“Katsuki,” his mother breathed as she crouched down, taking Katsuki’s hand in her own. Her eyes were locked on his, a look fixed in them that was meant for Katsuki to decipher.
Despite how slow he was, he understood the look in her eyes.

When Hawks picks up a call from his intern in the middle of the night, 'the villain Dabi' is extremely low on the list of things he expects to hear on the other line. Not even on that list is 'the villain Dabi, frantic because Hawks' intern just got shot in a back alley in Shizuoka city.'
As such, Hawks understandably has many questions when he picks up a call from his intern in the middle of the night and hears the villain Dabi on the other line, frantic because Hawks' intern just got shot in a back alley in Shizuoka city. Questions such as: what the fuck was Dabi thinking, taking his intern out so late at night? But also: what the fuck is Dabi doing hanging out with his intern at all? And: what the hell is Shouto doing hanging around the man who tried to murder his dad on national television?
And, most importantly: why does Dabi seem to care so much about Endeavour's son?

"Oh?" Dabi taunts in that flashfire voice of his; and Hawks is reminded, yet again, how easily he burns. "Tell me, what poor little bastard's gonna be riding your ugly-ass coattails for the next few months?"
Hawks frowns, realizing he's just set up a question he actually has to answer. Dabi will find out anyway, won't he? If there's one thing Hawks has learned, it's that Dabi has his ways. Hawks can never hide anything from him, no matter how hard he tries, a fact that will someday spell his undoing –– but there's no way around it now.
Willing his fight-or-flight instinct into silence, Hawks reminds his sharpened feathers he's not here for either. It'll be fine. The worst part of removing a bandaid is the dread before you rip it off. Right?
So Hawks braces himself, and answers:
"Todoroki Shouto."

Hawks' doomed flight towards the sun is thrown off-course when he receives a surprise request from Endeavor's son, asking to be his work-study student. He is put to the ultimate test... a test he is not backing down from because if there was one thing Hoshina was going to do, it was to get back his idiot. Everyone else be damned.
“I'll get out of here” the laugh that met Kafka's ears was soft, and at this point, after so many days and nights. Kafka wanted to laugh at his absurd optimism as well... saying that had become a ritual for him, even though he was beginning to lose faith in the words he spoke.
“you truly are adorable Kaiju no8” the voice chilled him to the bone “if those words give you comfort, go ahead and say them, I encourage you to say them every morning, every afternoon and every night, say them when you breath in and out, but I do advice you against holding your breath”
