Work Text:

Fundy lurched forward, hands reaching where he was stabbed, the pain still burning through his chest. He panted as he took his bearings, frantically looking at where he was, trying to breath. His breath catched up to him as it registered that he respawned in his room, the familiar sight calmed him. Until he remembered. This is Eret’s house.

The fox jumped out of his bed, practically ripping the hinges of his door, and started bolting to the door. The whole place smelled of diluted hyacinth and molded bread, a smell so familiar yet sad. He almost searched for the source if he didn’t know whose it was, but his feet came to a stop, the sound of sobbing finding his ears.

Fundy went down on all fours, sneaking towards the noise, stopping in front of Eret’s room. The faint smell of blood mixed into the hyacinth and bread, the scent so full of grief and remorse, he couldn’t help but tear up. He quietly opened the door, pearing in to see Eret, who was sobbing on the floor. They looked like a mess, clutching his arm as it bled over his clothes.

There was a little machine in their hand, playing a soft lullaby as a little mermaid twirled, so familiar to him but he couldn’t put his finger on it. Eret was wrapped in a shawl, again familiar, wrapping it tightly around themselves. They looked up for a split second, freezing as they saw him, more tears falling down their face. “Fu..Fundy,” they asked so softly, so scared and hesitant.

Fundy pushed the door away from his face, revealing himself to them. They shakily stood up and walked over to him, placing their hands on his face so gently, as if he would shatter if they didn’t. “I- I told them- I told them to not kill you! I told them- to st-stay away and l-let you run. I told them to, you’ve got to b-believe me funds,” They stammered as they held him against their chest, tears dripping onto his hair.

“I’m so sorry, I told them to let you live, I never felt so much pain then when i saw you there.. Who did it?” Fundy buried his head into their shoulder, “George,” he mumbled. Eret pressed a soft kiss on his head, a soft sob escaping them, “I’m sorry fundy.. I truly am. But.. you don’t have to forgive,” they whispered as they ran their hand through his hair, lulling him to sleep as they mumbled in a frenzy. Something about a castle, about dressing him up in riches, about spoiling him rotten, about making him a prince but he didn’t catch anything else as sleep swallowed him whole.

He gasped as he woke up, looking around to see his dad, tommy and tubbo, all unconscious. Fundy blinked, looking to the side to see the mermaid, the lullaby slowly finishing up...
