Work Text:
I wake up alone in a dark room, the only light coming from a tiny open window as the sun rises over a snowy sky. I slowly climb out of bed and walk over to the mirror and stare at my reflection. I see two horns poking out of my ruffled, messed up brown hair, still wearing my snowchester uniform since I hadn’t thought about bringing any other clothes to wear, oh well. I stand tall, trying to make up for my short stature. Stand strong and walk tall. You’ve prepared for this long enough.
<>
I slowly walk out the front door, taking in the fresh air before I begin my mission. It’s only been about a week since I’d let Jack in on my plan for Snowchester, but he hasn’t been around much since, so I mainly completed the entire project on my own. He’s probably just been busy, moving into Snowchester and all that. I assure myself. Jack hasn’t given me any reason to not trust him, so it should be fine, right?
<>
It takes 5 knocks, but Jack finally opens the door, dressed up in his Snowchester suit . “Morning Tubbo!” Jack exclaims in a cheery voice. “Ready to make history today?”
“I’ve been ready for weeks, Jack Manifold, weeks.” I take my keycard out of my pocket “You’ve got your keycard on you, right?
Jack smiles and waves his in the air “Jack Manifold always comes prepared! You really think this’ll work Tubbo?”
“Well I guess we’re about to find out, Let’s go to the cellar, shall we?”
I hop off the porch and lead the way to the cellar with the iron doors. Jack follows behind me, snapping his fingers as he steps. He seems nervous about something, but I don’t give much thought to it. Hell, I’m as nervous as ever myself. We make the turn leading up to the cellar when I hear something snap on my left. I whirl around and see a girl with a dark cloak covering a shock of pink hair. “..Niki?”
Her eyes widened “Hello Tubbo!” Niki says with almost a little too much energy “I just wanted to pay you a visit and say hi! How are you?”
“I didn’t even realize you knew about Snowchester.” I say with a nervous laugh “Well this is a pleasant surprise!”
“What’re you and Jack up to?” She asks, looking behind my shoulder, staring Jack in the eyes
“Oh! Um, confidential business, sorry you caught us at a bad time, Niki. Perhaps we can catch up another time?”
“Oh of course! Goodluck with whatever you’re doing, I’ll just be on my way.”
“Great seeing ya! Also, make sure you stick to the paths! There could be a gaping hole in the middle of the floor, you never know”
<>
I wait a few minutes after she leaves to then begin unlocking the doors. I punch in the code to the padlock and Jack heaves the door open. Inside is a massive windowless room made of stone, lit up with torches. Inside the cellar there is a massive table and 3 large objects, much bigger than me. The objects had a pointed top and propellers on the bottom, with a yellow and black hazard symbol encasing the top. The nukes are still there, as menacing as ever before. “Hey Jack, give me a hand will ya? I’ll carry the top and you take the bottom”
Miraculously, we managed to hoist the nuke out of it’s holster and carry it carefully out of the room to the outskirts of Snkwhcester right by its stone walls. The pathway leading to where the nukes need to be placed is only a few meters away. “Hey Tubbo” Jack breaks the silence “I know you put lots of effort into this and, and it’s gonna turn out great, I’m sure of it”
I smile “I hope you’re right, Jack. Ready to blow some shit up?”
We place the nuke into the holder for it’s launch and run back to our respective sides of the stone wall, right next to where we’ll be placing the key cards for the nuke to launch.
“On my mark, Jack Manifold,” I shout over the wind “stand on your block and insert your keycard!”
“...3!”
“...2!”
“...1! Insert your keycard!”
I slam my keycard into the reader. I hear a loud roar, the ground shakes, and I see a thin object, similar to an arrow, soar high over the sky and fly over the trees on the other side of the lake. “HOLY SHIT!” Jack runs over to my end of the wall
Holy crap.
It launched.
I can barely contain my excitement “JACK!! IT WORKED!! IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!” I scream with glee, sprinting over to the staircase “We’ve got to come see this for ourselves, come on!”
I practically pull Jack manifold down the stairs and we run to the tunnel, running at hyper speed to the end. The one thought being on my mind was making sure that the nuke had hit its final destination. The tunnel ends and I scurry up the ladder with Jack following behind me. I poke my head out of the hole, expecting there to be a bright light, instead there’s something else blinding my eyes.

Thick clouds of smoke hover over the sky, making it impossible to see just a few feet ahead. Well, it definitely landed here I cough trying my best not to inhale the fumes. I looked down at the floor as I paced through the smoke, one small misstep could be it for me . Slowly, I make up my way to the edge of the crater and look down.
Holy. Crap.
