We sure should, pu…”. At the quickly raised eyebrow from his bodyguard boyfriend, his life started flashing in front of his eyes and he frantically scrambled to find another way than the passionately despised ‘p’ to finish the endearment. “…pumpkin.” Is what came out rather lamely.

The snort that escaped Alec was rather inelegant, but to Magnus is was the most adorable sound he could fathom. That’s what he loved so much about Alec. He was a bad-ass bodyguard who could disarm bad guys in a number of imaginative ways, but at home, he let all the bravado slip and showed childlike wonder at the smallest gestures and could throw the most irresistible puppy dog eyes Magnus has ever seen.

Alec’s second eyebrow met the first one in the throws of his hairline and he asked, “What the hell was that?” with clear amusement.

“I panicked?”, Magnus offered lamely.

“You were about to call me pup again, weren’t you? What is it with you and that horrendous nickname?”, Alec inquired around a snicker he barely even tried to hold in.

Magnus took offense to that and went on the defensive with an emphatic “It’s not my fault that you’re insanely adorable!”

Alec threw him a smirk and retorted, “You do remember that I knock people on their asses for a living, right? I am NOT adorable.”

“Could have fooled me,” Magnus mumbled even as he wracked his brain for ideas on how to get out of this perpetual argument. Just as he was about to explain why ‘pup’ wasn’t as despicable a pet name as Alec made it out to be, Alec took his glass out of his hand and put it beside his own on the side table before flipping them on the sofa and pinning Magnus’ hands easily above his head.

“Easy there tiger!” Magnus laughed a little breathlessly.

Alec returned the easy laugh and declared, “Now THAT is a pet name I could get behind.”

Magnus threw his head back in delight and reminded his ridiculously adorable boyfriend, “Yeah, only that it really doesn’t work in any other context than this one. In any other situation, it’s just tacky.”

Alec contemplated that for a second before bending down and whispering while brushing his lips against Magnus’, “Let’s just stick with darling then, huh?”

“Always stick to the classics.”, Magnus agreed.
