Chapter Text
The two were sitting at one of the two-seater tables in the cafeteria, so it was just them. It was odd because they usually sat with their friends; but Izuku just thought that it was a normal thing couples did. Plus, they’ve been dating for almost a year now; he really should have been used to doing private things with Shoto—but not too private. Unfortunately, this was going to be the last private thing they were going to do in a while.
“Izuku,” Shoto started.
“Hm?” Izuku looked at him from his bowl of Katsudon. He thought that it was a little awkward that he was the only one with food at the table, but he concluded that his boyfriend just didn’t want to eat right now.
“I have something really important to tell you,” he said in a hushed tone.
The smaller boy noticed how he was avoiding his gaze, his face stern. It worried him a little. “Okay.”
He stared intently at the man and tried to decipher what he wanted to say. With every little second that passed, his anxiety grew. And then he opened his mouth:
“I want us to break up .”
His eyes widened and he dropped his spoon. The words hurt him like daggers. It was like he had been impaled in the chest. But why? Why so suddenly? He had been faithful. He was doing everything he knew Shoto wanted. Was he just not enough? Did he have to do better? He wanted to know.
“W-why?” he asked, tearing up. “Did I do something wrong?”
Upon seeing the greenette’s reaction, Shoto turned away. The taller boy looked disappointed, but why was he being so stoic about it? It was like he didn’t even love him anymore, like he didn’t even care. But maybe it was just because he really just didn’t.
“You cheated on me,” Shoto finally said, still turned away. “And with Bakugou.”
What?
Izuku was confused. He didn’t do anything like that at all.
“But I didn’t.”
“Yes, you did .”
But he didn’t . He couldn’t recall doing anything with Kacchan at all. Did Shoto believe that because he was his ex? How could he believe that? He knew him well enough that he would never go running back to him.
“Shoto, I swear!” he cried, his voice softening. “How could you even say that? Did anyone tell you?”
“I saw it happen,” the bi-colored male said sternly. “With my own two eyes.”
Izuku was taken aback. “W-what?”
Shoto stared at him. He held so much anger in his eyes,it scared the smaller boy so much. He didn’t want to lose him like this. He didn’t even know how it happened, where it happened, or why it happened. All he knew was that he went out yesterday with Katsuki to fight off some villains and went straight back to the dorms. Was it because of.. oh no …
“I’m not stupid, Midoriya,” Todoroki continued, his voice firm. “I know what I saw.”
“But that wasn’t me ,” Izuku cried, his voice cracking. “It was Kacchan. He… He used me.”
The taller boy sighed. “Stop denying it, Izuku.”
“I’m not!” the green-haired boy almost yelled. “Sorry. But I’m telling you the truth. He went at me.”
Shoto stared at him. He inspected his eyes, making sure he wasn’t lying. But there was so much pleading in them. It was like he was forcing him to believe this.
He shook his head, his lips in a tight line. “I’m sorry. But I’ll be leaving now.”
Izuku watched him stand, terrified. No , he thought . I can’t let him leave. Not right now.
When his back was turned towards him, Izuku jumped off of his seat and hugged him from behind. “Please,” he pleaded. “Don’t leave me, Todoroki-kun.”
Shoto stood there, his hand on Izuku’s trembling ones. He could feel his back get wet—from the smaller boy’s tears, he supposed. But he didn’t want to look at him. He didn’t want to give him that power at all.
“Midoriya,” he said in monotone. “Please let go.”
Izuku wanted to keep holding on to him. He didn’t want to lose him. He was the last person he wanted gone right now. He depended on him. He needed him. But he had to respect his decision. So he did as told, and he let go.
He watched his back as he walked farther and farther away from him; until finally, he disappeared into the crowd. And he was gone. He wasn’t coming back to him. He wasn’t gonna hug him. And now, Izuku was all alone. And nobody cared.
. . .
