- Chapter One-

The sun began to rise, the soft yellow/orange color peering through the windows of his room, illuminating a very tidy room, the only exception being the bedsheets that laid on the undone bed. Sitting on the edge of his bed he sighed, another night with no sleep, meaning another day to get through. An alarm clock next to his bed began to go off, he promptly shut it off, after all he was awake anyways.

Levi rubbed his face, a low groan escaping him before he stood up; he made his bed, fixing it nicely at a surprisingly quick speed before reaching for a clean white t-shirt that laid at the foot of his bed. He rolled his shoulders, then promptly pulled the shirt over his head; covering his well toned upper body. He opened his room door, taking one last glance through his window at the sunrise before going to his apartment's small kitchen. He started to heat up some water, then going through a couple cabinets until he found the teabags, apparently it was too difficult for his roommate to leave it in one place.

A loud yawn came from the other bedroom in the apartment before the door swung open, speak of the devil...

"Levi, why the hell are you awake? It's 6am."

Never a morning person.

"Couldn't sleep, besides, my new job needs me to be there early." Levi spoke in response, his tiredness being barely evident through his monotone voice.

"Well if you're making tea you'd better have made some for me too." Suddenly his roommate was sitting at the small kitchen island, leaning on the counter, if it wasn't Levi, anyone else would've been jumped by the sudden approach. Hange Zoe, they were the only one Levi knew when he moved here, it made sense to be roomies since they had spent so much time together during the war, both being captains over very elite groups. Levi shrugged, he had made enough for both of them, though it was a bit annoying since he was just going to have two cups of tea. He poured two glasses, putting mint teabags into the cups to begin steeping.

Hange smiled, looking forward to some fresh tea, then something coming to mind, "By the way," they started, "How has your new job been?"

Levi gave a quiet sigh, "It's not what I prefer, but the pay is good and it is at least something I can tolerate." He stared down at his cup for a few seconds, "Quite a coincidence I would end up in a janitorial job."

Removing the teabag, Hange took a sip before responding, "Well, if you can tolerate it, then stick with it. Just keep looking for a different job and maybe you'll find something you actually like." They smiled, then chugging back the rest of the tea, "I don't have work until 10, so I'm going back to bed." They stood up and stretched their arms a bit, before giving a short wave as they shuffled back to their room, "Thanks for the tea." One last yawn escaping them before their bedroom door gently closed.

Levi removed the teabag from his cup, promptly putting it into the trash before he took a sip of his tea. He thought for a bit, the silence starting to feel heavy on him. He washed the cups after he finished and set them to dry prior to going to get dressed for work.

He showered, combing his hair and brushing his teeth before pulling on a grey bodysuit as required. He collected his things, wallet, housekeys, a bit of cash, and a small pocket knife, then proceeding to tuck his things into a well-worn backpack before pulling an arm through a strap to rest it on his left shoulder. He left his apartment, walking down a flight of stairs to reach the main entrance which led to the street. It was a busy street, he lived just barely inside the downtown area, in a nice loft apartment, so it was difficult to avoid traffic, but he didn't have a car anyways, so it was never really a problem.

He unlocked his bicycle, taking off down the sidewalk as he dodged any kind of obstacle that got in his way. After about twenty minutes, he made it to his destination, not even slightly winded or worn out from the cycling. He parked his bicycle and locked it to some railing before going up a few steps to reach the back entrance of the University. Being part of the cleaning crew meant early starts and late hours, but it also meant good pay since most people wouldn't want a cleaning job.

Levi went about his usual tasks, picking up any abandoned garbage and making sure the floors were clean and polished before the students came in, it was also his job to maintain this high level of clean while the students were here. By now a few teachers and professors began to trickle in to prepare for the day's classes. Which was annoying because they were terrible at having respect for the freshly cleaned halls and classrooms.

One of these teachers came in with loose dirt on the bottom of his shoes, Levi was not pleased by this. He took a deep breath and grabbed a mop, beginning some of the most aggressive cleaning anyone's ever seen. As he pushed the mop down the marble floor he mistakenly ran head first into someone.

With papers flying everywhere, the clank of the mop, and falling backwards, everything for one second felt like it was completely wrong and the world was going to implode. Levi grunted, he landed pretty hard, but it was nothing like broken bones or anything; he pulled himself up, sitting and speaking, "Sorry about that." He looked up, seeing the person he had run into already picking up papers.

"It's no problem, I should have paid more attention to where I was going." The man spoke clearly, seeming unfazed by it all until he stopped picking up his papers, recognizing the voice, he looked over at the man who had the mop, his bright blue eyes locking with the bluesteel ones.

"Levi?" He asked.

Levi stared for a bit at the man, memories flooding back before speaking.

"Erwin."