There was a massive crater that had wiped out the hundreds, if not thousands, of trees that had once stood. There was so much smoke I could barely see past the first couple of feet, but I would bet with the size of the holy it probably had gone down to close to bedrock If Dream had one of these, he probably would’ve managed to blow up Lmanberg in a second, not even- The sound of voices snaps me out of my thoughts. One of the voices being female, the other, male. The male voice sounded incredibly familiar-
Tommy?
<>
No. No, it can’t be him, surely not. He doesn’t even know about the nukes, why would he be in the woods? He’s with Sam Nook, safe and far away.
Before I can convince myself, I see him. Tall, lanky, fluffy blonde hair, dull blue eyes. Surely not
I watch him peer over the edge of the crater, just one misstep from falling to his death
Falling
Logstedshire
Death
The Pillar
Suddenly, it was December 16th all over again. I remember seeing that pillar for the first time. I had come to Logstedshire, just to see it reduced to rubble. I remembered checking for his tent, gone without a trace. All that was left was that pillar. So high up, it scraped the clouds, The rain pounded on the ground. I like to think the reasons why it chose to rain that day was because the skyscraper had ripped the clouds apart. I couldn’t tell what were tears, or what was rain, because I thought I had been too late to save my best friend. I had let him down, let him fall to his doom because I hadn’t been there to protect him.
I was too late to save him from falling the last time.
<>
I ran again to the edge of the pillar, fullspeed to where Tommy stood, practically knocking him and myself over as I pushed him away from the edge “Tommy are you out of your mind?!” I cry, breathless “What were you thinking standing next to the edge? You can’t just be doing things like that it’s dangerous.”
“Woah, Tubbo I’m perfectly fine!” Tommy says with a grin “slow your roll big man, I’m being careful enough already.”
“I don’t want to lose you again.” I said softly “It was bad enough thinking that I had caused you to die in exile, I don’t want to be the cause of your death all because of this stupid crater.”
“I....Hold on, you did this?”
“Yeah, pretty cool, huh?”
“How the hell did you cause a huge crater to appear in the middle of the woods?”
I explained to Tommy the reason why I’d been so busy for those past couple of weeks was because I was constructing the nukes, nukes so powerful they could make craters the size of a small country.
“Well done Tubbo!” Tommy claps me on the shoulder “How come you didn’t ask me to help? You know I love these kinds of things!”
Because I finally wanted to do something on my own and not be in your shadow “I, I don’t know to be honest, I just wanted to keep it in between those who live in Snowchester. But hey, now you do know!”
“Well it’s sick either way, I’m real proud of you this seems like it took you a good while.”
I beamed “Oh it’s nothing. But Tommy, what’re you doing here? I thought you were getting stuff for Sam?”
“Y’know I’m wondering the same thing. Maybe you should ask Niki over here” He points over to the girl in the dark hood hidden by the smoke.
“You think I knew there was going to be a nuke shooting down from the sky?” Niki questions It’s all just a huge coincidence that this happened! Besides, you’re the one who wanted spruce logs, I was just showing you where I normally get mine!”
“Niki no need to be harsh, I’m just really glad that you’re both safe, if you’d come any sooner this would be a much grimmer situation.” I say.
Thank god Tommy didn’t get here sooner.
“What’s with all of the voices?” Jack coughs, emerging from the smoke
“Ay Jack, long time no see!” Tommy shouts clapping him on the back
“Tommy…? What are you doing here?” He says glancing over a Niki
“Tommy and I were just collecting spruce! Luckily we got here when we did, any minute sooner and we would’ve been goners.” Niki says
“Whatever. Anyways, Tubbo, what’s next on the agenda for the nukes? Who’s our next target?”
“Actually,” I start to say “I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m going to decommission the rest of the nukes for now.”
“What?” Tommy exclaims “But you spent so long on this! With these weapons we could take down anyone on the server!”
“Or die trying? I nearly just lost you again because of these damn things.”
“But Tubbo,” Jack said “I thought you wanted to protect Snowchester?”
“I mean, it’s not like they’re gone forever. I just want to have a little break, which is why I created Snowchester in the first place, so I could have a break from the madness. These nukes are really destructive, more so than we thought, and if we’re not careful a lot of people could get hurt, hell we thought nobody was going to be around and nearly two people died!”
“Yeah, I guess I see you’re point” Jack exhales
“Right now is definitely not the time to have a nuclear war, and for what? We don’t even have anything to fight for it's pointless. Throwing ourselves into war after war, we don’t need to do that. What we do need to do is just take care of the citizens of Snowchester and move back onto this project when the time is right.”
“Y’know that’s not a terrible idea, coming from you” Tommy snickers
“Like a wise person once said.” I glance over at Tommy “People are above the government.”
