Chapter 1: A whole new world.

Chapter Text

It was Shoyo Hinata’s eleventh birthday when he received a letter. A letter stating he had been invited to attend Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizadry.

Of course his parents thought this was some sort of prank by the neighbourhood kids. Magic doesn’t exist, much to Shoyo’s dismay.

Shoyo was described to have a very strong imagination as a child. He would talk to creatures that weren’t there, more so after his grandma had passed on. Even at school people thought he was odd, some students claimed a volleyball blew up in his hands. Although teachers denied those claims.

Despite everything, Shoyo was very unique. His parents knew that.

Shoyo was very pleased when he received a letter claiming he had magical powers. He waved it around excitedly and started packing bags ready to go to this new school on September 2nd.

His parents quickly disposed of the letter, they didn’t want to dull their child’s imagination, but they couldn’t allow this behaviour to continue.

Just as they were about to lecture him, the doorbell rung.

“Hello?” His mother cooed.

A strange woman dressed in robes stood at the door. She had a bitter face, although that just seemed to be her resting face.

“Hello Miss Hinata I am professor McGonagall, Headmistress at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizadry. I don’t usually do home appearances, but it seems necessary.”

Her hands were surprisingly cold as they made acquaintances. His mother also noted she was reasonably old.

Despite being skeptical and wary of this strange old woman she allowed her inside. They sat at the dining table whilst his father excused Natsu.

Once Natsu was occupied in the living room they began their conversation.

“Shoyo Hinata I believe.” McGonagall also shook his hand. Shoyo had a bright smile on his face at her witchy appearance. His parents still weren’t convinced, his father made a snarky comment by saying “what is this, Halloween?”

However her facial expression never changed, she started asking questions and remaining friendly despite the remarks.

“Tell me, Miss Hinata. Has you son ever been subject to strange happenings? Things that could be described as odd or out of the ordinary?”

Immediately her mind wandered to all those times his friends had called him strange, how sometimes he would talk to nothing, the exploding volleyball. Yes, he had. McGonagall didn’t need an answer, their faces said it all.

An owl flew in and perched on the table, dropping another one of those letters in Shoyo’s hands.

“Wow thank-you birdy!” Shoyo went to pet the bird.

“Be careful.” McGonagall spoke, but it was too late.

“Ouch!” Shoyo flinched as the bird nipped his finger.

“It bites.” The elderly woman sighed turning to his parents.

“You aren’t the first muggles I’ve had to convince, so I’ll just get straight to the point.”

She pulled out what looked like a stick, but at closer inspection it was in fact a wand. The woman flicked it around and the glass cup of orange juice morphed into a glass bird.

Shoyo’s parents were startled, although Shoyo himself was amazed and asked how to do it.

She lent him a small smile, the first smile they had seen from her.

“Your child will be attending this school, whether you like it or not. Sending him would be in your best interest.”

A ticket presented itself in front of the family

Platform 9 and 3/4.

“Yes you’re probably thinking such a platform doesn’t exist. With this ticket your child should be able to pass through the wall between platforms 9 and 10 on Monday 2nd of September before 11am. Arrive promptly or you will miss your train.”

Pass through walls? Shoyo’s parents were dumbfounded. However they certainly did believe the woman now. No simple illusion would be able to turn a glass into a bird. She even had the curtesy to turn it back, the orange juice still in the cup.

“Wow!” Shoyo exclaimed. “I’m so excited! Mum please let me go. Please, please, please!”

After explaining a few more details about how he would acquire the correct equipment and how much it would cost, the family agreed.

On Saturday, two days before Shoyo’s departure they would be transported to the Leaky cauldron and escorted to Diagon alley. They were provided with a map.

The journey was odd, to say the least. Shoyo’s ticket played a vital role in guiding the family to their destination.

An abnormally tall man with a beard tapped five bricks on a wall with his wand. The wall magically parted allowing them inside, a whole new world was presented to them. A world they didn’t know existed until now.

They were instructed to arrive back at seven pm sharp, in order to return to the muggle world.

“Let’s go here! I wanna get my wand!” Shoyo dragged his mum who ushered him to calm down.

“Honey, I think your uniform is more important.”

The uniform store was rather large and expensive. Although Shoyo just thought it was boring. His mother on the other hand took a liking to the uniforms. She was upset that Shoyo couldn’t have any of the coloured ones yet as he hadn’t been sorted into a house.

The shop keeper informed him that the moment he got sorted, his robes would transform into the colours of his house. Shoyo’s eyes lit up at every sight or mention of magic.

“Three Sets of Plain black robes, One Plain Pointed hat, One Pair of Protective gloves, One Winter cloak and Make sure to have name tags.”

His mother read over the list and rummaged through her shopping bag for the fifth time.

“Stop stressing, I’m sure he’s got everything.” His father leant her a smile. This was all so new to the family, especially Natsu, who they kept a close eye on. She was utterly fascinated and jealous that her brother got to enjoy magic. Shoyo reminded her that maybe she would be able to attend this school in a few years, and cast her own magic spells.

The book store was the next place the needed to attend. Luckily they were provided with a trolly, because this stuff would be impossible to carry otherwise.

“I think this map is wrong, where’s the wand store?” Shoyo turned the map various directions before they decided on asking someone.

“Excuse me sir.” The gray haired male turned around with a smile.

“How may I help you?” He asked in a warm tone.

“Sorry, we have a map but, we were just struggling to find this shop.” Shoyo’s mother pointed at the store she was talking about.

“Ah, a lot of muggles like yourselves have this problem first time. Don’t worry about it. Walk straight up and take a left, third shop down.” He gave them another smile before glancing at the excited Shoyo.

“Come on mum!”

He skipped off down the street, Natsu following close behind.

The family entered the shop. It was dimly lit and warm. A friendly man greeted them, steeping down off his ladder.

He roamed around his shelves for a minute. There must be thousands of wands up there, Shoyo thought.

The first wand he was told to wave exploded a lamp, which the store owner fixed with a simple spell. So he tried another wand, looking deep into Shoyo’s eyes as he presented it too him.

When he waved it, it revealed a golden aura surrounding him, a slight breeze lifting his hair. That was the one, the man smiled. Natsu looked just as excited, she wanted one for herself.

“Dragon heartstring core and Redwood. It’s very flexible and six inches, that’s the shortest wand length.” The man gave him a chuckle, obviously referring to his height.

“Your wand is very loyal and powerful, take good care of it.” He packed it into a secure box and handed it to the boy, he wore a huge smile on his face as he wandered out of the shop.

Throughout the day they bought more and more, even providing Shoyo with two pets. A Barn owl and a toad, only because he insisted. The owl was much more friendly than Miss McGonagalls.

Throughout the weekend Shoyo hardly got a wink of sleep. He was much too excited about discovering the secrets of this new world.

He had already read through some of his exercise books, already desperate to try out new spells. However he was informed that performing magic outside of Hogwarts whilst he was underage was infact illegal and would result in expulsion. So he managed to refrain, somehow.

When Monday morning rolled around Shoyo was already packed up and ready to get going. Six am was an early start to his day, usually his parents have would have to pester him to get up in the morning, but not today.

Finally, he would get to be with other witches and wizards.
