Work Text:

Playing with the whole smp once again was a cool and refreshing experience. Dream almost forgot how it feels to cheerfully spend time with all of his friends. The server has changed a lot over the past year, a lot of people got involved in the lore, but most of all, it became a safe space to hang out. Dream was happy how all of it turned out and every time he got to play on the smp, he immediately had all his memories flooding his mind. It was nice. Nostalgic. He never thought that this simple block game would change his life.

But there he was, sitting in his room in front of his computer, playing and streaming, and roaring with laughter while having the time of his life. He never thought minecraft could have that much of an impact on him. It gave him happiness. He was thankful for the fanbase he had the possibility to foster and the people who supported him through the whole process of becoming a content creator.

But most importantly, he was thankful for that one person he met during his minecraft journey. That one person he cared about the most.

“George!” Dream wheezed, seeing how his best friend got killed by Quackity for the third time in a row. “Are you kidding me? What was that?” he asked playfully.

“I don’t know, Dream” he giggled but then he added a little bit too serious “I’m sorry.”

Dream was still laughing, but something in George’s voice got him concerned. He was being weird the whole time and even though Dream tried his best to make him smile, there was something off about George that night.

“No, no, George, don’t be sorry,” Dream assured him. “I wasn’t being serious. It’s fine, I’ll get you a netherite set, don’t worry.”

George only hummed in response.

“Dream woke up and chose being a simp, chat” Quackity laughed. “I sincerely apologize for hurting your George.”

Dream quickly looked at his second monitor where he had George’s stream displayed. The boy wasn’t smiling or laughing. Dream knew he was uncomfortable. Could it be that he had enough of all these jokes?

Neither Dream nor George responded to Quackity and the stream continued as nothing happened. The voice channel was still wilding, everyone too busy to notice that both Dream and George went silent. Dream wanted to say something, anything, and ask George what’s happened, because there obviously was something wrong. He acted different than usual and who was Dream not to notice that.

“Where are you, Georgie?” Quackity asked, running around and searching for George. “Georgie, come here,” he wanted to make his voice sound fondly, but instead it came out being ridiculous.

“He’s probably on the crafting table with Dream” Karl joked and the whole voice channel wheezed again.

Dream frowned. He usually would’ve laughed but this time he just let it slip by.

“I’m sorry guys, I’ve got to go,” George said suddenly to the stream, muted on the voice channel. Dream noticed how the screen turned black and a moment later he heard as someone was running down the stairs, every footstep echoing in his room. He assumed it was George.

“Um, guys, give me a second, please,” Dream said to his own stream, then he muted himself, aware that chat is probably getting completely wild and suspicious. They sure connected the dots.

He took his headset off and then he emerged from his room. When he appeared in the hall, he saw that the light in the bathroom was on.

“George?” he knocked on the door, but when he got no response, he repeated a little louder “George? Are you there? Is everything okay?”

“Go away, Dream” George shouted, his voice noticeably shaky.

“I won’t go away” Dream responded, trying to stay calm but deep inside he was worried as hell. “Can I come in?”

Once again there was complete silence and then a weird but muffled noise. Dream knew George’s not okay and he didn’t want to leave him alone so he opened the door and stepped in. At that moment the weird noise repeated, turning out to be the sound of throwing up.

The view was confusing at first. George was sitting on the floor next to the toilet, his shoulders were shaking and his eyes glassy from tears. Dream tried to comprehend what happened, but he didn't get a chance to ask about it yet.

“Dream,” George was visibly frustrated. “Go the fuck away, you don’t want to see me like this.”

In fact, George looked like a complete mess. He was a complete mess. He felt really bad in general; both physically and mentally.

“Oh, come on, stop saying bullshit. You know I'm always here for you” Dream rolled his eyes, kneeling right next to his friend and placing a hand on his shoulder. “Tell me what happened, George.”

“Nothing happened,” George responded, sadness and frustration mixed in his voice. “I got sick, that’s it.”

