It was over. Finally over. The Flag Smashers were stopped alongside the Power Broker. Zemo had been turned over to Wakanda to deal with him as they pleased. Sharon had been allowed to return to the States. Sam was finally deciding to take up the shield and become Captain America.
Bucky and Sam are sitting on the dock near his house in Lousiana. They sit in silence as they drink their beers. Bucky thought back to the kiss they had in Madripoor. They had not talked about it yet.
Sam lets out a deep sigh, “I guess it’s time to go on our long separate vacations.”
Bucky does not look at him. He can’t. He looks down at the calm water, “Yeah. I guess so.”
Sam gets up and starts walking away. Bucky bits his lip but he decides just to blurt it out, “I like you.”
Sam stops in his tracks, “I kinda already knew that Bucky. You’re not that great at concealing your feelings from me.”
“Then why did you push me away in Madripoor?” Bucky asks as he gets up and walks up to Sam.
Sam turns around to look Bucky in the eyes, “Things were complicated then.”
“And things are still complicated now?”
“At this moment, no but they will be. Things always get complicated.”
“Yeah and so what?”
Sam sighs in frustration, “Bucky, we both have problems of our own. A lot of problems. This would just complicate things more.”
Bucky chuckles, “Don’t make excuses and just say you don’t feel the same.” He obviously did not feel the same. What an idiot you are, Bucky thought. To think he could finally have Sam.
“What?” Sam looks at him confused, “I’m not making excuses. Of course, I like you back. More than you can think.”
Sam actually liked him back. Bucky thought all his feelings were just one sided. “Then what’s the problem? Why can’t we just be together and face our problems together?” Bucky realizes he was yelling at Sam now. He takes a deep breath and begins to walk away.
Bucky was right. Sam was making excuses. He just didn’t want the chance of messing Bucky up. He cared too much for him to do that.
Sam runs after him and places a hand on Bucky’s shoulder turning him around to face him, “You’re right. I am making excuses,” Sam takes a moment before looking at Bucky’s blue eyes which just showed the pain that Sam was causing him, “I just keep thinking about everything that could go wrong.”
Bucky places his right hand on Sam’s cheek making sure he can’t look away. “I don’t care about the maybes. I don’t care about all the problems we’ll have to face. I just want you.”
“Buck, I-”
“Please. Don’t think about all the problems in the world. Just think about what you want.” Bucky slowly gets closer to Sam feeling his breath on his lips.
Sam doesn’t say anything for a bit. Just lost in thought. Bucky was right once again. He did have to stop thinking about all the problems in the world that he would have to face as Captain America. He just needed to think about what he wanted. And what he wanted more than anything was Bucky. He wanted him every day.
“I want you. More than anything else.” Sam whispers before closing the small gap between them and pressing his lips against Bucky’s. Sam wraps his arms around Bucky’s waist pulling him as close as possible. He just wanted to be close to him and never let him go. Sam bites down on Bucky’s bottom lip causing him to let out a small moan. Bucky shoved his tongue into Sam’s mouth. Sam could not stop himself from moaning into Bucky’s mouth.
They only parted when they finally needed to breathe. Sam could not help himself from looking down at Bucky’s bright red lips knowing that he was the cause of that.
Bucky smiled finally looking into Sam’s soft brown eyes, “Guess we’re not taking long separate vacations.”
Sam chuckled, “No, we’re not.”
Bucky gave him a quick peck before they walked back to the house. They would be alright. There were many problems out there in the world to fix. But they would fix them together.
