Chapter Text
Leaning back against his high quality gaming chair, a One Direction towel draped over the backrest, Kaoru sighed as he began his hourly scroll through Tumblr. The screen displayed various images and fanart of his beloved boy band, as expected of anyways. Not much ever changes in his account. The vast arrays of One Direction posts made Kaoru as content as he could ever be.
Except, for one thing.
The blond nearly did a double take, witnessing a certain message that he couldn’t believe would ever be said to him.
He hesitated, hand shaking as he hovered his mouse over the DM. It was by someone new, and not to mention, someone with an icon of a band member from My Chemical Romance. No fan of the band has ever encountered Kaoru, and frankly, the blond feared for his life over it. Everyone knows 1D was the best boy band that could ever exist. Who would ignore that over some dumb emo band? Only uncultured people would turn a blind eye from the benevolent group, and instead walk the path of dark, nasty, emo culture.
Holding his breath, he clicked on the DM, beginning to read the somewhat lengthy message with caution.
“hey, do u unironically like 1D? i saw u on my timeline and usually it’s filled with mcr, but u have posts of 1D, which i dont like. :( if u ironically like them, i think thats okay but i want u to stop making fake lovemails for them because it looks like u like them !! If u unironically like them, i want u to know dat u suck and 1D is the WORST. mcr is so much cooler and better and they hav such meaningful music unlike ur trashy british men. Thank u :)”
Kaoru couldn’t believe it. He could only stare at the message in pure rage and disgust as such an uncultured person decided to diss 1D right in front of him. Trashy? Those British men comforted him at his lowest, his trauma repressed and almost forgotten upon slipping his headphones (with Harry Styles’ face, of course) onto his ears, blasting What Makes You Beautiful on max. The memories of his bastard father bullying him of his obsession vanished, and Kaoru would repeat this process multiple times, truly feeling at ease as long as this band from the heavens was with him. He would clutch his new iPhone 5, with a clear case containing his first ever 1D concert ticket, close to him with a soft smile, remembering the day when he stood right in front of the stage, being able to touch Liam Payne’s hand from the crowd.
To think someone so repulsive and disrespectful would ever speak such harsh words, it made his blood boil and filled him with rage.
Out of spite, he instantly clicked on the MCR fan’s blog, scrolling through each and every post he made. Memes going against 1D filled the screen, all made by that stupid person, short essays written about how “horrible” 1D’s music was cluttered the page, and overall, such a blog left him with a bad taste in his mouth. He reminded himself to go get some water poured into his limited edition, colour changing 1D mug after this.
Throughout the period of stalking, which promptly lasted for about an hour, Kaoru retained new information regarding the MCR stan. He goes by the name “Rei Sakuma”, supposedly the same age as him, and even lives just a couple of blocks away. The blond pondered for a minute or so, constructing a way to use such info to fight back against Rei. A fight seemed to appeal to Kaoru, however, he knew 1D would never tolerate such a heinous act. After all, his loyalty towards those five dazzling men could never allow him to go against their morals; he wouldn’t want to betray them, especially after being able to touch Liam Payne’s hand from the crowd.
Upon opening up the DM with Rei once again, rereading his blood curdling message over and over, the idea of a singing battle seemed to appeal to the blond quite well. His exceptional singing voice has always been suited for impressing the British boy band, in any case of getting a VIP pass backstage to meet the boys in person right in front of his very own amber eyes. He would blow them away with his singing, making them believe that he made their songs so much better, and maybe, just maybe, he would be hired to work for them. It was a silly dream he knew would not come true, but fantasizing about the scenario every night before bed was just as perfect.
And so, with his ultimate plan set in motion, Kaoru’s fingers began working their way across the keyboard, replying to Rei’s message with a sense of determination and diligence. He has to make sure to sprinkle a little hate towards the emo boy band, amplifying 1D’s superiority.
“ur gross u know~ no 1 likes mcr. No 1! ur just jealous that 1D was so much more successful 🙄🙄 u live close to me, so are u up for a fight? bc we should have a singing battle and see once and 4 all who the BEST group is! my voice was MADE for 1D!”
There, that should do it. Upon pressing the enter button to send the message, Kaoru’s muscles relaxed as he exhaled in relief, proud of his accomplishment to diss an MCR stan. Emo boys have no place in society, let alone the music industry.
However, his relaxation came to a halt, as he noticed a new message popping up. It seems as if Rei replied to his message, and the blond felt both excitement and worry over the response.
He checked over at the reply, noticing a link attached to the paragraph. It seemed to be an image, but Kaoru planned on dealing with that later.
“sounds like a deal ! btw, 1D still sucks. if always sucks. they r just ugly british boys who think theyr hot stuff, but they r not !!!!! and my singing voice is so good. u will never be on par with mcr as the greatest singer.”
Such a mouthful, who did he think he was talking to? A boy so cocky and egoistical made Kaoru’s teeth grit at the text, but he couldn’t reply just yet. His mouse quickly clicked on the file link, which appeared to be an image.
What was displayed right in front of him was a picture of a guy, blood red eyes and decently long black hair, skin as pale as snow. The black top with an MCR print barely peeked out, and the Snapchat dog filter that had been the rage of social media recently on his face contrasted the overall, obvious dark look on the boy. The caption read “Meet u at the park tomorrow ;)” , which made Kaoru let out a sound of disgust. First of all, what an insult to the dog filter! Someone as low as an MCR stan doesn’t deserve such a thing. Second, what’s with that wink? He must think he’s so cool, when in reality he’ll never have any friends.
He had to admit, Kaoru thought he was a bit cute. Just a little.
But that didn’t matter, why should it matter? It was an MCR stan he’s talking about, they never deserve rights.
He closed the image file, sending back a quick confirmation message, too tired to insult the emo band any further. He needed to save his energy for their singing battle, after all.
After a couple of minutes of saying their farewells, Kaoru logged off of his computer, moving away to slump back onto his bed, protected with 1D symbol bed sheets as well as a picture of all the boys on his duvet.
He stared at the Niall Horan plushie sitting peacefully on the left side of his bed, barely reaching towards it when he dozed off naturally and quietly into a long night’s sleep.
Tomorrow will be a special day, that’s for sure.