“Don’t lie to me, George” Dream was serious now, worried about his friend. “Why are you crying? What is going on?”

And with these final questions, Dream caused chaos.

“I don’t know Dream!” George screamed, covering his face with his hands. “Everything’s just so fucked up I can’t take it anymore! I feel like everything went already too far! I messed things up! I am messed up! I should’ve known it’s going to turn out this way,” he was sobbing and screaming at the same time. “Now it’s just fucking overwhelming, I don’t know how to handle it. This shit just hurts like hell, especially that you’re probably so, so disappointed in me and everything’s gonna change now and-”

Dream’s eyes widened. What the hell?

“George, calm down, please,” he said looking straight into his eyes. “What are you even talking about?”

“About you and me!” he yelled again, but then he took a deep breath and added more quietly. “About us, Dream.”

Dream’s heart sank. What could he possibly mean by that?

“What do you mean, George?” he asked calmly, even though his heartbeat rapidly sped up.

“I mean that all these jokes went too far, Dream. We both went too far and we both should’ve known where this will lead us to,” he exhaled shakily. “You’re my best friend, Dream and I don’t want to ruin our friendship but I can’t hide it anymore and I need to tell you that-”

Dream opened his mouth to say something but no words came out of it. He was confused, not sure what he’s going to hear next.

“What do you need to tell me?” Dream was now staring right through George’s soul.

“I like you,” he finished. „More than just a friend,” he looked down, fidgeting with his fingers.

Dream froze. He wanted to laugh and cry and scream and dance out of happiness. He finally heard the words he always wanted to hear coming out of George’s mouth.

“And that’s why we’re sitting in our bathroom in the middle of the night while you’re throwing up out of stress and screaming your lungs out?” Dream asked, a smirk appeared on his face.

Now George was the confused one.

“What?” he finally looked up at dream. “I am being serious, Dream”

“Well, so am I,” Dream got up suddenly, giving George a hand to stand up to. When he did, Dream continued, “I’ve been in love with you for almost a year now, George. Shit. I’ve always wanted to finally confess, but in my head, it looked way more romantic.”

At that moment George’s brain probably lagged for a second, because he was just standing there, absolutely dumbfounded. dream decided to repeat himself, “I like you too, george” he assured, now cupping George’s cheek to show that he really meant it.

“You’re fucking lying” George laughed, lost and unsure what’s going to happen next.

“No, I’m serious” he wiped George’s tears with his thumb. “And believe me, there’s no need to be stressed about it anymore, because I’m here and I’ll be yours if you want me to be.”

And then they collided, falling into each other’s arms like their lives depended on it. George was crying and laughing at the same time, probably on the verge of some kind of emotional combustion. Was it even possible to feel so many things at the same time?

After something that felt like a couple of sunny days, they finally let go of each other, George coming up with a realization, “We should go back to the stream,” he said, even though he was currently too tired and too emotionally unstable to actually come back and sit in front of his computer to entertain people.

“Fuck the stream,” Dream replied fondly. “You need to get some sleep, George. It’s time for you to rest and let your brain process stuff,” he was almost whispering, which made George a little bit calmer. He felt safe now. “Go to bed, you'll be sleeping with me tonight, okay?”

George nodded.

“Just give me a second, I need to take a quick shower,” he said, rubbing his eyes.

“Of course,” Dream responded, turning around to leave the bathroom. “I’ll explain everything to the chat and end the stream.”

When Dream was about to leave the bathroom, he heard George’s quiet voice from behind, “Thank you, Dream” he admitted, sincerity noticeable in his voice. “You don’t even know how much you mean to me,” he confessed, smiling feebly.

There was something about George’s current presence that made Dream’s heart melt. He was already half-asleep, his face slightly covered in pink blush, hair messy and sticking out in all directions. Dream thought it was adorable.

“I am so lucky to have you, Georgie,” Dream responded with a wide smile, glad that George has started expressing his feelings at last.

