Summary
It is Season 5.
Joss Whedon has created a high-stakes plot in which Buffy and the Scoobies face a GOD.
Not a demon, an actual god. This is not a the Standard Villain-Of-The-Week badguy. It's not even a Villain-Of-The-Season badguy. This badguy might fall at the end of the season - but it MIGHT fall at the end of the SHOW.
The only solution to this god-problem, as far as the Scoobies know, is to sacrifice Dawn to save the whole world. Since this is not an option, they are TRYING to figure out something else.
They are prepared to go down fighting. *All* of them.
The audience waits with bated breath to see if they really will, all of them, die.
Because rumor has it that the season finale might NOT be the end of the season, it MIGHT be the end of the show. The Network (the WB if you have forgotten) may very well be ready to pull the plug.
This story was *always* going to be canon-compliant.
(But - spoiler alert - my betareader on LiveJournal asked for a happy ending. And, for that reason, this story WILL stop being canon-compliant right up until the moment that it isn't.)