Having let George take his time in the bathroom, Dream begrudgingly went to his room. He quickly ran a hand through his hair and approached his desk, forming a proper explanation in his head.

“Hey guys, I’m sorry it took so long,” Dream unmuted himself and put his headset on again. “George doesn’t feel well right now and he needs to rest a little bit, but don't worry, he’ll be alright eventually. I’m sorry, it’s the end of the stream for today, I love you guys so much. Bye,” he said and then he finally ended the stream. Before heading to sit on the bed, he quickly grabbed his phone and opened Twitter to check how crazy people had gone about this whole situation and as expected, Dream’s timeline was flooded with tweets full of confusion and concern.

“Guys, I might be wrong but I feel like this time it was something serious. I hope George’s gonna be okay,” Dream was reading some of the things that were posted within last few minutes.

“Damn, Dream reacted so quickly, he knows George too well, he sensed something was wrong,” he was scrolling mindlessly through his feed.

At that moment George appeared in the room, wearing nothing but his underwear and an oversized hoodie Dream gave him a couple of days ago. Dream suddenly put his phone down, not being able to say a single word. He felt an electric current paralyzing all of his nerves. It was irresistible for him not to stare.

“What?” George started, noticing Dream’s gaze all over his body. “Is there something wrong?”

“Quite the opposite,” Dream admitted. “You look so unbelievably cute like this.”

George only scoffed in response, visibly flustered.

“Hey, come here,” Dream tilted his head and looked down, giving George a sign that he should sit on his lap.

George would’ve been hesitant if he wasn’t totally exhausted, but now he didn’t really care about anything else than finally getting comfortable. And Dream was the one who made him feel safe.

When George approached Dream and sat on his lap, it was the closest they both had ever been to each other. It seemed like only at that moment they both realized what had actually happened just a couple of minutes ago. Perhaps everything they've already gone through was meant to lead them to this specific situation, no matter how stupid it might've been. Theoretically, their story was never expected to turn out like this. Despite the flirting and teasing they had drawn an invisible line that was never supposed to be crossed. Somehow their friendship shifted into something 'a little more': a little more endearing, a little more intimate, a little more private. And that, certainly, wasn't a part of the plan. It came out of the blue and started blooming – slowly and leisurely, the bond between them getting stronger and deeper every day.

Now, when Dream was looking right into George's beautiful brown eyes, he could tell that maybe it somehow has always been a part of the plan that they were unaware of thus far.

“Dream...” George trailed off, now staring at dream’s face. “What are we?” that was the only question he could think of.

“And what do you want us to be, George?” Dream asked, smiling weakly at him.

George remained silent, his gaze focusing alternately both on Dream's eyes and lips. He felt like he was meeting his fate.

“Because I want us to be like day and night," Dream whispered. “Like the sun and the moon, like the sky and the sea when they meet at the horizon,” he slowly and delicately grabbed George’s waist. “I’d like us to be together, would you like that too?"

Their faces were only inches apart.

“I’d like that,” George admitted.

“How much on a scale from one to ten?” Dream asked friskily.

“You're so stupid,” George scoffed, rolling his eyes playfully. “You’re an idiot and I hate you.”

“Oh, come on now, baby,” Dream let the pet name slip out of his mouth. It felt like he already used it dozens of times. So natural. So right.

George’s cheeks suddenly got splotched with a vibrant shade of pink. His typical reaction to any affectionate stuff.

„Stop,” George giggled, avoiding the eye contact.

Then Dream’s hand grabbed George’s chin and within a moment their lips intertwined in a slow and soft kiss. Everything got frozen in time – it was now them and them only.

“I’m so lucky to have you,” Dream confessed spontaneously.

“You’ve said that already, haven’t you?” George pointed out.

“I have,” Dream smiled. “But I’ll be saying that till the end of my days so you heart won’t forget to whom it belongs to.”
